Chapter 95: Everyone, Attention
However, there were no specific rewards listed on the wheel. Lin Qiu’s eye twitched—this was exactly the system’s style. Nothing explained, nothing given, and he couldn’t even refuse; if he did, the system would threaten to unbind and find another host. Lin Qiu was furious, but he had no choice but to endure it.
“Fine, you win!”
He closed the system panel, unwilling to look at it any longer for fear of irritating himself further.
“Bai Jingjing will arrive this afternoon. Bing, you can head to the airport now to pick her up. The mission starts from this moment.”
“Alright, I’ll leave right away!” Xu Bing’s eyes sparkled with excitement as she pulled out her phone, opened the streaming platform, and began her broadcast. “Dear viewers, I have some great news—Bai Jingjing will be holding a concert in Wudu, and I will be her personal bodyguard!”
“I’ll be right next to the diva Bai Jingjing the whole time, streaming live! Are you all excited?”
“What the hell?!”
Lin Qiu was dumbfounded, and even the cute girl was stunned.
Was this Bing born prematurely, or did something go wrong at birth? How could she be so clueless?
A bodyguard’s job is to protect closely and discreetly, yet she had broadcast it to the whole world. How could this be good?
Lin Qiu’s eyes suddenly reddened with frustration. Following someone this clueless, his future seemed bleaker than ever.
Did this foolish woman think his life was too comfortable and wanted to stir up more trouble for him?
“Everyone, I’m heading to the airport now. I’ll keep streaming as events unfold.”
“Use your lucky little hands and give the channel a follow!”
“I—”
Lin Qiu was so angry he nearly coughed up blood. He roared, “I can’t take this anymore!”
“Idiot!”
Xu Bing turned off her phone and sneered, “Retreating just because of a little storm?”
“What do you know? You’ve just put yourself in the spotlight. Isn’t that just inviting trouble?” Lin Qiu shouted.
“That’s exactly why you’re the idiot!” Xu Bing shook her head with a sigh. “I did this to draw the assassin’s attention.”
“Since I’m to protect Bai Jingjing closely, and someone wants to kill her, we’re at a disadvantage—the enemy is hidden while we’re exposed.”
“So, why not expose ourselves completely?”
“As long as I stay by Bai Jingjing’s side and keep her safe, any movement will be immediately noticeable. All we need to do is observe who shows hostility towards me—those might be the assassins.”
Lin Qiu stared at her, speechless, then shook his head in exasperation. “You’re being far too naive!”
“Do you think assassins are that stupid?”
“No matter what you do, the assassin’s target is Bai Jingjing. As long as you protect her, you’ll be the first in harm’s way.”
“What you’ve done is nothing but a blunder, a joke, a total—”
“Uh…”
“The weather is lovely today!”
Lin Qiu had been about to say “a total waste of effort,” but seeing the murderous glare Xu Bing shot him, he quickly switched topics.
Xu Bing’s face flushed with embarrassment. Lin Qiu was right—her actions hadn’t achieved anything useful.
If there was any effect, it was only to make herself look like a fool.
Would her antics really make the assassin leap out of the shadows and give her a thumbs-up, declaring, “I’m the assassin, here I am”?
“This girl…”
At the Xu residence, Xu Bancheng put down his papers. Hearing the servant’s report, his expression darkened.
Especially when the servant glanced at him with a peculiar look, making him feel both ashamed and furious.
That look seemed to say, “You’re Xu Bancheng, brilliant as a demon, yet how do you have such a brainless sister?” For the first time in his life, Xu Bancheng felt an urge to strangle Xu Bing. With a sister like her, the hard-earned respect he’d built was utterly destroyed.
“Sigh…” Xu Bancheng let out a heavy breath. “It seems she really must be married off.”
“After she’s married, if she does anything foolish, people will talk about some man’s wife instead.”
Determination flashed in his eyes as he settled Xu Bing’s marriage in his mind. He grabbed his keyboard, typing rapidly, and sent a message.
“The chairman has sent another message!”
In the Bureau, as Xu Bing and the dejected Lin Qiu were about to leave, the cute girl spoke up: “The chairman says… says…”
“Says what? Is he calling off her assignment?” Lin Qiu suddenly turned, his face lighting up with hope.
Xu Bing’s lips twitched as she glared at him fiercely.
The cute girl, however, gave Lin Qiu an apologetic look before continuing, “The chairman wants us to form a second team—all of us are to secretly protect Miss Bai Jingjing.”
“Haha!” Lin Qiu couldn’t help but laugh out loud. “Your brother Xu Bancheng is no better—his sister does something brainless, so he abuses his power, mobilizing the entire Bureau to keep her safe. Well done!”
“Lin Qiu…” Xu Bing’s face burned red. “Do you hate me that much?”
Lin Qiu’s smile faded. He said nothing, merely gave her a cold, indifferent glance, and turned to leave.
Xu Bing watched his retreating figure, understanding his resentment.
Her own aptitude, as Lin Qiu had said, was useless—absolute trash. If not for their contract and her theft of his power, Lin Qiu’s rank would have reached at least Level Five by now.
Because of her, he was still stuck at Level Three. Xu Bing suppressed her guilt, her face dark as she walked out.
After the two of them left, Ji Heng asked cautiously, “Those two… don’t get along, do they?”
“They’re a pair of bickering enemies,” the cute girl explained their situation to Ji Heng, who gave an awkward smile and said nothing more.
Even Lei Long stood silently to one side.
This Xu Bing really was dragging Lin Qiu down—no wonder he was always at odds with her.
If it were him, Lei Long thought, he would have acted long ago.
While the Bureau was enveloped in silence, Liu Changfeng’s surprised voice sounded from outside: “Did Lin Qiu and Xu Bing eat gunpowder? I greeted them and they completely ignored me!”
“Deputy Chief!” The cute girl’s eyes lit up, dimples appearing on her cheeks.
Ji Heng and Lei Long turned curiously, eager to see what kind of man could capture the heart of the adorable, almost insanely pretty, cute girl.
Liu Changfeng walked in.
Ji Heng nodded slightly. “He’s a bit over six feet tall, somewhat handsome, but I don’t see anything else remarkable.”
Lei Long nodded as well. “Slender build, weak limbs, pale face, and worst of all, he’s nearsighted—a failing grade, honestly.”
