Chapter 148: Avatar - Ye Ming
Oh my god! As Chen Yun read on, his eyes grew wider and wider. No wonder this was a world-class boss—the equipment dropped was insanely powerful!
Legendary items, epic gear, epic skills—all top-tier treasures in the game, every single one included!
Unfortunately, some required appraisal to reveal their attributes, and others even demanded spending Sky Crystal Coins to unlock their stats.
Chen Yun hesitated—should he spend the money? What if the attributes turned out bad or there were usage restrictions? What if it was a waste?
"Damn it, curiosity killed the cat. I’ll spend it! Even if I can’t use it now, I’ll definitely use it eventually. Besides, I’m not who I used to be. Even if I don’t spend it, I can’t touch the money in my account, or my parents will get suspicious."
Gritting his teeth, Chen Yun silently commanded, consuming 50 Sky Crystal Coins to unlock the legendary item’s attributes!
“Legendary item attributes have been unlocked. Please check them yourself.”
Chen Yun took a deep breath and looked at his backpack.
In the next moment, his face flushed red.
And then, he fainted.
Item description: “Out-of-Body Avatar: Legendary Item, single-use. Upon use, it will consume the player’s entire current level and condense it into a life form sharing the player's soul source, possessing independent consciousness and thought. This life form will randomly inherit one of the player Chen Yun’s secondary profession skills. The avatar’s initial appearance is freely set by Chen Yun. It is 100% loyal and will never betray the player.
The player and avatar can communicate, but only with mutual consent.
The avatar’s inventory is linked to Chen Yun’s, sharing all money and items except unique items, which cannot coexist.
Experience points gained by the avatar are split evenly with Chen Yun. For example, if the avatar gains 100 XP, 50 goes to the avatar and 50 to Chen Yun.
The avatar’s professions and skills are used independently.
When the avatar dies, its level decreases by one. After 24 hours, it automatically revives at a location set by itself, but its status upon revival is random.
Unique skill attached: “Merge with Avatar.” Using this skill ignores the avatar’s location, instantly fusing the avatar and Chen Yun into one. The merged consciousness and soul belong to Chen Yun, who gains all the avatar’s strength, with levels, professions, and skills stacking. This is a one-time skill; after use, the avatar’s consciousness dissipates and it disappears permanently.”
Oh my god!
My heavens!
Chen Yun was truly amazed. This legendary item’s attributes were outrageously powerful—spending 50 Sky Crystal Coins was money well spent!
Before, after resurrecting in a borrowed body, he was free to roam and grind alone. Now, he was a student, strictly supervised at home, unable to go out hunting monsters or leveling up—only able to attend school obediently.
Now, with this item, all those problems were solved. The avatar was essentially another self—everything the main body couldn’t do, the avatar could handle. He could be a star building fame, while the avatar trained and leveled up. It was the perfect mutually beneficial arrangement!
And the skill attached was even more incredible—“Merge with Avatar,” stacking levels, professions, and skills. This was the ultimate trump card!
Just imagine: at level 100, with the avatar also at level 100, both possessing numerous professions and skills combined… Holy hell, unstoppable!
Still, Chen Yun wouldn’t use that skill unless pushed to the brink of life and death. The system made it clear—the avatar had its own consciousness and thought. It was a living being, a real person!
But what was this random status upon revival?
“Use Legendary Item ‘Out-of-Body Avatar!’” Chen Yun whispered excitedly.
---
“Legendary Item ‘Out-of-Body Avatar’ used successfully. Step one: deduct all current player levels. System detects player Chen Yun’s current level as initial level 1, cannot deduct. Proceeding to step two: please set the avatar’s appearance.”
Chen Yun laughed heartily upon hearing this. The biggest drawback of this item was that it deducted all player levels. Luckily, Chen Yun was only level one, so there was nothing to deduct. Otherwise, if he were at a high level, losing it all at once would be devastating.
“Since it’s a new life, it can’t look like the original body or myself,” Chen Yun pondered. “Then... you it is, 18-year-old Ye Ming! You’ve taken so many hits for me; I’ll give you a chance at fortune. Let’s reach the peak of life together!”
“Avatar appearance set: 18-year-old Ye Ming. Avatar Ye Ming randomly acquired Chen Yun’s secondary profession skill—Intermediate Culinary Knife Skills.”
A golden light flashed in Chen Yun’s bedroom, and Ye Ming appeared clad in novice cloth clothes and shoes, arriving in this world.
“Master, Ye Ming reporting,” Ye Ming bowed slightly to Chen Yun.
“Good. From now on, you’re my brother. In the author’s previous book, you were censored and erased,” Chen Yun said excitedly. “But here, the two of us, one with words and one with weapons, will shake the world!”
“Your command is my purpose, Master,” Ye Ming bowed again.
“Don’t call me Master anymore. Since you have your own consciousness and thoughts, you’re a true person. We’re equals. I’ll call you little brother; you call me big brother.”
“Alright, big brother,” Ye Ming said, his eyes shining with gratitude.
Chen Yun was right—Ye Ming had his own mind and spirit, a complete living being. Chen Yun’s respect deeply moved him.
“I’m tied down at home and can’t freely go out to level up. From now on, you’ll handle the leveling. I know how hard it is, so thank you,” Ye Ming said.
“Big brother, no need for formalities. I was created by you; your matters are mine. I’ll work hard to reach level 100 soon, so we can visit your hometown together,” Ye Ming smiled.
“You can read my memories?” Chen Yun was surprised.
“We share the same soul source. Everything you’ve experienced, I know. Likewise, you’ll know everything about me,” Ye Ming explained.
“That’s true; we’re really just one person,” Chen Yun nodded. “Let’s act separately for now—each do our own thing. Don’t join up unless absolutely sure. Especially you; be careful. I piled a lot of trouble on you before, and the authorities are hunting you everywhere.”
“Don’t worry, big brother. I’ll dress down and stay low-key. No one will find me,” Ye Ming smiled.
“Alright, that’s settled. By the way, how will you get out?”
“There’s always someone home. I’ll hide under your bed and sneak out after your parents fall asleep,” Ye Ming said thoughtfully.
“Sorry to trouble you. I’m worthless at home and can’t help,” Chen Yun said regretfully.
“I believe your talents will soon change their minds,” Ye Ming encouraged.
“Definitely. I’ll make them see me differently,” Chen Yun said, clenching his fist.
“I’m going under the bed now to think about career planning and the best leveling strategy.”
“Okay. I won’t interfere with your progress. Let’s work hard together!”
After their heartfelt conversation, Chen Yun turned his attention to other items.
“Legendary items are insanely powerful. This epic skill book must be earth-shattering too. But it needs appraisal to see its attributes... Where can I get it appraised? I’ll put it aside for now,” Chen Yun muttered, resting his chin on his hand. “The matching ring can’t be used yet either. No level restriction, but it requires two people to use. Obviously a wedding ring—keep it for my future wife. As for the time-reversal talisman... hmm, keep it safe. Used at the right moment, it’s as powerful as a divine artifact. The puppet pill is too evil; recycle it!”
“System detected this item is excessively evil. Upon recycling, it will be destroyed permanently. Recycling price zero. Confirm recycling?”
---
Price zero?
Chen Yun paused but didn’t hesitate. “Yes!”
He had no idea what kind of deranged person created such a thing. Leaving it in the world was dangerous. Even paying to destroy it was worth it!
“Currently usable items: only the small experience pills. Each will increase level by 1 to 5. This is a roll of the dice. Please, heavens, grant me a few level-ups,” Chen Yun clasped his hands, silently using the pills.
“Player Chen Yun used Small Experience Pill. Level +1.”
Damn, after all this, only one level up? Again!
“Player Chen Yun used Small Experience Pill. Level +1.”
Chen Yun spat blood. His luck had been decent before. Could changing bodies have worsened it?
“Damn it, I refuse to believe this. One more!”
“Player Chen Yun used Small Experience Pill. Level +2.”
“Player Chen Yun reached level 5. Driving skill level 2 unlocked.”
Three pills brought Chen Yun to level 5. He was frustrated beyond words—this body’s luck was almost zero!
...
After a while, Chen Yun calmed down and looked at the high school textbooks on his desk.
“Though my intelligence attribute meets the requirement, I’m only level 5 now. Forget reading high school textbooks—they probably won’t even open properly.”
He muttered, picking up a high school Chinese textbook. To his surprise, it opened easily.
Chen Yun was stunned. This was an intermediate skill book requiring level 20 and intelligence 15 to use, but he had neither!
Could it be...
His eyes lit up. Among the 5,000 books he bought were these school textbooks. The system only restricted increases to intelligence and spirit attributes, not the content he could learn.
With this in mind, Chen Yun randomly opened a high school English book and pictured page 20 in his mind. Instantly, the entire page appeared clearly, every punctuation mark memorized perfectly!
Awesome!
“Damn it! I endured so much scorn for poor grades as a kid. This time, I’m going to slap all their faces—hard!”
At midnight, Chen Yun slept soundly. His parents were also asleep. A figure crawled out from under Chen Yun’s bed, quietly left the Chen household, stepping into this world. Alongside Chen Yun’s avatar, Huang Ye, they began their new life and mission!
