Chapter 83: Father Xie’s Life-Saving Grace!
Bai Chuwei laughed, "Go ahead, kowtow, I can handle it."
Duang Xingye felt a bit embarrassed—so many people were watching outside, wasn't this inappropriate?
Duang Feihan spoke indifferently, "I'll keep track for you."
As they spoke, the shrill sound of police sirens rushed in from afar. The police had received a case of students suspected of jumping from a building in a suicide pact and immediately dispatched officers.
Seeing the two lively figures, the police were dumbfounded. They had expected to find mangled bodies. "Um, let's just go back to the station and take your statements first."
Duang Xingye followed Bai Chuwei step by step, terrified she might abandon him. He hurried to squeeze into the back seat beside her. A cold male voice came from behind:
"Sit in the front."
Duang Feihan pulled him away and stepped up into the car first.
Duang Xingye: "...? Uncle, aren't you leaving your car?"
Duang Feihan remained expressionless, "I'll have the driver bring it. You sit in the front."
Duang Xingye grumbled inwardly, but obediently moved to the passenger seat, which drew surprised glances from the arriving officers.
At the police station, Bai Chuwei sat next to Duang Xingye, watching him chatter away, saliva flying, while she remained silent throughout.
"You mean... you were possibly controlled by someone, jumped from the rooftop, but didn't die and weren't even injured?" The policeman looked at Duang Xingye with an indescribable expression, tempted to send him to psychiatry first.
Duang Xingye replied earnestly, "That's right!"
The officer forced a laugh, cursing mentally, and turned to Bai Chuwei. His face—turned green!
The young girl was earnestly folding an origami crane out of the A4 statement form she’d been handed.
These two were definitely mentally unstable!
But to be fair, the crane was impressively lifelike, with two white wings, a pointed little beak, and a proud, upturned head.
After finishing the crane, Bai Chuwei lifted her eyelids and asked, "Are we done with the statements? If so, I'll be leaving—haven't eaten yet."
Since neither had committed a crime and might have psychological issues, the police could only let them go.
Stepping out of the station, the sky was already pitch-black, with a few scattered stars twinkling above.
Duang Feihan's black luxury car was parked at the entrance, but he was nowhere to be seen.
Bai Chuwei carried the origami crane, leaning lazily against the hood of the car, and drawled to Duang Xingye, "Give me a pen."
Duang Xingye, now utterly obedient to Bai Chuwei, quickly produced a pen and offered it with both hands.
Perhaps out of fear, his words only increased, and Duang Xingye chattered incessantly, "Weiwei, do you think I'll face any more disasters? Is my luck still bad? Is anyone else out to get me?"
Bai Chuwei ignored him, her slender fingers gripping the pen as she wrote on the crane's wing: "Come within three days."
Seeing her silent, Duang Xingye edged closer in terror, "I'm scared. I want to stay at your place..."
Bai Chuwei held the red pen and lightly tapped the crane's eye.
At that precise moment, the origami crane seemed to come alive, its two little wings fluttering in the air.
Bai Chuwei raised her palm gently, "Go."
The tiny crane flapped its wings and flew into the night.
Duang Xingye: "!!! Holy—!"
His eyes went wide, knees buckled, and he knelt before Bai Chuwei, giving a sincere, resounding kowtow to the ground. "Thank you, Father, for saving my life!"
Returning from the supermarket with bread for the two, Duang Feihan witnessed the scene: "..."
