"Sir, the toxin levels here are zero," the female commando, Rain, said after checking her instrument. "I believe there might still be survivors."

"Good. Everyone, search the area, but don't stray too far," James commanded, scanning the surroundings.

Seeing Alice staring through a window on a large pillar, Chen Yun slowly approached her and asked, "What's in there?"

"I don't know, but it doesn't look like anything good," Alice replied, shaking her head.

"I said, stay close, everyone," James's voice suddenly rang out nearby.

Chen Yun nodded with a smile but said nothing.

"I'm sorry. I'm not entirely sure if I can recall anything about this place," Alice said. She had faint, fragmented memories, but they were chaotic and lacked context.

"I don't blame you," James said. "This place is eerie; be careful."

"You two stay here. JD, you and Lucy keep an eye on them. The rest of you, along with Alice, come with me to retrieve the Red Queen's core chip," James said after searching for a while, checking his watch.

They were going for the chip!

Thinking of the danger Alice would face in the upcoming scene, Chen Yun quickly interjected, "Let me go with you. I might be able to help."

"Fine," James nodded. In his eyes, Chen Yun was just a kid and posed no threat.

Chen Yun, Alice, and Spence Parks followed the commando team to the entrance of the laser corridor, the only path to the Red Queen. Captain James reached the end of the corridor and attached a transmitter to the door of the Red Queen's chip chamber.

"Transmitter in position."

"Copy that. Initiating decryption," Chad Kaplan said over the comms.

According to the plot, once the decryption finished, James and several commandos would be slaughtered by the lasers in the hallway.

Chen Yun couldn't sit by. This commando team was highly skilled and could be crucial in helping him complete his mission; he didn't want them wiped out so early.

"Um... I have something to say, if you don't mind," Chen Yun said loudly.

James, at the end of the laser corridor, turned his head toward Chen Yun. "Speak."

Looking at the laser corridor, which the system had flagged as a "Level 6 offensive mechanism, attack power 999-999, sustained attack," Chen Yun felt his scalp tingle. "Where exactly is this?"

"This is the only path to the Red Queen's control core in the Hive. Is there a problem?" James, unfazed by what he perceived as a foolish question, said impatiently.

"Right. Since this is the only way to the Red Queen, I don't believe she wouldn't have set up some kind of defensive measures here," Chen Yun suggested cautiously.

James frowned, looking at the smooth, glass-walled corridor.

"The walls are smooth. I don't see how any defensive weapon system could be hidden here," James remarked after a moment.

"True, solid weapons couldn't be hidden, but what about non-physical ones?" Chen Yun prodded. "I remember reading a report once about a mirror-laser defense grid. All four walls are mirrored, and the laser reflects multiple times to form a grid that slices through anything."

James's eyes widened. Although he hadn't heard the term, he realized instantly that it was a lethal weapon. If such a defense existed, his fate...

A chill ran down his spine at the thought of becoming a pile of minced meat, and he quickly scrambled out.

"So, how do we get in?" asked the team medic, Liz Mae Bryce. "This is the only way; there's no bypassing it."

"That's easy. The lasers are powered by electricity. We just need to shut down the power to this corridor. Let me try." Chad Kaplan, who was hacking the Red Queen's defense system, typed rapidly on his keyboard. In moments, the lights in the glass corridor went out. "Done. The power will be cut for five minutes."

"Good, let's move," James said, stepping into the glass corridor with relief.

From the moment the entire team entered the Red Queen's room, Chen Yun knew the plot of *Resident Evil* had been altered by his presence. He was like a butterfly flapping its wings in the Pacific; a small action could trigger a massive storm.

Chad Kaplan installed the pulse generator on the Red Queen's mainframe and initiated the program. Instantly, the power to the entire Hive was cut.

"Okay, this pulse will force the circuit breakers to shut down the mainframe for thirty seconds. After that, if I haven't found her core motherboard, she'll reboot," Chad said, pulling out the motherboard. "Look, this is the Red Queen's core. It's huge."

"Time is running out. We have the motherboard. Let's meet up with Lucy and the others and retreat," James said after Chad stowed the board in his pack.

*Bang!*

As they were returning to the B-Dining area, they suddenly heard gunfire from within!

"Contact! Everyone, stay alert!" James raised his weapon the instant he heard the shots.

Chen Yun stayed close to Alice, took out a few vials of primary health recovery potion, and handed them to her. "Take these. They could save your life in an emergency."

Alice looked suspiciously at the small red vials, then at Chen Yun's sincere expression. She smiled and took them. "Are you a doctor?"

"I don't really know what I am, but I know these can save lives," Chen Yun replied vaguely.

"Alright, thank you. If anything happens, stay behind me. I'll protect you," Alice said.

"Uh... thanks." Chen Yun felt dejected; barred from combat roles by the system, he was likely the weakest person here.

Arriving at the B-Dining area, James asked, "What was that gunfire?"

"We ran into a survivor," Lucy said.

"Did you kill her?" James frowned.

"She was completely insane. She actually bit me," Lucy said, bandaging the wound on her hand.

"You were bitten?" Chen Yun was shocked. He hadn't expected Lucy to be infected here; he only vaguely remembered her turning on the train and being put down.

"Yes, I was bitten. Are you happy about that?" Lucy glared at him coldly.

"Uh... no," Chen Yun rubbed his nose. "Where is that person now?"

"She's gone! She's gone!" JD shouted.

"Nonsense," Lucy said, walking over.

"She was lying right there, but she's gone!" JD insisted, his expression one of pure disbelief.
