Chapter 39: The Sky Origin Sect
Ji Yun was even more shocked than Ji Shaochen when he heard the news from Tianyuan Sect.
Ji Yin hadn’t broken through?
So all that spiritual energy was just to give her a good night’s sleep?
Ji Yun felt a dull ache in his chest. Since this was the result, what more could he say?
…
After finishing her meal, Ji Yin was led by Ji Shaochen toward the buildings behind the Tianyuan Hall.
“You are now officially a member of the Tianyuan Sect, so you’ll live here just like Fourth and Sixth Brother. On your rest days, you can return to the Ji residence.”
Ji Yin knew that every seven days she could take a day off.
“Your quarters are an independent little courtyard. It used to be Father’s study, but now it’s been specially cleaned and prepared for you. I’ve already tidied everything up inside.”
As soon as Ji Yin stepped into the secluded courtyard, a familiar voice caught her ear.
“Young Master!” Shuang’er ran over excitedly and bowed to Ji Yin.
“With Shuang’er here to attend to you, Mother can rest easy.”
A warm feeling blossomed in Ji Yin’s heart. No matter where she went, she was surrounded by meticulous care, so many people loving and cherishing her, looking after her—it was a warmth she had never known before.
—
Upon entering the main hall, Ji Yin was utterly astonished to find it filled with boxes stacked high, their contents a mystery.
“These are from Eldest Brother. He made these insect-repellent, calming sachets himself, afraid you wouldn’t sleep well away from home.”
“These are from Second Brother, weapons he forged himself. See if there’s anything you like.”
“These are from Fifth Brother, all sorts of little trinkets. He was worried you’d be lonely up in the mountains.”
“This bundle is from Mother, some clothes and daily necessities.”
Ji Yin was at a loss for words to express her feelings.
Ji Shaochen pointed to an even larger chest off to the side. “This is from Third Brother. Want to guess what’s inside?”
Ji Yin had already caught a whiff the moment she entered—the enticing aroma wafting from that chest.
“It must be something delicious!”
“I knew it—your nose is keener than a puppy’s,” Ji Shaochen laughed, opening the chest. “There’s specialty venison, donkey, and beef jerky from Hundred Flavors Shop, plus all kinds of preserved fruits and sweets—all your favorites. Here are some assorted snacks as well; I weighed out a bit of everything.”
“To aid with your cultivation, all the meals at Tianyuan Sect are kept light and plain. You probably won’t be used to it, so hide these treats well. Whatever you do, don’t let Sixth Brother find them, and Father mustn’t know either.”
“Got it!” Ji Yin nodded eagerly.
If Ji Shaowen, that glutton, found these snacks, it would be a disaster!
—
Last time, one of Eldest Brother’s pills had made Ji Shaowen drool with envy.
“Xiao Qi, remember, your brothers will always protect you. All you need to do is be happy every day. Don’t force yourself too hard with cultivation, understand?” Ji Shaochen ruffled her hair.
Ji Yin nodded. “I understand.”
“I have some matters to attend to, but I’ll come fetch you home on your next rest day.”
“Okay!” Ji Yin nodded again.
After Ji Shaochen left, Shuang’er immediately picked up a small plate and arranged some food for Ji Yin. “Young Master, go rest for a while. I’ll tidy all this up in no time.”
“Especially hide the food well.”
“Understood!” Shuang’er replied with a smile.
Holding a plate of jerky, Ji Yin settled into a lounge chair, rocking contentedly.
“Great Demon, having family feels wonderful.”
“Yes, it’s a warmth I’ve never known before—a feeling like home.”
