Chapter 58: Don’t Pretend to Be Superior, Pretending Brings Retribution 4
Everyone's gaze turned toward Chu Yu, some with confusion, some with suspicion, and others with disappointment.
Chu Yu wanted to explain, but he did not know how to begin. What use was an explanation, when the Thunder Talisman had failed to harm Ji Yin?
Faced with their stares, his pride felt as if it had been mercilessly trampled into the dirt. A sense of utter humiliation overwhelmed him, just as it had when Ji Yin had injured him before—he had felt just as disgraced then.
“Now, it’s my turn,” Ji Yin said with a smile, addressing Chu Yu. Then she looked around and spoke to the crowd, “Everyone, please step back, lest you be affected.”
Although Chu Yu had failed, no one believed this messy talisman drawn by Ji Yin would be of any effect.
Despite Ji Yin’s warning, they remained where they were, unmoved and without the slightest sense of danger.
Ji Yin held the talisman between her fingers and sent it flying into the air. Suddenly, the clear sky flashed with lightning! The bolt struck the talisman, illuminating the heavens with dazzling brilliance.
The bizarre spectacle held everyone captive, their eyes wide and unblinking.
All at once, those nearest Chu Yu began to feel tingling and prickling sensations on their bodies. Chu Yu felt it even more intensely; it was as if his body was seized by some force, leaving him unable to move.
Before their eyes, this extraordinary scene unfolded.
Those beside Chu Yu began to jerk and twitch mechanically, dancing like devils possessed. As they shook, smoke rose from their hair, and their once pristine white garments were scorched black as if by fire.
The situation spun out of control.
In midair, the talisman seemed to channel the power of heavenly thunder. Although the people had been charred, the seemingly frail talisman had not yet turned to ash.
Ji Yin watched the strange dance with leisurely delight, then clapped her hands in rhythm. “Excellent, excellent! Wonderful dancing! Ah, Young Master Chu, you’re shaking right in time, and your hips are twisting with flair.”
Those untouched quickly retreated ten steps, the scene both laughable and terrifying.
At last, the talisman was consumed, and the lightning vanished from the sky.
On the ground, those struck by the thunder lay limp, their faces blackened as if they had been mining coal. Some had their clothing burned to tatters, barely covered.
Chu Yu was in the worst state: his mouth hung open in a shocked O, white smoke pouring out, his hair scorched and tangled like a bird’s nest. His trousers were completely burnt away, though thankfully his undergarments remained, exposing his legs in an undignified manner.
To think, just moments ago, he had been forced by lightning to dance that devilish jig—what a sight it had been.
Chu Yu’s mind was blank from the shock, and he lay on the ground, unable to muster the strength to rise.
“Did everyone see?” Ji Yin smiled at the crowd. “That talisman I drew moments ago was the true Thunder Talisman.” She did not reveal the truth—that it was a demon talisman.
When the demon talisman appears, even the spirits howl!
Ji Yin’s soul power was not yet sufficient to unleash the talisman’s full might.
Yet, on her first attempt at drawing a talisman here, she had given Chu Yu a taste of its power. Her hard-earned soul energy had not been wasted.
Now, not a single person doubted Ji Yin’s words.
For they had witnessed, with their own eyes, the strength of the talisman in her hands!
Before this, everyone’s impression of Ji Yin had been that of a decadent wastrel—idle and aimless, a useless awakening. But today, with a single talisman, Ji Yin had utterly transformed their view of her.
