Ji Yin immediately felt utterly out of place; with only a thin layer of fabric between them, the heat from his palm seemed to burn right through her. She was wearing nothing but this one piece of clothing! That empty, vulnerable sensation was indescribably intoxicating.

Yet she had no choice in the matter. Had Xuan Yuanji just agreed to let her stay? Just to be sure, Ji Yin asked again, “You’re agreeing to let me stay?”

“For tonight, you’ll sleep in my tent. Tomorrow at first light, you’ll accompany me into the mountains. You’re not to leave my sight. Can you do that?”

“I can!” Ji Yin nodded at once.

Xuan Yuanji picked her up, vanishing into the trees.

Back in the tent, he set her on a snow-white rabbit-fur blanket. To experience such comfort in a place like this was almost unimaginable.

But she still needed to treat her wounds, and the tent’s space was so limited. She couldn’t possibly apply medicine in front of Xuan Yuanji, could she?

He placed a bottle of medicine in front of her. “Use this. I’ll step out for a moment and be back soon.”

“All right,” Ji Yin replied obediently.

As Xuan Yuanji left the tent, he casually set a barrier.

Wuyan happened to walk by just then and was surprised to see his master emerging from the tent. “Young Master, where have you been? The eldest young master came looking for you, but you weren’t inside.”

Without answering, Xuan Yuanji strode toward Ji Shaofeng’s tent.

Ji Yin opened the medicine, inhaling its faintly cool fragrance. Its efficacy was surely far superior to what she’d brought herself. She poured some into her palm and spread it over her wounds. Instantly, a wave of coolness soothed her pain, and she lay back against the soft rug with a sigh of relief.

Suddenly, she remembered: her bundle was still strapped to her horse’s back. When Xuan Yuanji had carried her off, she hadn’t had a chance to retrieve it. Both her changes of clothes were inside.

She hurried to the tent entrance, intending to lift the flap, but an invisible force blocked her. A barrier?

Xuan Yuanji had actually set a barrier around the tent.

Frustrated, she returned inside. What was she to do? Was she to spend the whole night like this, with nothing on beneath her clothes?

Just then, Xuan Yuanji returned, Wuyan following behind him.

Outside the tent, Xuan Yuanji suddenly halted. “You needn’t attend me inside tonight.”

“But, Young Master, I—”

Wuyan tried to follow, but was stopped by an unseen force and dared not take another step.

Xuan Yuanji lifted the tent flap and entered, looking at Ji Yin. “Did you finish applying the medicine?”

“Yes,” Ji Yin nodded.

Suddenly, a small creature darted in, holding her bundle aloft and handed it to Xuan Yuanji.

He brought the bundle to Ji Yin. “I sent the Crimson Flame Mink to fetch your things.”

Ji Yin quickly opened the bundle. Everything she had brought was inside—her clothes and all her belongings, nothing missing.

“Could you give me a moment? I’d like to change,” Ji Yin asked.

Instead of leaving, Xuan Yuanji took off his ornate outer garment and hung it on a rack to the side, creating a barrier that completely shielded her small figure from view.

Ji Yin immediately understood, and using his clothes as cover, she swiftly changed.

The medicine worked wonders; even dressed, she felt no discomfort at all.

She emerged from behind the clothes to find Xuan Yuanji, like herself, dressed only in his inner garments.

“Great Demon, you and Brother Xuan Yuan are just like a married couple,” the little cauldron teased.

Ji Yin didn’t reply and simply sealed the demon cauldron away.
