The old master had lived his entire life with thrift and diligence, always disapproving of extravagance within the family. Upon hearing that Bai Chuwei was dissatisfied even with a ten-thousand-yuan phone, Grandfather was sure to think poorly of her!

Bai Yinyin looked expectantly at Bai Guofu. The old man’s white whiskers quivered at his lips, and his eyes went wide with sudden anger.

“Yinyin, what’s wrong with you, child? Since the ancestor isn’t pleased with a 256GB phone, isn’t there a 512GB version now? Get the best one for the ancestor!” Bai Guofu declared at once. “Fifteen thousand isn’t enough? Will twenty thousand buy it?”

The smile froze on Bai Yinyin’s face, then vanished altogether.

Was her grandfather out of his mind?

Bai Yinyin’s throat felt as though something were choking her, and she couldn’t utter a word.

Meanwhile, Bai Chuwei looked perfectly composed. She picked up her backpack hanging on the back of the chair and headed outside.

Bai Yinyin had lost her appetite for breakfast. She grabbed her schoolbag and hurried after Bai Chuwei.

Though the Bai family wasn’t among the city’s wealthiest, they were still a prestigious household in Haicheng. Bai Yinyin was always chauffeured to and from school, and today the driver was to take both girls together.

Bai Chuwei and Bai Yinyin sat in the back of the car, each leaning against a window, keeping a wide distance between them.

Bai Yinyin said, “Which class are you in? If you’re in mine, don’t you dare say you’re from the Bai family.”

Bai Chuwei smiled faintly and replied, “Senior Three, Class Nine.”

Bai Yinyin nearly jumped out of her seat, her voice rising sharply. “Class Nine? That’s the class of Duan Xingye and Xu Xingchen! You can’t just join Class Nine as you please. Did you take the entrance exam? Scored well?”

Even she herself had only made it into Class Eleven!

Bai Chuwei shook her head. “No. Bai Guofu arranged it for me.”

Hearing this, Bai Yinyin was so furious her nose nearly twisted out of shape. Wasn’t Grandfather being too kind to this illegitimate granddaughter? He’d actually pulled strings at the school to get Bai Chuwei into Class Nine! She’d never enjoyed such privilege herself.

At once, a sense of crisis overwhelmed Bai Yinyin. From the corner of her eye, she caught sight of Bai Chuwei’s brocade spring jacket and ground her teeth in frustration.

The car soon pulled up near Henghua First High School. Uniformed students were chatting and laughing as they headed toward the campus.

Bai Yinyin immediately ordered the driver to stop and turned to threaten Bai Chuwei, “I’ll get out and enter the school first. You wait five minutes before following.”

She didn’t want anyone seeing the two of them together.

There were many beautiful girls at Henghua First High, but Bai Chuwei was not just beautiful—her ethereal presence set her apart!

If she walked beside Bai Chuwei, she would certainly fade into the background.

Bai Chuwei looked indifferent as Bai Yinyin slung on her backpack, stumbled out of the car, and hurried awkwardly toward the school gates, trying her best not to be noticed.

Through the window, Bai Chuwei saw classmates on the street greeting Bai Yinyin with smiles.

“Yinyin, why do you seem unhappy today?”

As Bai Yinyin was plotting to tarnish Bai Chuwei’s reputation, a faint ripping sound suddenly caught her ear.

Her white school uniform burst at the seams all at once, threads snapping and fabric falling to pieces on the ground. Even her shirt failed to hold, exposing the lace lingerie beneath...

“Ah—my clothes!!” Bai Yinyin shrieked, covering herself. The passing students stared in shock, and a few unsavory boys even pulled out their phones...

Bai Chuwei stroked her chin with interest as she watched the spectacle, checked the time, and got out of the car.

Just as Bai Yinyin huddled in embarrassment, wrapping herself in a sweaty jacket a boy had just taken off, Bai Chuwei walked past her without a glance.
