On the other side, Mary brandished her ancient crystal ice sword and shouted, “Ancient Crystal Meteor Strike!” She charged toward the Blood Crystal Purple Bat.

A shrill screech pierced the air—a swarm of bats emitted agonized cries.

After dispatching the smaller bats, the two looked up at the leader above. “Only this big guy is left,” Marlie said.

The leader, the Blood Crystal Purple Bat, furious at seeing its minions taken down by humans, soared into the air. It flapped its wings vigorously, absorbing the fallen bats into its body as beams of light.

Witnessing this, Marlie exclaimed, “What is it doing?!”

Suddenly, Marlie had a bad feeling.

“Could this be what the instructor called ‘body sacrifice’?” she murmured, eyes wide.

“Body sacrifice? What the hell is that?” Marlie was puzzled.

“It’s also called ‘body contribution.’ Simply put, it means offering one’s life to the strongest being on one side, making it exponentially stronger,” Mary explained, gripping her sword tightly.

“I see,” Marlie nodded, looking up. “If what you say is true, that big guy must be very powerful.”

“Yes,” Mary agreed.

“While it’s still absorbing, I’ll take it down!” Marlie leapt forward.

“Wait—” Mary raised her hand to stop him but was too late.

Marlie wielded his Burning Wheel Wave Rod, unleashing a combat skill. “Burning Wheel Annihilation! Take this, little bat!” he shouted, striking at the Blood Crystal Purple Bat.

Bang!

Marlie’s entire body was violently repelled by a tremendous force, crashing against a rocky wall and pressing it down by a full meter.

“What... what just happened?” Marlie, stuck to the rock, blinked in confusion, muttering to himself.

Blood sprayed from his mouth.

Marlie stared at the red liquid in his hand, shocked. “Blood... fresh blood? I possess the Reincarnation Burning Body—how could I bleed so profusely?”

“Ah, Marlie, you were reckless!” Mary hurried over to drag him away, scolding him.

“What’s going on?” Marlie asked.

“I wasn’t finished explaining! Why rush in to get yourself killed, and with such force?” Mary looked up at the bat again. “This is trouble. During body sacrifice, a transparent defensive barrier forms one meter around its body. Without enough power, you can’t break it, and any force hitting it is doubled and reflected back. Most importantly, the barrier channels all the attack energy to the Blood Crystal Purple Bat. So, you weren’t hurt by the bat—it was your own doubled force rebounding and injuring you!”

“No way! Is the palace lord trying to kill us? What do we do now?” Marlie despaired.

“We wait until it finishes absorbing before attacking. If we strike now and fail to break the barrier, the rebound will severely injure us, even with our body tempering,” Mary frowned, unable to think of any other solution except waiting for a powerful ally to break through.

But Mary quickly dismissed that thought—it was impossible.

Suddenly, the Blood Crystal Purple Bat let out a proud cry. The surrounding air surged, violently shaking the stone walls on either side.

Its size now visibly larger, its aura grew stronger.

“Damn, what the hell was that scream? Scared me to death!” Marlie was startled, thinking the bat had gone mad from absorbing energy. Looking up, he shouted, “Holy crap, it’s huge!”

The bat’s eyes glowed red as it stared at Marlie and Mary, then vanished with a “Search!” into thin air.

“Watch out!” Mary shouted.

Boom!

The Blood Crystal Purple Bat charged at them with its hard body. Their reaction was too slow; they were both slammed against the rocky wall with their weapons.

“Damn it! Since you dared to ambush me, I'll take you down, bat!” Marlie steadied himself with his Burning Wheel Wave Rod and counterattacked.

The bat seemed to hear his words, redirecting its gaze at Marlie. It flapped its wings, summoning a swarm of crystal-shaped arrows in midair, then unleashed them upon Marlie.

“I’m screwed,” Marlie muttered, bracing himself with the rod.

Clang, clang, clang—

The crystal arrows struck against the rod repeatedly.

“Damn it! Grandma can tolerate, but grandpa can’t! You think I’m a pushover for some little bat?” Marlie pulled the rod from the ground, releasing a blade aura that clashed with the crystals.

Boom!

After the dust settled, Marlie’s figure vanished. Moments later, he descended from the sky, aiming straight at the bat. Channeling all his Dou Huang Eight-Star power, he unleashed his skill, “Falling Burning Meteor Strike!”

“Hah!”

Boom!

Pride!

Boom!

The Blood Crystal Purple Bat couldn’t withstand the powerful blow and crashed into the ground.

“Mary, what are you waiting for? Attack together!” Marlie shouted, not giving the bat a moment to recover.

Mary, who had been watching for a moment, nodded. “Alright!”

Together, they soared, weapons in hand, shouting, “Great Burning Annihilation!” “Mystic Ice Sword Strike!”

The two combined their attacks, rapidly bombarding the Blood Crystal Purple Bat below.

Another massive explosion echoed within the cavern.

——————————

“My lord, the ship for crossing the Tagore Desert is ready. You may depart anytime,” the city lord quickly entered, addressing Qian Mo.

Qian Mo paused, fruit in hand. “Already ready? That fast?”

“Yes, my lord. Everything is prepared,” the city lord smiled sincerely.

Finishing his last fruit, Qian Mo stood and adjusted his clothing. “Let’s go. Take me there.”

“Right this way, my lord,” the city lord gestured politely.

Leading the way, the city lord brought Qian Mo to the prepared ship. Looking up, Qian Mo saw this vessel was vastly different from others he had seen outside—luxurious and obviously built for someone of great importance.

The city lord proudly said, “My lord, this is your ship. Please have a look and see if you like it.” His pride was evident, as this magnificent ship was their own creation.

Qian Mo examined the ship carefully, nodding in approval. “Indeed, quite impressive. You have every reason to be proud.”

“Ha ha, you flatter me. Still, no one compares to you!” the city lord laughed.

Qian Mo merely smiled and ascended the stairs.

Below, the city lord called out, “My lord is aboard and ready to depart!” He signaled the boatman.

“Understood, city lord!” The boatman gave an OK sign, retracting the stairs and activating the ship.

Qian Mo explored the upper deck, finally entering the control room. “At this speed, how long until we reach Tagore Desert?”

The boatman, startled by the sudden question, replied, “My lord, at our current speed, it will take at least half a day to arrive.”

Qian Mo pondered briefly and said calmly, “Very well.”

He couldn’t help but admire their ingenuity. One wondered what they’d invent during the era of technology.

Leaning against the railing, Qian Mo quietly enjoyed the breeze. His hand moved slightly, producing a pack of cigarettes. He lit one and took a drag.

“Hmm!” He turned to gaze down at the scene below.

“So this is what it feels like to ride a ship. Strange... almost dreamlike.” He inhaled deeply.

Flying in the air, free from worries, time passed swiftly.

Soon, the ship reached Tagore Desert and landed. The boatman respectfully said, “My lord, we have arrived at Tagore Desert.”

Qian Mo surveyed the endless sands stretching beyond the horizon. “Oh, we’re here.”

“Alright, you can leave now.” Qian Mo tossed a pouch heavy with gold coins to the boatman and disembarked.

The boatman weighed the pouch in his hand, eyes shining as he gratefully said, “Thank you, my lord! Thank you!”

Qian Mo didn’t look back, merely waving faintly—a clear signal.

“Tagore Desert, truly a vast desert. Now, I should find the old man, Ice Emperor Haibodong. I promised little Feifei,” Qian Mo muttered to himself, recalling his promise to Yafei and the memory of Haibodong’s cultivation sealed by Medusa.

He walked straight ahead until reaching an abandoned desert city. Uncertain if Haibodong was there, Qian Mo entered.

Wandering, he found a modest shop that appeared inhabited. Comparing it with his memories, it matched exactly—Haibodong was inside.

Qian Mo slowly pushed open the wooden door and stepped in. Inside stood an elderly man in blue robes. The old man squinted and said in a hoarse voice, “If you want to see the map, find it yourself. Bring it to me when you do.”

Qian Mo smiled faintly and approached a nearby bookshelf. He found a torn map marked with a flower-shaped symbol. Smirking, he thought, this must be the map to the Azure Lotus Hearth Fire—just like the ancient parchment depicted in the comics.

He took the map to Haibodong and asked, “Old man, I want this map. Do you have any others?”

Haibodong, writing with a pen, glanced up and narrowed his eyes coldly. “This map is not for sale! You should leave.”

Feigning ignorance, Qian Mo curiously inquired, “Old man, why won’t you sell this map? What is that flower-like symbol here?” He pointed.

Hearing the mention of the flower, Haibodong’s expression tightened, his eyes flashing with killing intent. “I said no! Leave!”

“Oh ho, this is no fun. Ice Emperor Haibodong, isn’t it? You’re so stubborn even when I speak nicely,” Qian Mo teased.

“Huh? Ice Emperor Haibodong?!” The old man’s killing intent surged. He set down his pen; the doors slammed shut. White icy crab-shaped seals spread over the walls, and the temperature plummeted. Haibodong’s voice turned cold: “Who are you? How do you know me?”

“Who am I? Of course, I’m just a tourist here!” Qian Mo winked, acting as if nothing extraordinary was happening around him, pointing to himself.

“You really think I’m an idiot! If you won’t speak, then die!” Haibodong’s face darkened as cold killing energy surrounded Qian Mo. Icy swords shaped like sculptures descended upon him.

Qian Mo stood still, smiling serenely with eyes closed.

Haibodong thought, this guy must be scared stiff.

Page (3/3)

Bang, bang, bang—

The icy swords rained down on Qian Mo.

“Hmph! All show, no substance! Serves you right!” Haibodong sneered as all the ice swords landed on the man without a single miss.

When the mist cleared, Haibodong’s eyes widened in disbelief, voice trembling: “Impossible! How is he unharmed?”

Qian Mo stood perfectly still with eyes closed, eyelashes fluttering gently. He smiled faintly and said, “How about now? Want to continue?”

Refusing to yield, Haibodong growled, “I don’t believe it. You must have some protective artifact. I won’t believe you always get lucky.” He summoned huge ice sculptures, one after another, and swung his hand, smashing them toward Qian Mo.

Qian Mo smiled faintly, standing motionless as before. This time, however, his eyes were open, calmly watching Haibodong.

As the ice sculptures enveloped Qian Mo, Haibodong caught sight of his smile and felt an inexplicable chill—a bad premonition.

Bang, bang, bang—

Haibodong stared intently, thinking, “This time, you won’t survive. Hmph! How dare you mock me, brat!”

When the mist cleared, Haibodong, smug moments before, suddenly shrank his pupils, staggering back, trembling: “No, no way! How could this be? Have I weakened again?” He looked at his hands, unwilling to accept his decline.

Qian Mo adjusted his white robe calmly. “Ice Emperor Haibodong, your power was sealed by Medusa, queen of the Snake Tribe in Tagore Desert. Since then, your name as Ice Emperor has vanished. Your Mitel family’s strength plummeted overnight because of this.”

Haibodong was genuinely frightened. The young man before him exuded overwhelming pressure. Hearing all this, his eyes reddened with bloodshot veins, voice trembling: “Who... who are you? How do you know I’m from the Mitel family? What have you done to us?”

Qian Mo casually rubbed his ear, ignoring Haibodong’s outburst. Sitting on a stone bench, he said coolly, “Old man, you need not be so hostile. If I wanted to kill you, I wouldn’t stand here waiting for your attack. After all, we share some history.” He paused. “Tell me, do you want to break Medusa’s seal and return to your peak?”

Haibodong seized on this. “Could it be you can help me break Medusa’s seal?”

Qian Mo looked at him and said, “I need information about the Fiery Flame.”

“If you can free me, I’ll hand over all information about the Fiery Flame!” Haibodong was no fool. If he gave away the information but didn’t help remove the seal, or if that young man killed him after getting the map, who would he turn to?

Qian Mo thought, Then he can meet King Yama.

“Breaking your seal isn’t difficult,” Qian Mo said, tossing over a Sixth-Rank Alchemist badge.

Haibodong caught it, eyes shrinking again, disbelief in his voice: “Sixth-Rank Alchemist?!” He glanced at the badge and then at Qian Mo’s youthful face—just in his early twenties. Could he be some ancient demon? That would explain it. Haibodong nodded slightly, unaware of Qian Mo’s true identity.

Qian Mo said, “So, Old Man Haibodong, what do you say? I help you break the seal, and you tell me all you know about the Fiery Flame.”

Haibodong took a deep breath, hesitated, then nodded. “Agreed.”

“Ha! I knew you’d see reason,” Qian Mo laughed.

See reason? If I weren’t outmatched, would I waste time talking? And a Sixth-Rank Alchemist isn’t so easily offended. If I don’t kill you, a bunch of Dou Huang and Dou Zong might come after me, shattering my Ice Emperor reputation.

“Ha ha, yes, yes,” Haibodong smiled helplessly, nodding.

Qian Mo rose and placed his hand on Haibodong’s shoulder. The old man flinched, trying to pull back, but Qian Mo said softly, “Don’t move.”

Qian Mo sent his energy into Haibodong’s body, found the seal’s source, smiled faintly, and with a thought, broke Medusa’s seal.

“Done,” Qian Mo said calmly.

Haibodong was stunned. “What... what’s done?”

“I’ve broken the Medusa seal inside you.” Qian Mo sat again, voice serene.

Haibodong nearly laughed but held it back. “Young master, you’re joking, right? You just touched my shoulder and broke the seal I’ve struggled with for years?” He shrugged, chuckling, “If that’s true, have I wasted my life?”

Qian Mo wasn’t angered, shaking his head. “You wasted those years. If you don’t believe me, try circulating your Dou Qi. Feel it for yourself.”

Hearing this, Haibodong slapped his forehead, suddenly enlightened. Of course! Circulating Dou Qi would prove it true or false. He really had wasted his years.

His old eyes narrowed. Ha! Circulate Dou Qi—

“This, this, this is—!!!” “Wahaha!!” “I, Ice Emperor Haibodong, see daylight again!!! Hahahaha!!!”

After several attempts, Haibodong confirmed the seal was broken. His Dou Ling power restored to its former peak—a Four-Star Dou Huang!

Four-Star Dou Huang! Ice Emperor Haibodong!

“Ha! Take this!” “Tornado Ice Strike! Hah!” Haibodong, like a madman, unleashed his full Four-Star Dou Huang power in an all-out strike at Qian Mo, catching him unprepared.

“Haha! Kid! You were arrogant before, but now that I’m back at my peak, let’s see how you act! Sixth-Rank Alchemist? I’ll kill you and dissect you! Your rank won’t save you!”

Qian Mo’s eyes narrowed slightly. He thought, some people never change. Now that you’re back, old man, have you lost your mind to attack me?

As Haibodong’s attack rushed forward, Qian Mo glanced at it with disdain and kicked it aside. “Go away.”

Haibodong’s eyes narrowed. He snorted coldly. “Petty tricks! I’ll show you what I can do, punk!”
