Chapter 88: Redistribution and Exchange of Resources
"Chu, what do you mean by 'physics' here?"
"Using force, threatening the Du family, and turning their possessions into mine."
Asking someone for such rare medicinal herbs out of the blue? Of course they wouldn’t give them, so what’s the solution? Fight—fight until they willingly hand them over! This method not only saves energy, but time as well. It’s exactly Chu Fei’s preferred approach.
Tan Yingyao immediately shouted, "Isn’t that just robbery?!"
"What nonsense! What nonsense is that!" Chu Fei protested. "Can the deeds of a hero be called robbery?"
"This is called resource exchange and redistribution. Do you understand?"
Tan Yingyao sighed, "Chu, maybe you’d better just speak Chinese."
"Smash my fist into someone’s skull, put their herbs into my pocket." Chu Fei shamelessly declared, "Isn’t that resource exchange? Everyone gets something, they aren’t losing out!"
—You really do understand the technical terms!
Tan Yingyao grumbled inwardly, then tried to reason with Chu Fei.
"If it were anyone else, I wouldn’t object, but the Du family’s situation is complicated..."
The Du family was the most powerful in Dragon City, but unlike the Ouyang clan, they weren’t ruthless tycoons. On the contrary, they often donated to charity. At Lin Tianhao’s recent charity gala, the Du family gave over a billion. Most of the city’s welfare homes were funded by them, sheltering countless orphans. Their reputation was stellar; everyone who met them praised their generosity.
Even Tan Yingyao, who considered himself something of a rogue, believed good people deserved good fortune. He couldn’t bring himself to use violence against the Du family like Chu Fei.
Chu Fei himself was an orphan. Before meeting his beautiful master, he wandered through the world alone. Though his memories before ascending the mountain had faded, the feeling remained vivid to him.
Giving those lost children a home—just that alone was enough to move Chu Fei. Yet he was a man of few sentimental words, preferring not to show his softer side.
"For the wealthy, society always assumes they’re good people," Chu Fei said. "How do you know the good guy you speak of isn’t just a skilled liar?"
Tan Yingyao answered earnestly, "I guarantee Old Master Du is genuinely a good man. If he isn’t, I’ll cut off my own—"
He’d gone so far as to make such a vow.
It was clear Tan Yingyao truly respected the Du family, willing to swear so fiercely for them. Chu Fei could only reply, "Fine, then how do I get them to give me the Dewgrass?"
"We’ll discuss it in person, Chu. This isn’t a matter that can be settled in a few words. I’ll go with you to the Du family."
"Come pick me up, then!" Chu Fei knew Tan Yingyao feared he’d try his ‘resource exchange’ at the Du family, which was why he wanted to accompany him.
Half an hour later, Tan Yingyao was waiting at the villa gate. After saying a few words to Meng Ziyi and the others, Chu Fei left with Tan Yingyao.
"Chu, actually last time I went to the Du family, I already negotiated the terms," Tan Yingyao explained. "Old Master Du has been struck by a strange illness—constant high fever, his body covered in boils. When they rupture, the itching is unbearable, and they continue to fester..."
"So the family’s condition is simple: if we cure Old Master Du, the Dewgrass is ours."
Tan Yingyao had made this deal because he’d learned from Ye Chen that Chu Fei was skilled in medicine. It was worth a try—certainly better than Chu Fei’s direct ‘resource exchange’!
After hearing Tan Yingyao’s account, Chu Fei calmly lit a cigarette.
"He hasn’t been checked at a hospital?"
"He has, and he’s seen the best specialists, but none can identify the cause."
"Then it’s no ordinary skin disease," Chu Fei squinted. "Interesting. I’d like to see just how peculiar this really is."
The pair chatted idly as they drove.
Soon, Tan Yingyao brought Chu Fei into the Du family estate. Truly worthy of being Dragon City’s foremost clan—this estate spanned at least a hundred acres, with beautiful scenery and opulent decoration.
Because Tan Yingyao had contacted them ahead of time, as soon as they parked, someone came to greet them.
A mature, sensual woman in a form-fitting dress, and a stylish young man.
The pair first greeted Tan Yingyao, then turned to Chu Fei.
Tan Yingyao introduced them with a smile, "This is Chu, whom I mentioned before. He should be able to cure Old Master Du’s illness!"
"Chu, this is Madam Liu Hanmei, Old Master Du’s daughter-in-law. And beside her is Du Zitong, the eldest son of the Du family!"
Chu Fei frowned, "What’s that, stomach pain? Ate something wrong?"
"It’s ‘zi’ for son, ‘tong’ for soaring," Du Zitong said, annoyed, turning to the woman. "My father hopes I will soar high—this name is full of meaning. How could you make it sound so unpleasant!"
"Mom, this guy seems slick. Is he really a doctor, or just a fraud?"
Liu Hanmei tapped Du Zitong’s head, her tone stern, "Don’t be rude. Mr. Chu is a miracle worker!"
"Madam, you know me?" Chu Fei glanced at Liu Hanmei as he asked.
"Of course. Our family is close with Old Cheng," Liu Hanmei stepped forward and took Chu Fei’s hand. "He’s told us all about your heroic feats."
"With the divine doctor here, Father is sure to be saved!"
Seeing her so eager to make physical contact, Chu Fei didn’t hold back. He thought, ‘Only a fool would pass up such a chance.’ Boldly, he wrapped an arm around Liu Hanmei’s slender waist, even giving her shapely rear a playful pat.
"Madam, your words are so charming. I wonder if you’re just as enticing in bed?"
Liu Hanmei didn’t mind Chu Fei’s daring. But Du Zitong yelled, "Let go of my mother! Trying to act fresh here—are you courting death?!"
"Why so worked up? Mr. Chu is only joking with me," Liu Hanmei smoothly disengaged herself, swaying her hips as she led the way. "Father is waiting in the bedroom. Please, follow me."
Chu Fei, as if bewitched by the woman, hurried after her with a grin.
Tan Yingyao followed with a wry smile, thinking, ‘Young men, after all. No wonder he’s so attentive to Song Yalan—he can’t help but be tempted by older women.’
Du Zitong watched Chu Fei’s back, thinking, ‘You’d better prove yourself, or you won’t leave here alive.’
Once inside the estate, Chu Fei sniffed the air and glanced around, as though searching for something. In Du Zitong’s eyes, this only made him look like a country bumpkin unused to luxury.
When they reached the bedroom, Chu Fei finally saw Old Master Du’s unique appearance.
At that moment, he knew that unless someone died today, the Du family wouldn’t find peace.
