Chapter 89: Astonishing Everyone
As soon as Chen Yun snapped back to reality, he cursed inwardly. Damn, he needed to focus on the task at hand! This transformation had a time limit—if he couldn’t kill these two snakes within three minutes, he’d be done for.
Wang gaped at the figure before him—the only word that came to mind was “Ultraman.” Even standing upright, he was only a dozen or so meters tall, but this guy must be over fifty meters! Could Chen Yun have been sent by the Empire of the Rising Sun? No, that couldn’t be; he’d never heard of them having an Ultraman. Wasn’t Ultraman just a cartoon character? How could he appear in real life?
“Wow! Ultraman! Giant snakes!” The little boy, seeing the scene after the flash of white light, showed not a hint of fear. On the contrary, he was thrilled and shouted, “Dad, look! It’s Ultraman! Ultraman is here to fight monsters!”
The boy’s father stood there, dumbfounded from the moment Ultraman appeared. This was far beyond anything his mind could process. His son loved Ultraman, so he knew a little about the series, but never in his wildest dreams had he thought he’d see Ultraman—once confined to cartoons—materialize in reality, right before his very eyes.
“Heavens, how can this be possible!” The passersby were losing their minds. The scene before them had shattered their entire worldview. Ultraman had appeared here—was this the end of the world?
Transformed, Chen Yun now looked exactly like Ultraman, standing fifty-three meters tall and weighing forty-four thousand tons. As for strength, well... he probably didn’t possess even one percent of the real Ultraman’s power. Yet even that one percent was more than enough to crush these two snakes. Now, in Chen Yun’s eyes, the two giant serpents—dozens of meters long and several meters thick—were nothing more than little snakes. Grabbing one in each hand, he smashed their heads together, and two huge red numbers appeared: -13,548 and -14,875! (With 500 times Chen Yun’s attribute bonus.)
Chen Yun thought that blow would finish them off, but to his surprise, the snakes were tough and lunged at him, jaws wide. But could he let them bite him? Not a chance. Releasing his grip, he seized both snakes by their tails and slammed them hard onto the empty road, left and right, thoroughly enjoying himself.
“Damn you for kidnapping me, for bullying me when I couldn’t fight back. I’m not letting you two little worms off so easily,” Chen Yun muttered as he smashed them down, massive damage numbers appearing: -14,584, -14,578, -13,487...
“Stop! If you keep this up, I’ll die!” Wang screamed in agony. In Chen Yun’s hands, he was utterly powerless, dizzy and battered from the constant slamming. Seizing a brief lull, he shouted, “Stop! I surrender, I surrender!”
“Wow! Dad, that monster can talk!” The little boy, now carried far away in his father’s arms, exclaimed in excitement, “A talking monster must be super powerful, right?”
“...” Powerful indeed—his father’s face was scrunched up in utter confusion. He had no idea how to answer. Today’s events had already obliterated his understanding of the world. Ultraman from the Empire of the Rising Sun had appeared in the Sky Dragon Empire, and right before his eyes no less. Not even a madman would come up with such a scenario, let alone witness it firsthand.
Surrender? Chen Yun smiled but said nothing. In this Ultraman form, he couldn’t speak, and he certainly didn’t intend to let these two foreign-backed giant snakes go. He continued to slam them without haste, still relishing the process.
“Warning, warning: Player Chen Yun, Ultraman transformation time remaining—thirty seconds.”
With the system’s voice ringing in his ears, the warning light on Chen Yun’s chest began to flash red.
“Whoa, whoa, whoa—the red light’s on! Ultraman’s about to unleash his ultimate move!” the boy shouted excitedly again. “Zepellion Beam—fire!”
Time was almost up? Chen Yun paused, noticing the snakes still had a tenth of their health left. He picked up the pace, slamming them even harder.
While Chen Yun was having the time of his life smashing the snakes, things elsewhere were growing more chaotic.
In the town’s police station—
“Hello, this is the police dispatch service center.”
“Officer, I just saw Ultraman!”
The officer answering the call froze for a second. “Sorry, could you repeat that?”
“I said I saw Ultraman! Ultraman!” the caller’s voice was frantic. “Right here at the Dayday Entertainment Club! Ultraman is fighting monsters!”
“...” The officer was speechless. What kind of lunatic was this? Watching too many cartoons, clearly. Ultraman fighting monsters at Dayday? Why not say Ultraman and the Transformers were having drinks at the bar?
“Sorry, this is the police service center. Please don’t make jokes like that. If you have nothing else, I’m hanging up,” the officer said, a little annoyed. He fielded hundreds of calls a day, and about ten percent were prank calls with all sorts of bizarre stories, but this was the first time anyone had claimed Ultraman was fighting monsters.
“What the hell, you don’t believe me? You really don’t believe me? If you don’t, just look in the direction of the Dayday Club right now. If I’m lying, I’ll call you Grandpa!” The caller, furious, hung up.
The officer was baffled. What did he mean, look toward Dayday?
He hung up, pushed open the door, and glanced in that direction—his heart rate instantly shot up to 130!
My God, what was that colossal thing? Why did it look so familiar?
He rubbed his eyes and took a closer look. Damn it, wasn’t that Ultraman from the Empire of the Rising Sun’s cartoons?
“Chief, something big is happening! Ultraman is fighting monsters in our town!”
...
Inside the command hall of the empire’s relevant departments. (With the current climate, even though this is a fictional story, better safe than sorry. I’ll just gloss over the empire’s departments here, since if I don’t mention them, readers will definitely call me an idiot—Ultraman’s appeared, and the authorities don’t notice?)
Clang! Xiao Liu’s eyes went wide. He was so stunned, his cup fell to the floor and he didn’t even notice.
“Xiao Liu, what’s wrong? You dropped your cup,” his colleague Cao Xiu came over to pick it up for him. Out of the corner of her eye, she glanced at Xiao Liu’s monitor, and her own cup slipped from her hand a second time.
“Hey, you two bored or just playing catch with cups?” The repeated clattering caught the attention of Gu Jie, the deputy director of the department in the command hall.
“No, sir, please come take a look. I don’t even know how to explain it,” Xiao Liu said, face twisted with disbelief.
“What could you possibly have seen that you can’t explain? Let me see.” Deputy Director Gu came over and glanced at the screen—then immediately grew angry. “Xiao Liu, how dare you watch Ultraman cartoons on the job?”
