Chapter 69: Terrifying Lethality
A sudden gush of blood poured from Chen Yun, pooling at his feet.
“Player Chen Yun has been struck by the Evil NPC Assassin ‘Author Couldn’t Think of a Name 09’s’ Chain Assassination skill and has lost 600 HP.”
Another wave of blood, even greater, spilled out from Chen Yun.
...
“Player Chen Yun has been struck by the Evil NPC Assassin ‘Author Couldn’t Think of a Name 09’s’ Chain Assassination skill and has lost 1400 HP.”
Yet again, an even larger torrent of blood burst from Chen Yun.
In the blink of an eye, Chen Yun endured six consecutive attacks, his health dropping by 5400 points! The blood that gushed forth instantly drenched the attacking assassin's lackey, turning him into a veritable “blood man.”
Chen Yun was scared out of his wits; this chain assassination skill was terrifying—each attack hit harder than the last and came with blinding speed!
“Sword Control Technique!” Chen Yun retaliated quickly, activating his skill.
“Target is in stealth. Sword Control Technique cannot locate the target. Action invalid!”
Damn it!
Chen Yun was stunned. He couldn’t find the target? What kind of joke was this? The guy had already turned into a lump of blood—anyone with eyes could see him, yet the system insisted the target couldn’t be found?
Before Chen Yun could dwell on it, another wave of attack notifications appeared.
“Player Chen Yun has been struck by the Evil NPC Assassin ‘Author Couldn’t Think of a Name 10’s’ Lunge skill, losing 500 HP.”
“Player Chen Yun has been struck by the Evil NPC Assassin ‘Author Couldn’t Think of a Name 11’s’ Backstab skill, losing 700 HP.”
“Player Chen Yun has been struck by the Evil NPC Assassin ‘Author Couldn’t Think of a Name 12’s’ Smash skill, losing 1000 HP.”
“Player Chen Yun has been struck by the Evil NPC Assassin Leader’s Deadly Execution skill, losing 8500 HP.”
With the leader’s final, lethal attack, Chen Yun’s health was reduced to a mere 19 points. He was like a breached dam, blood jetting out in torrents, instantly flooding and submerging the assassins and their leader!
“System prompt: Player Chen Yun’s health is below 1%, in critical condition. All attributes reduced by 99%. Please replenish health immediately!”
Damn!
Chen Yun, half-dead with fright, quickly took out a full-recovery potion and swallowed it. His health instantly rebounded to 30%. He transformed into Li Xiaoyao’s form, soared into the sky with Sword Control Cloud Flight.
“Player Chen Yun’s critical condition has been lifted. Attributes restored to normal…”
Phew… The system notification made Chen Yun breathe a huge sigh of relief. That was close—he’d almost died.
The assassin leader harbored deep hatred for the one who had ruined his mission. All that talk about having the target was nonsense—he’d already received word that Mayor Shen Qiang had left the hotel and gone home!
From the moment Chen Yun entered the seaside park, the assassin leader had noticed him but hadn’t been sure whether he was the one who’d taken the deputy leader hostage. He attacked only to prevent interference, but now he was certain—this was the one who’d rescued the target and captured his deputy.
After all, the man had transformed in the blink of an eye:
Long, flowing hair.
A longsword in hand.
Clad in a green robe.
Just like many eccentric members of the organization, he liked to stand out with his appearance.
With the target confirmed and no sign of the deputy leader, the assassin leader was certain his deputy was as good as dead, most likely killed by this man.
With that, there was nothing left to consider. Kill him, then find another way to complete the organization’s mission.
For the most part, things had gone as the leader expected: Chen Yun had killed the deputy and saved the mayor. But what he hadn’t counted on was that his elite operatives, even with a chain assassination technique, couldn’t finish Chen Yun off. Still, what truly defied belief was that, in all his years as an assassin, he’d never seen anyone bleed like this!
They say when you kill a man, the blade goes in white, comes out red. But with this guy, that saying didn’t do him justice—it should be, “Blade goes in white, a whole vat of blood pours out!”
And yet, this was only the beginning. When the assassin leader joined the fray himself, he finally understood the true meaning of unbelievable. How could a man weighing just over a hundred pounds spout thousands of pounds of blood? This was absurd! Had he robbed a blood bank?
Wiping the blood from his eyes, the leader and his remaining lackeys stared dumbfounded—where was he? Where had he gone? Had their many attacks not killed him?
“L-leader, l-look up...at the sky...” one of the assassins stammered.
The sky? What about the sky?
They all looked up—and nearly fainted.
That kid wasn’t just alive, he was flying!
“Heavenly Sword Art!” Chen Yun, seeing the bewildered, blood-soaked assassins below, unleashed his skill.
“Target is in stealth. Heavenly Sword Art cannot locate the target. Action invalid!”
Damn it! Chen Yun was on the verge of madness. Stealth? What eyes did the system have to see them in stealth? They were all drenched in blood, but the system claimed they were hidden? Did the game designers have lower IQs than him?
Fine, if the skill couldn’t find them, he would—he’d just ride his sword and skewer them himself!
While the assassins were still stunned, Chen Yun charged at a group of lackeys, sword beneath his feet. Their stats were similar to the ones he’d already slain—one attack each was all it took. As for the leader, he could wait; once the lackeys were down, the leader, soaked in blood, wouldn’t escape either. Tonight, none of them would get away!
The speed of the Sword Control Technique was terrifying. In a flash, the four lackeys clustered together were sent flying over a hundred meters by the tremendous impact, damage values of over 5000+ rising above their heads. Survival was impossible.
Hearing the system confirmation that the lackeys were dead, Chen Yun used his Scan skill on the assassin leader.
“Boss-level NPC: Da Long. Race: Human. Class: Assassin. Faction: Death’s Society. Level: 30. Attack: 1200. Defense: 600. HP: 4000 (Assassins in the game typically have high attack, low HP, and low defense). Strength: 400. Constitution: 80. Intelligence: 90. Agility: 320... Mana: 500. Skills: Stealth, Mass Stealth, Haste, Poison, Deadly Execution... Current status: Under Mass Stealth. Stealth time remaining: 26 seconds...”
Oh! Seeing the boss’s stats, Chen Yun suddenly understood. No wonder his skills couldn’t find the target—this Mass Stealth skill was at fault. It sounded incredibly powerful. With over twenty seconds left, he didn’t rush; he simply hovered on his sword, eyes fixed on the boss.
“Who are you, really? How can you fly?” the leader called out, clearly shaken by Chen Yun’s flight. In his organization, Death’s Society, only the founder—Death himself—and the three elders could fly. Across the entire football-shaped world, only a few hundred could achieve flight, and fewer than twenty could control a sword to attack while flying!
