Chapter 95: An Unexpected Discovery!
Chu Yu’s expression was somewhat uneasy. He was only at the third tier himself. He wasn’t certain what level of power Du Wei possessed. Throughout their journey, Du Wei had told him that the Emperor had more important tasks for them to accomplish. The group consisted of thirty people, but only seven were Du Wei’s subordinates; the rest were disciples of the Tianyuan Sect, assigned at random.
Now, only nine of them were still alive!
“Who are you, really? Why did you conceal your strength within the Tianyuan Sect? What is the true nature of the important task the Emperor has entrusted to us?” Chu Yu asked in a low voice.
“My concealment in the Tianyuan Sect was also at the Emperor’s command. This time, the Emperor ordered us to enter Cloud-Weaving Mountain with you for a single purpose: to seek the Seal of Mountains and Rivers.”
“The Seal of Mountains and Rivers? What is that?” Chu Yu had never heard of it.
“You need not know what it is. Chu Yu, you should understand how much the Emperor values you.”
Chu Yu was greatly encouraged; this was the recognition he had long dreamed of.
“I, Chu Yu, will serve the Emperor loyally until my last breath!”
...
Ji Yin rested for a while, then continued descending the cliff. Her stomach had begun to growl. She had brought everything she needed—except food.
The Scarlet Flame Mink was also looking listless, sitting atop a stone and offering Ji Yin a forlorn little silhouette.
“Let’s look for a water source. You know how to catch fish, don’t you?”
The mink responded with a sharp squeak.
Not only could it catch fish—this was its specialty!
“Let’s go!”
Ji Yin stood and continued forward.
The Scarlet Flame Mink suddenly squeaked, pointing ahead.
Ji Yin hurried over and discovered a cave. Inside, it was pitch black, and she dared not enter recklessly.
“Little Demon, is there any danger?”
“I sense nothing.”
Only then did Ji Yin step inside. The magic talisman in her hand shot up into the air, igniting a small flame that illuminated the surroundings.
There was a fire pit inside the cave!
Someone had been here!
Could it be Second Brother and Third Brother?
“Is anyone here? Hello?” Ji Yin called out, but the only answer was her own echo.
The Scarlet Flame Mink darted around and found a bundle in a corner.
“Squeak, squeak!”
Ji Yin walked over and opened the bundle. “It’s Third Brother’s pack!” She immediately recognized the items within.
“Third Brother!” Ji Yin ran outside and called loudly into the empty valley, “Third Brother!”
...
“Great Demon, don’t worry too much. The formation keeps shifting—shouting until your voice breaks won’t help. At least we can be certain he’s not in mortal danger, and he’s still alive and well,” the Magic Cauldron gently comforted her.
Ji Yin clutched the bundle tightly.
Just as Little Demon had said, the formation constantly changed; unless one reached its heart, once separated, it was nearly impossible to meet again.
The Scarlet Flame Mink squeaked at the bundle in Ji Yin’s hands.
Knowing there were some provisions inside, Ji Yin took them out and handed them to the mink.
She returned to the fire pit, rekindled the unfinished firewood, and sat beside the flames for warmth.
The Scarlet Flame Mink obediently nestled at her feet, its dark eyes gazing up at her.
“At least I still have you with me,” Ji Yin said, raising her hand to stroke the mink’s head.
The mink immediately nuzzled Ji Yin’s hand.
“I wonder how Young Master Xuanyuan is faring,” the Magic Cauldron’s voice sounded again.
“Of all those who entered the mountain with us, he’s the one I worry about least.”
“You’re so unconcerned—what’s wrong with showing a little care?”
“Little Demon, have I neglected something before?”
