Chapter 44: Switching the Language System
Shen Miaoyu stopped mid-sentence. She remembered the condition Chu Fei had set when he first brought up the partnership: he would allow the Chu Group to cooperate with the Shen family, but the premise was that the Shen family could not know she was the one who facilitated the collaboration. So, instinctively, Shen Miaoyu fell silent.
“What were you about to say?” Shen Linglong looked at Shen Miaoyu with mockery in her eyes. “Don’t tell me you’re about to claim that you’re the one who made the partnership between the Chu Group and the Shen family happen?” She sneered. “Shen Miaoyu, you really must be suffering from delusions. You’re a castaway, expelled from your family, and yet the Chu Group would have any interest in someone as lowly as you?”
Shen Miaoyu was stifled, unable to bear it. If not for the need to ensure the collaboration went smoothly, she would have revealed the truth long ago. Yet faced with Shen Linglong’s disdain, and not wanting to lose the deal because of her foul mouth, she couldn’t help but offer a hint: “Who are you collaborating with?”
“Isn’t it obvious? It’s written right here—Chu Group. Can’t you read?” Shen Linglong rolled her eyes.
Shen Miaoyu pointed at Chu Fei. “What’s his name?”
“Chu Fei.”
“He’s called Chu Fei, this is the Chu Group. Don’t you think there might be some connection between them?”
Shen Miaoyu had done all she could. This made Shen Linglong frown and glance at Chu Fei.
Chu Fei replied carelessly, “Yes, yes, I’m the chairman of the Chu Group.”
Shen Miaoyu hadn’t expected Chu Fei to admit it so directly. She thought surely this would shut Shen Linglong up at last. But Shen Linglong burst out laughing, “Him? That guy? Chairman of the Chu Group? Are you trying to kill me with laughter?”
“You don’t believe it?”
“Believe what? If he’s the chairman of the Chu Group, then I’m Meng Ziyi!”
Shen Miaoyu could only look at Chu Fei and urge him, “Go on, tell her your identity!”
“I already did. And I even put on the proper CEO expression—three parts mockery, three parts indifference, and four parts casual arrogance.” Chu Fei spread his hands. “But she doesn’t believe me, what can I do?”
Shen Miaoyu said irritably, “You’re doing this on purpose!”
“No, you two are still putting on a show.” Shen Linglong looked at them with contempt. “Get out of my sight—if you stick around any longer, I’ll have the group’s security throw you out!”
Shen Miaoyu was at her wit’s end. She hadn’t imagined Shen Linglong could be so foolish. If she kept up this attitude, the partnership between the Shen family and the Chu Group would surely fall through. Because this project really was up to Chu Fei’s word alone!
Chu Fei ignored Shen Linglong and grinned at Shen Miaoyu. “You really ought to learn another language. It’s essential.”
“Otherwise, when you run into an idiot, you won’t know how to communicate.”
“So if you can switch your language system like I do, your intelligence won’t be affected by her.”
Shen Miaoyu sensed it wasn’t a good suggestion, but her curiosity got the better of her. “What language?”
“Sign language. When you meet an idiot, you can just slap them directly.”
Before Shen Miaoyu could react, Chu Fei suddenly slapped Shen Linglong. Then, pulling the stunned Shen Miaoyu, he jumped into the car and drove away.
After all, if he stayed any longer, Chu Fei feared he wouldn’t be able to restrain himself and might accidentally beat Shen Linglong to death.
Watching the imperial A886SB license plate disappear into the distance, Shen Linglong was left bewildered in the wind! It was only after a while that she felt the pain on her cheek and realized Chu Fei had slapped her again, so furious she nearly exploded on the spot.
She had thought, standing at the Chu Group’s entrance, that Chu Fei wouldn’t dare lay a hand on her. But she hadn’t expected that this brat seemed addicted to hitting her!
Soon, though, she realized something was off. That Rolls-Royce looked expensive. Shen Miaoyu had left her family with nothing, and Chu Fei was supposedly a pauper—how could he afford it? Could he really be…?
No, impossible!
Shen Linglong shook her head, banishing the absurd thought.
There were so many people surnamed Chu in Longxia; how could such a coincidence exist?
Afterwards, she entered the Chu Group.
Secretary Jin received her warmly. Because everything had been arranged in advance, Jin led her straight to sign the contract.
This made Shen Linglong even more certain: Chu Fei could not possibly be the chairman of the Chu Group. Otherwise, given his personality, how could this cooperation proceed so smoothly?
“Miss Shen, is there any issue with the contract?” Secretary Jin’s words pulled Shen Linglong from her thoughts.
“No problem at all. Thank you for your group’s trust!”
Without even looking at the contract, Shen Linglong signed her name.
“Miss Shen, aren’t you going to check it carefully?” Secretary Jin regarded her like prey, hiding her fangs.
Shen Linglong flattered, “I trust your group completely. It’s an honor to work with you!”
“No, the honor is ours.” Secretary Jin responded politely, quickly stowing the contract as if afraid Shen Linglong might realize something.
She added, “By the way, we’ll hold onto the contract for now.”
Normally, there should be two copies of the contract. But Shen Linglong didn’t mind; with Meng Xinghe backing her, she wasn’t afraid of getting cheated. Besides, with the Meng family investing in the Chu Group, she couldn’t imagine any reason why they’d try to trick her.
“Now that the contract is signed, may I meet your chairman?” Shen Linglong was genuinely curious.
Just who was the chairman of the Chu Group, and why had he earned Meng Ziyi’s favor? She wanted to meet him, and confirm that Chu Fei was just blowing smoke.
“I’m sorry, the chairman isn’t in the office today.” Secretary Jin, who had discussed the matter privately with Chu Fei, made up a random excuse.
Shen Linglong was finally at ease. Secretary Jin said the chairman wasn’t here today, so the man she met at the entrance couldn’t possibly be the chairman!
After exchanging a few more pleasantries with Jin, Shen Linglong left the Chu Group. Just as she was about to head home and share the good news with her family, her phone rang. She frowned, but switched expressions and answered.
On the other side—
Chu Fei floored the accelerator, eager to get home and enjoy some happiness with Shen Miaoyu.
Shen Miaoyu, sitting in the passenger seat, felt a bit nervous. The earlier situation in the office had only been a diversion; now she was in a precarious position. Meng Ziyi wasn’t home, and Chu Fei would surely seize the opportunity. Just thinking of that night made her cheeks flush.
Looking at the man’s handsome profile, she couldn’t help but ask, “Chu Fei, do you like me?”
“If I said I liked you, would you be willing to go to the door of someone I hate in the middle of the night and take a dump?” Chu Fei asked sincerely.
Shen Miaoyu: “…”
“See, you can’t even do that—and you talk about liking or not liking!”
“So would you be willing?”
“Of course. If it’s someone I like, not just a dump—if I had to feed my heart to the dogs, I wouldn’t mind!”
In the end, Shen Miaoyu’s personal standards were too high, so she didn’t pursue the question any further.
Chu Fei was happy not to bring it up again.
Life is just one foolish act chasing another; love is two fools pursuing each other. Wise men stay out of love—no responsibility for pregnancy! With the gender ratio so skewed, what’s wrong with me having a few extra partners (shouted loudly)!
Just as Chu Fei was about to continue his psychological games with Shen Miaoyu, an off-road vehicle sped up from behind and slammed directly into the Rolls-Royce.
Chu Fei calmly parked the car, then saw an old man and a young one get out of the off-roader, storming over with a vengeance as if they’d come to settle a blood feud.
