Outside

“What’s going on? Why is the entire Ghost King Sect trembling like this?” The violent shaking of the ground startled everyone—it was something that had never happened since the founding of the Ghost King Sect. Those who didn’t understand thought a powerful enemy had arrived, and it was only natural for them to panic.

Obvious cracks had appeared across the ground of the sect, each fissure about three centimeters apart. With the earth’s tremors came an overpowering force that pressed down on everyone, leaving them gasping for breath. Some knelt, some lay prostrate, all soaked in sweat.

Fortunately, the ominous presence soon dissipated, and everyone breathed a sigh of relief.

“Damn it, who else could be responsible for such terrifying energy if not that brat?” the Ghost King said angrily.

“Since that brat came to our Ghost King Sect, I haven’t had a moment’s peace. Tell me, where did you find such a monster?” The Ghost King, Xiao Chi, Biyao, and Lu Xueqi—the four of them stood outside a secret chamber as the Ghost King spoke to Biyao.

“Oh, you’re praising your daughter so much she’ll be embarrassed! Besides, isn’t strength a good thing? He can protect me. If he were weak, I’d probably have to protect him instead. Hmph!” Biyao retorted.

Xiao Chi and Xueqi exchanged a glance and quietly watched the scene unfold.

“All right, it’s time to leave. There’s nothing here worth lingering over or taking with me.” He glanced around the secret chamber of the Heavenly Book, shook his head, and spoke.

With these words, he strode toward the exit.

Outside, the crowd watched as the chamber’s door opened. “He’s finally out, that brat,” said the Ghost King.

...

“All right, now let’s discuss how to help Xiao Chi take revenge.” In a private room, only the Ghost King and Qian Mo were present, and the Ghost King addressed Qian Mo.

“Qian Mo, Biyao said you told her that the one responsible for Xiao Chi’s death was Pufang, one of the Four Great Monks of Tianyin Temple?” The Ghost King looked at Qian Mo with grave seriousness.

“I’m not sure, father-in-law. Who do you suspect?” Qian Mo replied.

“The righteous sects, including your own Azure Cloud Sect,” the Ghost King responded.

“The Azure Cloud Sect didn’t participate in the hunt, but it was indeed Pufang, one of Tianyin Temple’s Four Great Monks, who caused it,” Qian Mo said. Then he continued, “This vengeance must be exacted, and decisively so—wipe out the entire temple. How dare he harm my mother-in-law? He isn’t worthy. If it weren’t for her, I might let it go—but now, since she is my mother-in-law, Tianyin Temple should prepare for its destruction.” Rage burned in Qian Mo’s heart.

“Didn’t expect you to be even fiercer than me, but I like it. I’d like to take revenge personally,” the Ghost King admitted, surprised. This kid truly wasn’t a benevolent soul, despite being from Azure Cloud Sect—he was more like a demon, perhaps even more terrifying than the Demon Sect itself.

“Father-in-law, that’s no problem. Tianyin Temple also happens to be where the fourth volume of the Heavenly Book is located. I’ll sever its connection with the outside world. You do your work, I’ll do mine—and if you can’t manage, just call me.” Qian Mo spoke with utter ease, as if he could wipe Tianyin Temple from existence with a wave of his hand. And indeed, with his cultivation towering two realms above this world, not just Tianyin Temple, but the entire world could be returned to its primordial state at his command.

“Good. Let’s do it. When shall we depart?” the Ghost King asked.

“The sooner the better. I dislike grudges left overnight. Let’s do it tonight. Gather the elites of the sect—leave out the weaker ones, lest they become cannon fodder,” Qian Mo finally decided.

“Very well, tonight it is,” the Ghost King agreed. With Qian Mo as their trump card, Tianyin Temple? It was nothing.

...

Late at night

What should have been a quiet night was disturbed by the crowd gathered in the Ghost King Sect’s plaza. These were all elite members, also known as the “Death Servants.”

“Is everyone here?” The voice, unmistakably Qian Mo’s, rang out.

“All who should be here have arrived. We can depart. Tonight, we will wash away the shame of years past in blood,” the Ghost King said, his brows furrowed in determination.

“Good. Let’s set off!” Qian Mo waved his hand, and a spatial wormhole opened before them.

“Go in. The other side leads straight to Tianyin Temple.” With a glance at the Ghost King, Qian Mo nodded and was the first to step through. Seeing this, the others followed.

Tonight, Tianyin Temple would know no sleep. Inside, all was peaceful—people slept, unaware that their revered temple would be erased from this world before dawn. They did not know this calamity stemmed from Pufang, one of their own Four Great Monks.

Outside

On the tranquil slope behind Tianyin Temple, a spatial portal appeared—Qian Mo’s wormhole. He was the first to step out.

“So this is Tianyin Temple? The environment’s different from the dramas—though the incense and worship are the same, most of these people are just pretending to be virtuous. Tonight, the great Lord Mo will rid the world of you all.” Qian Mo stretched lazily as he surveyed his surroundings.

With a casual wave, Qian Mo enveloped the entire temple in a barrier, severing it completely from the outside world. Tonight, no cry for help would be heard; no plea would be answered.

Following Qian Mo’s gesture, the Ghost King emerged from the wormhole, then the Four Holy Envoys, and finally the Death Servants.

“All right, enjoy yourselves tonight. I’ve already blocked Tianyin Temple’s connection to the outside. No one will know. I’ll go find my Heavenly Book,” Qian Mo said to the Ghost King.

“Understood,” the Ghost King replied, then turned solemnly to address the assembled crowd. “Tonight is the day of our Ghost King Sect’s vengeance. We shall return every humiliation Tianyin Temple brought upon us. Is that clear?”

“Understood!” the crowd answered, full of spirit.

“Excellent. Very good—such spirit, such vigor. Let’s get to work!” With that, the crowd dispersed to carry out their mission.

Qian Mo entered the interior of Tianyin Temple.

“Who dares intrude upon Tianyin Temple?” came a voice from within.

Qian Mo paused, glanced at the man blocking his way. “I am Qian Mo, passing through Tianyin Temple. I wish to study your temple’s wordless jade wall,” he replied calmly.

“Amitabha! How dare you! You know about the wordless jade wall of Tianyin Temple? Who are you, really?” The man eyed Qian Mo warily.

“So much nonsense. Why do you monks talk so much? I’m asking—will you give it or not? Just answer me,” Qian Mo said, tired of the exchange, for the man was nothing more than an insect to him.

“No!” the man replied.

“Who are you?” Qian Mo asked.

“I am Puhong, one of Tianyin Temple’s Four Great Monks. Amitabha, I advise you, Qian Mo, to leave at once,” Puhong said, thinking his reputation would intimidate Qian Mo.

“So, you’re Puhong, one of the Four Great Monks. Do you recall that eight years ago, there was a monk named Pufang—he was the one who harmed my mother-in-law?” Qian Mo said dispassionately.

“Impossible! Tianyin Temple has always acted with compassion. How could we harm your so-called mother-in-law? Pufang was one of our former Four Great Monks, but he later left, and no one knows his whereabouts,” Puhong answered gravely.

“One face for the world, another in private? You call that compassion?” Qian Mo replied coldly.

Just then, the sounds of fighting erupted within Tianyin Temple. A man stumbled in from the doorway, battered and bloodied. He cried, “Master Puhong, the Ghost King Sect has invaded and is slaughtering our disciples. Many have already been killed!”

“What? Didn’t you send for help?” Puhong asked urgently.

“No! Our signals can’t get out. The entire temple seems to be cut off by a spatial barrier,” the disciple replied.

“It’s you! Are you from the Ghost King Sect? How dare a member of the Ghost King Sect appear in Tianyin Temple!” Puhong turned, pointing at Qian Mo in fury.

“Let it be. After all, I am his son-in-law,” Qian Mo replied calmly.

“Then you will die! For slaughtering our disciples, you are unforgivable. Great Five Sounds Seal!” With that, Puhong summoned a massive seal and hurled it at Qian Mo in rage.

“So annoying. I only wanted to look at the Heavenly Book, but you insist on courting death. Xiao Xu, you haven’t been out for ages—come entertain this old monk.” With that, Qian Mo summoned Xiao Xu from the giant Gulu Ball, ready for battle.
