Chapter 043: Call Me Sister

Bai Chuwei: “?” A hundred years of harmony? Lasting forever?
Bai Chuwei glanced over at Duan Feihan, who stood tall and straight as a pine outside the shop, his expression unchanged.
Tsk... He truly is a future villain—calm and collected in any situation!
The shopkeeper, his cheeks flushed with excitement, clutched the shopping list and dashed out. Standing in the center of the square with an enormous loudspeaker in hand, he shouted at the top of his lungs, “Everyone, come help prepare the medicines at once! We’ve got a huge order, a huge order!”
All the herbal merchants in the Spirit Herb Alley were stunned, and the place erupted into lively commotion.
The most crucial detail was... that black card belonged to the Duan family! The Duan family, a century-old powerful clan, could not possibly be faking it!
Bai Chuwei and Duan Feihan were treated with the utmost hospitality throughout the alley; even the apprentices eagerly served them tea.
Holding her teacup, Bai Chuwei took a sip, her gaze full of interest as she regarded the man before her. “Mr. Duan, aren’t you the least bit curious?”
Duan Feihan: “Not at all.”
He absently stroked the sandalwood prayer beads on his left wrist, the carvings almost worn away, and added in a mild tone, “It’s my money. Miss Bai can spend it however she likes.”
Duan Feihan was a seasoned businessman; how could he not notice something odd about Bai Chuwei’s shopping list?
There were nearly a hundred kinds of herbs on it, each one rare and precious—and she wanted ten kilograms of each.
The smile in Bai Chuwei’s eyes deepened. Suddenly, she set her teacup down and leaned in close to the man’s refined features, her breath brushing his cheek. She watched as Duan Feihan’s expression flickered minutely and he turned his gaze away.

“You trust me that much, Mr. Duan? Aren’t you afraid I’ll use the medicine to harm your father?”
Her breath, carrying a faint medicinal fragrance, drifted past his nose—strangely enticing. Duan Feihan’s long hand tightened unconsciously on his knee, wrinkling the smooth fabric of his suit trousers.
Each word was clear and steady: “I trust you.”
Bai Chuwei studied the calm, handsome face before her, betraying none of his thoughts, but she did notice the telltale flush creeping up his ears.
He was still as adorable as when he was a child.
The cool, aloof little bun, so awkward and proud, would act indifferent and reluctantly say, “If you want a hug, I’ll let you hug me.”
Bai Chuwei’s mind overlapped the tall, imposing man before her with the soft, lovable little bun from twenty years ago, and in an instant, the sense of distance between them diminished.
“Miss Bai?”
Bai Chuwei snapped back to herself and smiled, lips tinged red. “You don’t need to call me Miss Bai.”
A subtle ripple of emotion passed through Duan Feihan’s heart, a strange wave he couldn’t quite name. His thin lips parted, “Then I’ll call you…” Weiwei?
Before the words “Weiwei” left his mouth, Bai Chuwei chirped, “Call me ‘Big Sister.’”
That’s what the little cutie used to call her too. No matter how many times Duan Xiuqi corrected him to say “Third Sister-in-law,” he would only ever call her “Big Sister.”
Duan Feihan: “????”

A crack appeared in Duan Feihan’s ever-calm expression, and for a moment, a trace of astonishment flashed across his face.
What?
Big Sister?
He was twenty-four this year, and Bai Chuwei seemed to be the same age as Duan Xingye—no more than eighteen!
Just as Bai Chuwei and Duan Feihan’s eyes met, an apprentice hurried into the shop.
Seeing how close the two were, the apprentice grew a little embarrassed and apologized, “Sorry to interrupt your loving moment, but there’s a problem.”
Bai Chuwei’s attention was immediately drawn away. She frowned and asked, “What happened?”
The apprentice looked anxious. “It’s the ‘Spring of Four Seasons’ on your list. Only the biggest shop, Liu’s Divine Pharmacy, has it, but they refuse to sell.”
Duan Feihan frowned. “Who turns down a business deal?”
Before Bai Chuwei could speak, a cold, mocking female voice suddenly rang out: “Bai Chuwei, that medicine simply won’t be sold to you!”
Deng Man strode in with her backpack, looking at Bai Chuwei with smug satisfaction.
