Chapter 93: Was Luck Too Good or Too Bad?

The Celestial Array is based on the Eight Trigrams and changes without end. No matter how formidable one’s power, once inside the formation, there is no way out.

The eight positions stand apart in all directions, representing Heaven, Earth, Thunder, Wind, Water, Fire, Mountain, and Lake.

From the Great Void comes the Supreme Ultimate; from the Supreme Ultimate arise the Two Principles; from the Two Principles the Four Images; from the Four Images the Eight Trigrams; and from the Eight Trigrams, all things in the world are born.

If that reasoning is correct, then the formation should consist of three parts.

When they first entered Cloud-Weaving Mountain, they should have been in the first part, formed by the eight trigrams alone. If they could make it out of that first layer, they would enter the second.

The second part should merge the four cardinal directions with the eight trigrams.

That second part was the truly perilous one. Once trapped within it, one might never escape in a lifetime. The brilliance of the formation lay precisely there, in its utter bewilderment; let alone breaking it, one could scarcely even make sense of it.

The third part was the very center of the formation, where the positions of Heaven and Earth were set in perfect order, and yin and yang reached their two extremes.

Only by reaching that place could one find a way to leave the array.

The eight positions shifted once every two hours...

Ji Yin suddenly jolted upright.

"Great Demon, did you find something?"

"I'm not entirely sure."

Ji Yin looked around, unable even to tell which direction she was facing. Each time the formation shifted, the surrounding landscape changed with it; everything was altered at random.

If luck was poor, they might truly be sent straight into the lair of the Poison Emperor Spider.

"Little Demon, when about two hours had passed just now, the place we were in didn't change at all, did it?" Ji Yin asked softly.

"That’s right."

"If that’s the case, then have we already left the first part?" That suspicion was what had suddenly made Ji Yin’s heart sink.

"I think so."

Then how often did the second part change?

Ji Yin was not sure. She had no idea how she had suddenly been sent into the second layer. Perhaps the spot where she had been standing before happened to lie at an intersection, and so she had been carried directly into the second part.

If that were truly the case, Ji Yin did not even know whether to laugh or cry.

Was her luck too good, or too terrible?

Her second and third brothers were still trapped within the formation, cut off from all news. She did not know whether they had been hurt.

And now she herself had been separated from everyone else; she had no idea how the others were faring.

The Celestial Array... the Poison Emperor Spider...

Who knew what other unknown dangers lurked within?

...

"Three linked on heaven, six broken on earth; the center of Fire is empty, the center of Water is full; Thunder is like an upturned basin, Mountain like an overturned bowl; Lake is open at the top, Wind is broken at the bottom..."

Ji Yun looked at the man in the dark blue robe before him, his brow tightly furrowed.

"Young Master Mo, have you found any clue?"

Mo Chuan turned around and coughed twice. "Probably... this formation was laid according to the Eight Trigrams. I have never seen such an exquisitely crafted array before."

"Is there a way to break it?" This was what Ji Yun cared about most.

"Not yet."

Aside from running a food shop, few knew that the Mo family was skilled at breaking formations and mechanisms.

Mo Chuan was the Mo family’s sole heir, and he had been invited by Ji Yun.

Now even the one most likely to have a way of breaking the array had no clue whatsoever. The others, of course, were even more helpless.

The small teams that had been divided up before entering the mountain had long since been thrown into disarray. The moment they set foot on the mountain, reality struck them like a blow to the head!
