Chapter 86: What Position Would You Like to Try?
At the moment she sealed the Demon Cauldron, she felt a pang of guilt. Tonight, she was to stay in Xuanyuan Ji’s tent. Yet there was only this simple cot—how was she supposed to sleep? Ji Yin was still agonizing over the issue when Xuanyuan Ji sat down on the narrow bed and began to take off his shoes.
She immediately looked around, searching for another place to sleep. After scanning the tent, she found no suitable spot. Xuanyuan Ji was already lying down, fully clothed, with enough room for another person beside him.
“Aren’t you coming to rest? Or do you want me to toss you into your father’s tent, or perhaps your brothers’?” Xuanyuan Ji’s voice was soft but thick with threat.
Ji Yin hurried over and lay down next to him. If Xuanyuan Ji didn’t care, why should she? Sharing a bed was no big deal! It wasn’t as Little Demon claimed—she wasn’t losing out at all. If she didn’t sleep here, it would be a waste!
A barely discernible smile flickered at the corner of Xuanyuan Ji’s lips.
Ji Yin, however, ground her small silver teeth in secret. She’d been threatened by Xuanyuan Ji again and again, and she had no way to retaliate. It was truly intolerable! When she regained her former strength, she would definitely have a proper fight with him!
Before long, the steady sound of breathing beside him told Xuanyuan Ji that she’d already slipped into sleep. The day’s journey had drained her, and she was still injured; she must have been exhausted.
Xuanyuan Ji turned gently, propping himself up to watch the small figure beside him. The air at the foot of the mountain was even colder than outside, especially after nightfall. The little thing instinctively nestled closer into his arms, filling the space around his chest.
A fullness settled in Xuanyuan Ji’s heart as well—a sensation he’d never known before. He’d never held anything there, and now, it was filled by this little one.
From this moment on, nothing else would ever fit. His heart had room for only her.
She wore at her waist the Phoenix Feather he had given her. He raised his hand and grasped it, pouring a surge of strong soul force into its core.
The night was still long...
Never before had Xuanyuan Ji looked forward to the night like this—hoping it would stretch on and on.
…
A commotion outside roused Ji Yin from sleep. Xuanyuan Ji was already awake, but the little thing had her leg draped over him, her head resting on his arm, clutching him tightly. Not wanting to wake her, he had remained still.
Ji Yin quickly became aware of her position and frowned. What was going on? When had she clung to Xuanyuan Ji so tightly? Had he noticed anything?
She quietly lifted her head to look at him—he still seemed asleep. Good, good!
Ever so gently, she began to slide her leg off him, then slowly raised her body…
A little lighter, a little slower...
Suddenly, her eyes met Xuanyuan Ji’s—he was looking right at her!
In this position, she looked as though she’d been caught in some compromising act!
“Don’t get the wrong idea! I just got a bit numb and wanted to change position, that’s all!” Ji Yin explained at once.
“What position did you want to change to?” Xuanyuan Ji asked softly.
Ji Yin choked—her cheeks surely flushed red! Numb, my foot! She hadn’t done anything, so why was she so flustered?
She rolled out of bed and hurriedly put on her clothes. Oh, how she longed to spar with Xuanyuan Ji right now!
Suddenly, she felt a renewed surge of soul force within the Phoenix Feather. Gripping it, she felt all her turbulent emotions settle.
It seemed Xuanyuan Ji understood more than she had thought.
At the very least, he knew that the soul force within the Phoenix Feather was meant for her.
And he was still willing to infuse his own soul force into it again.
This was the power she had coveted for so long!
