Chapter 96: Of Course I Am Happy to See You
People are funny creatures; sometimes, they just love to make things difficult for themselves. They tend to value expensive things more while becoming suspicious of anything that comes too cheap.
Qi Yue was genuinely hesitant. She feared that Bai Chuwei’s medicine might ruin her eyes, so she couldn't bring herself to commit. After all, those who had sought treatment from Bai Chuwei over the past few days were mostly driven by curiosity, suffering from nothing more than minor ailments like menstrual cramps. To verify if Bai Chuwei’s methods actually worked for those conditions, one would have to wait until the next cycle to find out. Naturally, Qi Yue was worried.
Bai Chuwei stood up and stretched lazily. "I’ve given you the prescription. Whether you believe it or not is your business. Anyway, I’m off to class."
She strolled back to the classroom, where the Chinese teacher, Li Juan, was busy lecturing with great fervor. Bai Chuwei didn't even look up. Every now and then, she would take the two-hundred-year-old wild ginseng out of her desk drawer just to catch a whiff—it smelled divine, absolutely divine!
Sitting beside her, Duan Xingye wore a complicated expression. The fact that Di Zongping had been unable to find her lately definitely had something to do with the "Ancestor." Watching her sniff the ginseng, he couldn't help but whisper, "Weiwei, my fourth uncle is coming to see you today."
Bai Chuwei’s gaze shifted away from the ginseng instantly, her eyes fixed on him.
Really?
That man was someone who tempted her even more than a two-hundred-year-old wild ginseng. Bai Chuwei was filled with anticipation. When school finally ended, she saw a low-profile, luxurious black car parked under the old locust tree just outside the campus gates. She rushed over immediately and saw him sitting in the driver’s seat, dressed in a crisp suit. His left hand, adorned with sandalwood prayer beads, rested casually on the steering wheel, radiating an effortless grace.
As soon as she got into the car, Bai Chuwei took a deep breath and couldn't help but exclaim, "You smell so good!"
It was addictive, like a drug.
Duan Feihan’s temple twitched slightly. He nodded and said, "I heard you were still looking for medicinal herbs, so I brought you the wild ginseng, glossy ganoderma, and snow lotus from the Duan family’s private collection."
Bai Chuwei stared at him, her gaze direct and unmasked, before she suddenly chuckled. "You misunderstood. I meant that you smell good."
Duan Feihan was silent. He genuinely suspected that one day she might just say something even more provocative.
However, she never turned down a good thing, and she was clearly delighted by the stash of medicinal herbs filling his trunk. Catching a glimpse of the young girl’s radiant expression—her long, slender legs dangling and swaying with excitement—he felt his lips curl into a smile. "So happy?"
Bai Chuwei’s beautiful eyes sparkled, her tone teasing. "Of course I’m happy to see you."
The man’s eyes darkened, as if deep currents were churning within them. He turned his gaze back to the road and started the engine to drive her home.
The car stopped not far from the Bai family villa. Bai Chuwei looked straight ahead and asked, "You didn't just come to see me to deliver herbs, did you, Hanhan?"
Duan Feihan looked at her smiling face and lowered his gaze. "My father has almost fully recovered."
During the hospital check-up yesterday, the cancer cells that had spread throughout his body had receded significantly. The attending physician had practically begged the old man not to leave, desperate to understand how such a miracle could happen. After all, to them, it was terrifying that someone who had been on the verge of death was suddenly full of life again.
Bai Chuwei nodded in understanding. Liu Zhen called her daily to report on the old man’s condition, and she had expected him to recover within these few days.
"So, the Duan family is planning to hold a recovery banquet in a few days."
Bai Chuwei’s eyes crinkled with a smile. "So, Hanhan, are you here to give me an invitation to the banquet?"
Duan Feihan’s magnetic voice was low and smooth, like a flowing stream. "To attend the banquet, you don't need an invitation."
She was, after all, the only person in all of Haicheng who could enter without one.
