Chapter 50: What Does It Mean to Be an International Superstar?
The one who mocked Chu Fei was none other than Song Yalan, the woman whom Chu Fei had nearly worn out that morning. Truly, mature women possess remarkable stamina—after such exertion earlier, she still brimmed with energy! Zhou Mi did not know Song Yalan personally, but she recognized the man at her side: Lin Yang, the unfortunate eldest son of Lin Tianhao.
“And who might you be?” Zhou Mi narrowed her eyes, sizing up the hostile Song Yalan. Song Yalan, in turn, appraised Zhou Mi, silently confirming Chu Fei’s reputation as a scoundrel. Barely half a day had passed, and he had already found another woman—one seemingly younger and more beautiful than herself!
“Miss Zhou, allow me to introduce you,” Lin Yang said to Zhou Mi, “This is Miss Song Yalan, president of Guan Group. As for Miss Zhou, she is an actress and singer.” Song Yalan’s expression grew contemptuous at his words. In truth, not only she, but Lin Yang as well—and indeed most of the wealthy elite—shared this attitude. To them, celebrities were mere tools for capital, nothing but entertainers unworthy of true respect.
Thus, after Lin Yang’s introduction, Song Yalan made no effort to conceal her disdain, letting out a cold laugh. “So Miss Zhou is a superstar? How is it that a person of your status is associating with someone like him?” Zhou Mi was displeased by Song Yalan’s attitude and turned to Chu Fei, saying, “Did you offend this auntie?”
Auntie—the word struck like a nuclear bomb to any woman. Song Yalan’s face darkened; though she was in her thirties, she remained confident in her looks—otherwise Lin Yang would never be so eager to please her. She had come tonight to negotiate a collaboration with the Lin family, but encountering Chu Fei unexpectedly, she could not resist a few biting remarks to vent her anger.
“It’s not exactly offending—just clashed with her a few times,” Chu Fei replied, his gaze at Song Yalan half-amused, half-mocking. Song Yalan instantly recalled the morning—his body pressed against hers—and shame and anger welled up within her.
She turned to Lin Yang, saying, “Young Master Lin, is your charity gala open to every stray cat and dog? Some people simply have no qualifications to attend such events!” As one of Song Yalan’s most devoted admirers, Lin Yang didn’t know what had transpired between Song Yalan and Chu Fei, but he would surely stand by his goddess without question. He arrogantly addressed Zhou Mi, “Miss Zhou, why did you bring this country bumpkin to the gala?”
“He’s lowering the entire event’s standards! Aren’t you afraid reporters might capture this and make you a laughingstock?” He feigned concern for Zhou Mi’s future, urging, “For your sake, you should send this bumpkin away!”
As the host of the banquet, he had the authority. If Zhou Mi complied, all would be well; if not, he intended to expel her as well. He could not allow his goddess’s mood to be spoiled by their presence.
“Bumpkin?” Chu Fei glanced at Lin Yang, replying, “Is there enough dirt on me to bury you?”
Zhou Mi had intended to help Chu Fei retort, but clearly, her junior needed no assistance. She trusted his ability to defend himself.
“Truly a rustic who knows nothing of decorum!” Lin Yang’s hostility deepened. “Get out now, or you’ll drag Zhou Mi down with you and both be thrown out!” His words were an open threat. Song Yalan watched with glee; whether Chu Fei or Zhou Mi, who dared call her auntie, she was happy to see their humiliation.
“What’s your problem, Lin Yang?” Zhou Mi frowned. “We’re minding our own business, and you come over to bite us?”
“Do you usually lurk by the roadside, biting innocent pedestrians when you’re in a bad mood?”
“Fourth Senior Sister, this dog not only bites, but licks as well,” Chu Fei added, “More accurately, he belongs to the breed of lapdogs.”
“I was just worried she hadn’t brought a leash—sure enough, he came up and bit us!” Truly, they shared the same mentor. Their banter was merciless, and together, they amplified each other’s wit.
“You two are courting death…!” Lin Yang was almost beside himself with rage. He had not expected Zhou Mi, an actress, to oppose the capitalists for a man. Song Yalan too was surprised; she had assumed Lin Yang’s status would deter them from offending him, yet their insults were utterly relentless.
“Chu Fei, I demand you apologize to Young Master Lin immediately!” Song Yalan snapped. “He’s the host tonight; if you offend him, do you wish to leave here on a stretcher?”
“And you, the actress—don’t think that attending these events makes you our equal! If you don’t understand your place, how long do you think your fame will last?”
Smack! Zhou Mi was not inclined to be polite—she slapped Song Yalan directly. Chu Fei made no attempt to stop her; if someone insisted on humiliating themselves, it was none of his concern.
“Acting is merely my hobby,” Zhou Mi said coldly, her eyes icy. “In truth, my real identity is a deranged serial killer.”
“If you don’t apologize to my junior, I’ll turn you into human barbecue buns!”
What is an international superstar? Tactical lean-back.jpg—this was it, slipping seamlessly into the role. Song Yalan was so startled she clutched her cheek, retreating several steps.
Chu Fei almost burst out laughing, but instead made a heart gesture in admiration of his senior sister’s superb acting.
“So, Fourth Sister, this is your true nature—aha, you’ve frightened me!” Lin Yang, seeing his goddess bullied and confronted by Chu Fei’s barbs, glared furiously at Zhou Mi.
“Zhou Mi, you clearly have no respect for me!”
“I’m not your brother Lin Feng, who likes playing for the other team—how could I possibly fit into your eye?”
The implication was staggering; even Chu Fei had to puzzle through the layers to grasp what she meant by “eye”—she was truly a master of innuendo.
“So, you’re the elder brother who ended up in the eye?” Chu Fei realized aloud. “No wonder you’ve seemed so flamboyant since the start.”
“A wretched man matches a chicken—inseparable!” Zhou Mi chimed in, “You’re right; have some blood pressure pills to whet your appetite.”
Chu Fei looked at Zhou Mi in delight. “Fourth Sister, you’ve nailed four rhymes!”
What is a truly devastating insult? This was it—not only exposing someone’s secrets, but rapping them for extra effect!
“What does that mean?” Song Yalan, though baffled, sensed Lin Yang was on the verge of exploding. Lin Yang offered no explanation, unsure how to respond. Song Yalan’s question was salt in his wound, forcing him to recall the terror of being dominated by Lin Feng from behind.
Restless and furious, he summoned security, pointing at the pair who seemed destined for rap stardom. “Throw these two out of here—now!”
