“Old Wang, what are you doing? What did this child do to offend you that you’d strike him so hard?” A man at a nearby table couldn’t stand it any longer. He slammed the table and shouted at Wang Dana.

“Exactly! Just look at all the blood on the ground—there must be at least several hundred milliliters. Wang Dana, I always thought you were someone who valued loyalty and friendship. I never imagined you’d be capable of attacking a child. Doesn’t your conscience hurt?”

“I can’t do business with you anymore. I’m canceling that order for a thousand pounds of potatoes. Sell them to whoever you want. If I keep dealing with you, maybe one day you’ll slap me to death just like this kid.”

“I... I didn’t do anything! I just gave the kid a pat, and he suddenly collapsed and started vomiting blood. When I saw that, I hurried to pull him up, and then this happened. I swear I didn't do anything!” Wang Dana, beset by everyone’s accusations, was on the verge of madness. What did I do to deserve this? I just came here for a meal. I only patted the kid to encourage him, and now it’s ended in tragedy? I’m not that strong, am I?

“Move aside, everyone, move aside!” The restaurant owner rushed over. When he saw Chen Yun lying motionless in a pool of blood, he turned pale with fright.

“What’s going on?” Hearing the commotion from the kitchen, Hu Daniu ran out gripping a kitchen knife. The moment he saw Chen Yun’s ghastly condition, his eyes went red. The boy had good character and even called him ‘master’—Hu Daniu had already started treating Chen Yun as a disciple. Who would have thought that after just a brief separation, his disciple would—would die!

“Who killed my disciple? Was it you? Or you?” Hu Daniu raised the kitchen knife, eyes burning with fury as he swept his gaze around the room. When his eyes landed on the ashen-faced Wang Dana, he roared, “Was it you who killed my disciple?”

“It wasn’t me, really, it wasn’t! How could I kill someone? Haha, I killed someone, I actually killed someone, ah!” Wang Dana’s face twisted with agitation, his nerves completely shattered; his eyes rolled back—and he fainted dead away.

Looking at the ‘deceased’ Chen Yun and the newly unconscious ‘murderer’ Wang Dana, everyone was at a loss. What were they supposed to do now?

“Disciple, how did your life end up so wretched? Your parents were slain by bullies, and now you’re gone too. Who am I to pass my culinary skills on to?” Seeing the supposed murderer collapse, Hu Daniu dropped his knife, slumped to the floor, and, uncaring of the blood, clutched Chen Yun’s ‘corpse’ and wept bitterly. Though he’d only known Chen Yun briefly, feelings can’t be measured by time alone.

“Quick, call the police. Let them handle it.” After a while, one of the patrons found his voice.

“Yes, hurry and call the police—it’s a fatality!” The crowd scrambled to fish out their phones.

“Hey! Wait a second!” The restaurant owner suddenly shouted, “I just saw his hand move!”

“How could that be? He’s dead—how could his hand move? You must be seeing things.” The patron who spoke kept his eyes on Chen Yun’s hand, doubtful—until suddenly, his eyes widened. “Oh my God! His hand did move!”

“Player Chen Yun’s health is restored to 20. Severe injury removed. Unconsciousness removed.”

Emerging from his severe injuries and regaining consciousness, Chen Yun opened his eyes to see his master, Hu Daniu, weeping uncontrollably. He was bewildered. What was going on? Why was Master here?

“Heaven above, he’s awake! The kid’s come back to life!”

“Incredible! He was dead, but now he’s alive again!”

“I think he wasn’t dead—probably just unconscious.”

“Of course he wasn’t dead. How could a dead man move his hand?”

Seeing Chen Yun open his eyes, the onlookers grew agitated, breaking into heated discussion.

Hu Daniu stared in disbelief, then his face lit up with joy. “Disciple, you’re alive! Thank goodness. Don’t move—I’m taking you to the hospital right now!” With that, Hu Daniu tried to scoop Chen Yun up and carry him outside.

“No!” Chen Yun hurried to stop his master. He had no money and no identity. He couldn’t even register at the hospital, and besides, there was no need—he’d recover his lost health just by eating a meal.

“How could you say no? You’ve vomited so much blood. If you don’t get checked and treated at the hospital, I won’t be at ease. It’s settled!” Hu Daniu stood firm.

“Master, I have an illness—a blood vomiting condition!” Seeing how insistent Hu Daniu was, Chen Yun had no choice but to label himself with a disease.

A blood vomiting condition? What kind of illness is that? Hu Daniu was taken aback, as were the others. None of them had ever heard of such a thing.

“I don’t know what it’s called in medical terms, but I call it the blood vomiting condition. Any time I’m struck hard, I vomit blood. I just need a meal to recover—I’m used to it. Master, no need to worry,” Chen Yun made up on the spot.

Everyone exchanged glances. Truly, today had been eye-opening. People always said there were plenty of strange diseases in the world, and today, they had encountered one.

“I see. Well, alright. But I still recommend you go to the hospital. After what happened today, you shouldn’t work anymore. Go rest in my room,” Hu Daniu said, nodding.

The restaurant owner, seeing Chen Yun revive, let out a long sigh of relief. As long as no one died, the business could go on. If there really had been a death, no one would dare eat at a restaurant with a fatality.

“Everyone, please sit down. Xiao Chen, go rest in the back room. Old Hu, get back to work,” the restaurant owner said as he cleaned up the blood.

After a flurry of activity, the restaurant returned to order. Despite insisting on helping, Chen Yun was firmly pushed back into the room by Master Hu and told to rest well.

Lying on the bed, Chen Yun’s thoughts ran wild. He thought of his happy life back on Earth before he crossed over, and then of the hardships he now faced in this new world. He couldn’t help but sigh deeply.

“I wonder if I’ll ever be able to return to Earth in this lifetime. That’s where my true home is,” Chen Yun murmured. “My parents, my wife, my son and daughter—will I ever see you again?”

“Player Chen Yun has triggered the main quest. Within ten years, the player must reach level 100 and gain 100 million fame points. Quest reward: return home, Earth—unlimited portal access.”

The system’s notification made Chen Yun’s eyes widen in shock.

Dear heavens, what did I just hear? A main quest? And the reward is to go home?!

Chen Yun sprang from the bed and began pacing the room in excitement. His initial plan had been to rely on the system just to survive in this strange world, never expecting such a tremendous surprise. So long as he reached level 100 and amassed 100 million fame points within ten years, he could return home. Chen Yun was instantly filled with determination. Since the system had given him hope and a goal, he would work toward it with all his might—he would fight to go home!

Reaching level 100… Though Chen Yun had no idea how to level up yet, he knew that, given the system’s notorious stinginess, it certainly wouldn’t be easy.

A hundred million fame points… Just seeing that long string of zeros made Chen Yun’s head spin.

But so what? Nothing could stop his determination to return home—not even the Big Player System that had brought him to this world!
