Chapter 040: Skipping Class Just to Go on a Date with His Fourth Uncle?
Li Juan stood awkwardly in place, on the verge of tears. Just now, she had found it delicious… and ate every last bit!
Director Huang nearly roared, “Ms. Li, didn’t I tell you to just try one? Why did you eat all of them? Are you really that greedy? Even with medicine, you have to eat so much?”
Li Juan wanted nothing more than to disappear. “I… Director Huang, I…”
Director Huang glanced at the trash can outside the door, growing even more anxious. She had already embarrassed herself today with an upset stomach, and now the school forum was full of people laughing at her for not making it in time!
Director Huang licked her lips, steeled herself, scooped up the stack of math materials Zhou Feng had brought, and strode toward Class 9 of Grade 12, leaving all the teachers in the office wide-eyed in disbelief.
Inside Class 9, the rowdy students saw Director Huang charging in with the materials and scrambled back to their seats in a panic.
“Damn, Director Huang is getting more and more ruthless. Is she doing a surprise inspection during the break?” a boy copying homework muttered, still shaken.
“That scared me half to death,” someone else whispered.
Director Huang approached Bai Chuwei with the materials. Bai Chuwei leisurely took off her headphones, smiling brightly at Director Huang. “Is there something I can help you with?”
The entire class was stunned.
Wow, what guts!
When the discipline head comes for a surprise check, Bai Chuwei just calmly takes off her headphones?
Gao Qiaoqiao whispered gleefully, “Bai Chuwei’s phone is definitely getting confiscated!”
But Director Huang, looking at Bai Chuwei’s smiling face, blushed in embarrassment. “Um, Bai, about the candy—oh, I mean the medicine you gave me this morning… do you have any more?”
Bai Chuwei’s eyebrows arched ever so slightly. She glanced at Director Huang and instantly understood. With a faint smile, she reached into her embroidered little satchel and produced an identical porcelain bottle.
Director Huang was overjoyed. She set down the stack of materials and took the bottle with both hands, handling it as if it were a treasure. Then she pushed the materials toward Bai Chuwei.
“These are the math resources Mr. Zhou Feng compiled for you,” she said.
Bai Chuwei’s smile froze.
No need, really.
She wasn’t fond of studying.
Satisfied, Director Huang prepared to leave the classroom. A girl, unwilling to let things go, called out, “Director Huang, Bai Chuwei was just listening to music with her headphones. Why aren’t you taking hers?”
Director Huang paused, suddenly remembering, and turned, pointing sternly at several students. “You, you, and you—hand over your phones and game consoles! Don’t think I didn’t notice!”
The entire class was dumbfounded.
Seriously? Such double standards?
Gao Qiaoqiao was forced to hand over her game console, protesting, “Why didn’t you take Bai Chuwei’s?”
Bai Chuwei twirled her headphones, the corners of her red lips lifted. “I was listening to an English audio lesson.”
With that, she unplugged her headphones, and a wave of crisp London-accented English poured from her phone.
The class gaped in shock.
No way—it really was an English listening exercise?
Director Huang collected several students’ devices and left, thoroughly satisfied.
Duàn Xingye immediately sidled over, gazing at Bai Chuwei with puppy-dog eyes. “Chuwei, what did you just give Director Huang?”
Bai Chuwei packed her bag and shook her head.
Duàn Xingye looked even more pitiful. “Why can’t you give me a bottle? Is it really expensive?”
Bai Chuwei swung her empty backpack onto her shoulder and replied as she headed out, “Not expensive, just a little over a hundred thousand per bottle. If you’re not sick, it’ll just send you running to the bathroom, both ways.”
Duàn Xingye was dumbstruck. A hundred thousand per bottle isn’t expensive? Is it made of gold?
He stared blankly at her empty seat for a while… Did Chuwei just skip evening self-study to go on a date with his fourth uncle?
