Chapter 72: The Brother-in-law is Jealous
Suddenly, a figure burst forth from the raging wind!
Chu Yu saw the figure charging straight at him, and before he could react, a powerful surge of soul force had already bound him in place.
Ji Yin clenched her fist and swung it hard at Chu Yu!
He felt a darkness fall over his vision as his body spun uncontrollably to the side. Barely managing to keep himself from falling in utter disgrace, he gripped his sword and lunged toward Ji Yin.
But his swordplay had lost all form and discipline; it was as if he were wielding a kitchen knife, hacking wildly with no direction.
Ji Yin caught the blade between her fingers and, with a subtle burst of strength, snapped the sword cleanly in two.
Startled, Chu Yu saw the half-blade in Ji Yin's hand coming for him. He dodged just in time; the broken sword grazed his cheek. He raised a hand to his face and found his fingertips stained with fresh blood.
In the next instant, Ji Yin leapt into the air and kicked at him. Chu Yu hastily gathered his soul force to block her strike—but his strength was far from what he had imagined. He had expended too much in the fight already.
If only he had known Ji Yin could walk out of the wind column unscathed, he never would have agreed to fight for the time it takes an incense stick to burn!
But it was too late for regrets.
Once more, Ji Yin’s fist smashed into his cheekbone. Darkness threatened to swallow him as he nearly lost consciousness from the blow.
Another surge of force yanked him through the air, leaving him utterly powerless to resist, and he was thrown harshly to the ground.
Ji Yin fought with pure brute strength, relying on no technique whatsoever.
The onlookers were stunned—how could Young Master Chu, famed for his skill, be so utterly helpless before such a brawler's assault?
After all, he was a cultivator of the third tier, while Ji Yin had not yet broken through—had she?
What they did not realize was how fierce the soul force raging from Ji Yin truly was; Chu Yu was simply outmatched and could only endure the beating.
"Xiao Qi! Stop!" Ji Shaofeng’s voice rang out from the crowd.
If he had been even a moment later, would Xiao Qi have crippled Chu Yu then and there?
Ji Yin hauled Chu Yu up and kicked him again, clearly not yet satisfied.
Ji Shaofeng hurried forward, intent on intervening himself.
"Yin’er, that’s enough," came another voice—Xuan Yuanji’s.
Ji Yin’s raised fist froze in front of Chu Yu’s face, then relaxed and fell to her side. Chu Yu collapsed limply to the ground.
Ji Shaofeng halted, glancing back at Xuan Yuanji. A strange, sour feeling welled up in his chest—how easily Xuan Yuanji had commanded Xiao Qi to stop. He had never seen her so obedient before.
Chu Yu lay sprawled on the ground, pain wracking every inch of his body, making him wish for death. For the moment, he cared nothing for his dignity—he was like a dead dog, limp and defeated.
Slowly, the onlookers regained their senses.
The outcome of this duel was clear. Young Master Chu had summoned a mighty wind, appearing formidable, yet failed even to harm a single hair on the Seventh Young Lord’s head. Instead, he had been thoroughly thrashed—a truly humiliating defeat.
The Seventh Young Lord was fierce indeed—every punch landed with full force, more than enough for Chu Yu to bear.
Just how strong was Ji Yin now? Had she, newly awakened, already surpassed the third tier? If that were true, those who had once called her worthless would have to eat their words.
Ji Shaofeng stepped forward to examine Chu Yu’s injuries. He checked the young man’s pulse, his brow furrowing in concern.
Where had Xiao Qi found the soul force to batter Chu Yu so severely?
Was it Xuan Yuanji’s doing? Could he really have raised Xiao Qi’s strength to such heights in so short a time?
Seeing Ji Shaofeng’s grim expression, Ji Yin, fearing another scolding like before, quietly explained, “Young Master Chu challenged me. It had nothing to do with me.”
