Chapter 115: A Fierce Flurry of Actions
“I don’t want to die in a terrible way! How painful must that be!”
“Doesn’t everyone have the medicine given by Young Master? I think it’s meant to dispel these poisonous insects!” Mo Chuan reminded as he opened his bundle, searching for the packet of medicine.
“Quick! Scatter it all over the stone steps!” Ji Yun ordered.
Da Li immediately tore open the paper packet, revealing a white powder, which he swiftly poured onto the steps. Sure enough, it worked — as soon as the scorpions crawled onto the powder, they turned and headed in the opposite direction.
Now an eerie scene unfolded: a row of people standing shoulder to shoulder on the narrow stone steps, while beneath them, a dense mass of black scorpions swarmed.
Though the scorpions couldn’t climb up, they didn’t know if more were lurking within the caves ready to emerge.
“Everyone, ration the medicine carefully. Sprinkle some at the entrances of these caves as well,” Ji Yun instructed.
Everyone hurriedly followed his command, spreading the powder at the cave mouths.
The path ahead remained uncertain, and the medicine they carried was limited.
“Scorpions fear fire too. I have plenty of fire talismans. I’ll lead the way,” Ji Yin volunteered.
“I’ll go,” Ji Yun said firmly, unwilling to let his daughter take the lead.
“Father, there’s still a long way ahead. You need to conserve your strength to protect everyone,” Ji Yin said cautiously, stepping forward to stand before Ji Yun.
The path ahead was also blocked by scorpions.
She immediately unleashed several fire talismans, filling the area with flames.
Just as everyone thought they were saved and could advance, they spotted a massive figure on the stone wall ahead — as large as a grown man!
This creature looked exactly like the scorpions, only magnified many times over!
It was currently facing Ji Yin, who seemed to have provoked it.
“Big Demon, be careful!” the Demon Cauldron warned instinctively.
Ji Yin rapidly controlled the fire talismans, hurling fireballs at the giant scorpion.
But the creature’s body seemed armored; the fire attacks had no effect at all.
Ji Yin quickly formed a hand seal. A phoenix feather flew into the air, transforming into a feathered fan which she grasped firmly, eyes locked warily on the giant scorpion.
Suddenly, the Crimson Flame Weasel leapt from Ji Yin’s body, its sharp claws gripping the stone wall.
“Big Demon, this creature is merely an ordinary poisonous insect. Aside from its deadly venom, it has no spiritual energy signature,” she explained.
Beasts, like humans, rely on spiritual energy to cultivate. Given the dense spiritual energy in Weave Cloud Mountain, this creature’s lack thereof showed its primitive nature.
Suddenly, another scorpion charged from a different direction!
Everyone’s attention was on the large scorpion ahead; no one expected the second to sneak up from behind. The scorpion’s tail sting pierced a man’s heart, lifting him off the ground.
Chu Yu was beside the man and, seeing this, summoned a fierce gust of wind. The scorpion moved with incredible speed, dodging the attack.
Due to the terrain, Chu Yu’s movements were somewhat restricted.
Still, driving off this scorpion would relieve much of his tension.
Hopefully, both scorpions would target Ji Yin and eliminate her!
Just as Chu Yu suspected, the scorpion flicked its tail, hurling the man far away, then, side by side with the other, both charged toward Ji Yin.
“Perfect—one for one, two for two!” Ji Yin gripped her fan. With a flick of her wrist, the soul energy on the fan surged like a mighty current, sweeping toward the two scorpions.
