Chapter 98: Going Too Far
Lin Qiu muttered under his breath and climbed into the front passenger seat as well.
Xu Bing looked a little awkward as he opened the door and got in.
The car started, and once again the cabin fell quiet.
This time, they were tasked with protecting Bai Jingjing at close range, the kind of protection that never left her side.
And Bai Jingjing had come to Wudu in secret, so no one knew when she would appear.
That, of course, was the old story. Now everyone knew Bai Jingjing had arrived in Wudu ahead of schedule.
All of this was the doing of Xu Bing, the big-mouth. The concert was tomorrow; as long as they got safely through tonight and tomorrow, their mission would be complete.
At the entrance to the Beast Control Bureau's little shop, Xu Bing's car stopped.
The door opened, and Bai Jingjing got out. Looking at the shabby little store, then at the small umbrellas and those bottles of oil displayed on the counter, she frowned deeply.
"Is this how you entertain me?"
Bai Jingjing's face darkened.
"This is the safest place in Wudu. If you don't like it, I'll take you to a five-star hotel."
Xu Bing replied with complete calm.
"Hmph!"
Bai Jingjing gave a cold snort and tossed the password case to Lin Qiu. "Hold this."
"Damn it—"
Lin Qiu flared up, about to say he wasn't her servant, but Bai Jingjing had already walked into the shop. He looked at the case in his hands, then at her retreating figure, and in the end only curled his lip and followed along.
Inside the Bureau, Bai Jingjing examined this place of hidden depths, a trace of surprise in her eyes.
She had not expected that beneath such a modest little shop would lie such a luxurious building.
"Tomorrow is the concert. I'm tired. I'm going to take a hot bath."
"Hey, you there. Bring the food to my room later."
"Oh, and open a bottle of red wine for me. The premium kind."
"And remember to let it breathe."
Bai Jingjing pointed at Lin Qiu, her lazy voice carrying a tone of command.
"Hey, my temper is not good—"
Lin Qiu had already started rolling up his sleeves, but Bai Jingjing merely glanced at him with disdain. "A second-rate bloodline, a third-rate low-level demon. And you still dare to act impressive in front of me?"
"Believe me when I say I could slap you to death, Princess."
With a cold laugh, Bai Jingjing turned lazily and walked toward a suite.
"Hey, that's my room!"
Lin Qiu grew anxious and hurried after her, but then came a sharp bang.
The door had slammed shut so suddenly that it struck him squarely on the nose.
"Ah, my nose!"
Lin Qiu clutched his nose and crouched down.
At that moment, a pair of white high heels came into view.
Bai Jingjing had opened the door again, and Lin Qiu's gaze slowly lifted, only to see her leaning languidly against the frame, looking at him with disgust. "Vulgar. Revolting."
"Bai Jingjing, you're going too far!"
Lin Qiu stood up in anger.
This woman had humiliated him again and again. Did she really think Lin Qiu would never lay a hand on a woman?
"You?"
Bai Jingjing looked him up and down, then sneered. "And you're worth bullying?"
"Wipe the blood off your nose and go prepare my meal. I'm a vegetarian, so don't send me anything with meat."
"Not even scallions, ginger, or garlic. Understand?"
"You really think I'm your servant?!"
Lin Qiu stared at her in disbelief.
"You're not qualified for that. At most, you're a messenger boy."
Bai Jingjing sneered again.
Lin Qiu was furious beyond words.
Just as he stepped forward to argue, the door slammed shut again with a heavy bang.
"My nose!"
He was caught off guard once more, his nose suffering a second blow. He clutched it again and crouched down.
"This Bai Jingjing is simply outrageous. She's come here and started putting on airs."
Xu Bing's voice echoed in Lin Qiu's mind.
"To hell with it all. Using my bathroom, sleeping in my bed, and still expecting me to bring her tea and water."
Lin Qiu stood up, grinding his teeth. With the two crimson streaks running beneath his nose, he looked not only miserable but genuinely sleazy.
Xu Bing glanced at him, then turned away in disgust and said, with her back to him, "Just for today and tomorrow, do as she says."
With that, Xu Bing left to look for the little cutie.
"Damn it."
A fierce glint flashed in Lin Qiu's eyes. In the item bag of his system interface, the icon for the crystal cannon shimmered with a strange light.
The crystal cannon used his own power as its ammunition.
With his current third-tier strength, compressing that power into a shell would give him only one shot. Afterward, his strength would be drained dry; he would either pass out or be left weak and wrecked.
This thing had been given to him by the system. He could use it twice in total.
The first shot had already blasted a sixth-tier Heavenly Mechanism to pieces, and now there was only one use left.
A free gift from the system.
If he had to exchange upgrade points for it, the points he had now would not even come close.
After all, it was a true killing weapon, capable of slaying enemies several tiers above him.
For a moment, Lin Qiu felt the urge to compress his power and blow that woman away. But after thinking it over, he still could not bring himself to do it.
He could not waste such a trump card on a moment of anger.
Besides, if he really killed Bai Jingjing, he would be making an enemy of the demon folk of the Primordial Swan Clan.
As one of the great ancient clans, the swans had profound foundations.
Though they were being watched by Tian Jiu, that was a matter between natural enemies, a hatred rooted in bloodline itself.
If Tian Jiu killed Bai Jingjing, then some ancient monster from the swan clan would surely emerge and take Tian Jiu's life in return.
And as for bloodline suppression, as cultivation grew stronger, that suppression became weaker and weaker.
Once one passed the sixth tier and reached the seventh, such suppression was no longer nearly so terrifying.
It could be said that anyone capable of cultivating to the seventh tier, regardless of race, was formidable indeed.
Even Lin Qiu, with his dragon bloodline as a dragon whale, could only suppress an opponent of equal rank. If the other side was stronger, bloodline suppression would be useless.
And once he reached the seventh tier, his bloodline could at most enhance his battle power and explosive force; it would no longer be able to suppress an enemy into submission.
This was precisely why the swan clan, despite being natural prey for foxes and wolves, could still stand among the great ancient clans.
In the end, Lin Qiu forced down the impulse in his heart and went off sourly to make the preparations.
Five minutes later, Lin Qiu wheeled a small dining cart up to the door.
Looking at the decanted red wine, a sly grin spread across his face. "So you want to act all proud? Fine. I'll serve you a mouthful of my spit."
Lin Qiu felt wonderfully at ease, because he had added a little something extra to the wine.
Even the vegetarian dishes on the cart had been seasoned with a bit of spice he had exchanged for with upgrade points from the system.
"Let's see how you get out of this one after offending this young master."
