My Independent System A Faint Stranger in the Mirror 3020 words 2026-04-13 15:05:53

The auction had ended, and many joyful days had passed. Yafei not only recognized Ling Yuqing as her younger sister, but in the brief span of these days, their bond had deepened considerably. The two women were harmonious and inseparable. Even Qianmo felt a touch of envy, though by night she too was happily ravished by the mischievous Qianmo. Each morning, when Ling Yuqing encountered Qianmo, her cheeks would flush ever so slightly. She naturally knew what transpired between the two at night, but kept silent, for to voice it would only bring herself embarrassment. Shrewdly, she pretended nothing had happened.

When Yafei looped her arm around Ling Yuqing’s wrist and led her away, Qianmo merely observed, accustomed to the scene and made no attempt to intervene.

Night descended upon the Douqi Continent.

The sky here was unlike the nocturnal heavens of Qianmo’s previous life on Earth. On Earth, he vividly remembered that, during idle moments, aside from playing games, he would lie on the grassy balcony and gaze at the moon and stars above. The stars were beautiful, their arrangements forming myriad shapes, each representing a constellation. As he reminisced, the twelve constellations of Earth’s night sky emerged in his mind. He had no parents, no kin—only an elderly grandmother in Guanming City, a woman with whom he shared no blood. Qianmo recalled that, when he was three, he was found crying on the roadside, having lost his parents, feeling as though he had appeared out of thin air. The old woman happened to pass by, pitied him, and took him in. Until… that night, when the nightmare came… No one could have foreseen how abruptly that night would end—a meteorite fell… A beautiful city, and the grandmother who had raised him for so many years… was gone.

“Heavens, is this fate? Why play such cruel games? If it truly is destiny, if everything is arranged, then come for me directly! Why? Why drag innocent souls into this? Why hurt the only family I ever had?”

On top of the Mittal estate, Qianmo lay upon the thick roof tiles, oblivious to their hardness and discomfort. His mind replayed everything he had endured to this day, thinking of the grandmother who had nurtured him, cherished him, and treated him as her own true grandchild. The injustice of the world! The more he dwelled on it, the tighter his fist clenched, his eyes reddened, and tears began to fall, unnoticed and unmeasured. In his gaze was a boundless ferocity and ruthlessness. When the tears reached his lips, he licked them—“So bitter!”

Indeed, it was bitter—no salt, just unbearable bitterness! These tears were genuine, born of true emotion.

Within those tears was a profound longing and resentment. The longing was for the grandmother who had raised him; the resentment was for the injustice of the heavens and earth.

Qianmo swore! From this moment forth:

“Since destiny has granted me the system, I will use it to become the strongest! I will pierce the five thousand realms of heaven and earth!”

Clutching his chest, he made this vow, his voice and expression utterly earnest. The heaven and earth he referred to were not merely those of the Douqi Continent, nor those of Earth, but the entirety of all the heavens and worlds!

(In the background, a battle anthem resounds!)

In contrast, the Douqi Continent’s night sky held no stars. Only a solitary moon stood out, vast and glaringly prominent, far larger than Earth’s. The night here felt especially cold and indifferent. On Earth, at least there were dancing grandmothers in public squares, music, lively streets, radiant lanterns. Here… nothing.

After making his vow, Qianmo stood atop the roof in white robes. The wind stirred his hair, and with a turn, he leapt down to the ground.

“Looks like I need to collect more treasures. Can’t squander this opportunity,” he murmured, glancing around.

Inside the house,

A beauty was combing her hair when she heard the window open suddenly.

“Who’s there?!”

Yafei instantly became alert, her Douqi surging forth, unleashing a killing blow!

Qianmo’s eyes widened in surprise—“Good heavens! Is she always this fierce? But… it won’t work on me!” He smirked, meeting the attack head-on. Yafei’s strike, upon contact, evaporated like a droplet of water meeting the blazing sun—vanished without a trace.

---

Qianmo spun lightly, wrapped Yafei in his arms, and teasingly tapped her nose.

“Hey now! You’ve grown bold, daring to strike even me?”

“Humph! It’s all your fault! Who told you to sneak in through the window in the middle of the night, instead of using the front door? I thought you were someone else! What if—what if you were up to no good?!”

Yafei pounded his chest to vent her annoyance.

“How could that be, darling? If anyone dared to harm you, I’d make sure their soul was utterly destroyed!” Qianmo replied, patting his chest.

“Besides, my little sweetheart, I just wanted to try something new. Come on! I’m here to cause you trouble—let’s save the rest for later!” Qianmo’s tone shifted, his mischievous intent clear.

“Oh, you’re impossible!”

They kissed, and Qianmo laid Yafei on the bed, igniting another passionate battle.

The night passed in silence, for both were exhausted and fell into a deep sleep, waking only with the dawn. It was the day Qianmo would depart—he was off to seek his pleasures.

Morning.

The two lovers lay upon the spacious bed, both awake, yet neither spoke; the atmosphere was quiet and solemn.

“Um…”

“Um…” Both spoke at once.

“You go first.”

“You go first.” Again, simultaneous.

“I’ll say it!”

“I’ll say it!” Still in unison.

“Stop! I’ll speak, I’ll speak,” Qianmo interjected quickly, a puzzled look on his face.

“Alright, go ahead,” Yafei replied, her expression serious, sensing what was coming.

“Well… Yafei, I’m leaving. I want to travel, to truly see this world. Will you come with me?”

Qianmo said.

“Mhm, just as I thought. You really are leaving,” Yafei’s face changed, her serious expression softening into a smile.

---

She continued, “I knew from the start you wouldn’t stay here forever. A man as exceptional as you has your own path to walk. I won’t go with you; I still have Niko and Qingqing to keep me company. I’ll wait here for your return. Besides… I am now a Douqi Emperor!”

Yafei raised her fist as she spoke.

Indeed, Yafei had now achieved the rank of Douqi Emperor. After so many days of dual cultivation with Qianmo, combined with the energy-enhancing pills, she had become a true Douqi Emperor!

“My dear, take this!” Qianmo conjured a protective talisman and handed it to Yafei.

“Let me see—what kind of talisman is this?” Yafei asked happily.

“A protective charm,” Qianmo replied. As he finished speaking, the charm in Yafei’s hand dissipated into a beam of light, merging into her forehead.

“When you’re in danger, simply recite my name in your heart—no matter where I am, I’ll come to you instantly. Remember, it’s instant—instant! Just in case, if danger approaches and you can’t defeat it, the charm will keep you safe.”

Qianmo spoke slowly.

“Thank you!” Yafei said sincerely.

“We’re an old married couple—why thank me?” Qianmo embraced her.

“Two years at most. I will return for you. Then, you must come with me!” Qianmo declared, gripping her hand possessively.

“Alright, I promise I’ll go with you then!” Yafei replied.

“When I’m gone, keep an eye on the Xiao family for me. Xiao Yan is my disciple. If anything happens, you can seek their help as well.”

Remembering at the last moment, Qianmo reminded her.

“So it was you! The one who helped the Xiao family defeat the Liao clan and subdue the Oba clan!” Yafei exclaimed in surprise.

“Just petty villains! How could they trouble your husband? Now, I must go—give me a kiss!”

Qianmo leaned in.

A soft kiss.

Their lips met, preparing for his departure.
