Chapter 96: Airport Pickup
As Liu Changfeng walked in, the smile on his face became stiff. He was an evolver as well, and although his partner, the Great White Shark, wasn't particularly high-level, the shark's hearing was still formidable. In the human world, the air always contained moisture. Where there was water, sound resonated and traveled; as the beneficiary of this, Liu Changfeng naturally enjoyed such an advantage. Thus, he heard every word of Ji Heng and Lei Long's so-called self-talk, clear as day.
With a grim face, Liu Changfeng stared at the elder and the youth. According to the information provided by Cute Girl, one was a Geomancer, the other a Zombie. He had never met a Geomancer, nor seen a Zombie. He had rushed here eagerly just to broaden his horizons, but he hadn’t expected these two to immediately judge him upon meeting.
“Am I really so frail? Am I not handsome?” he thought with some grievance, but then he caught sight of Cute Girl gazing at him with infatuation, and his spine tingled instantly.
He forced a laugh. “You two are new members. On behalf of the Beast Management Bureau, I warmly welcome you to the team.”
“Now, follow me to complete your registration procedures,” Liu Changfeng finished, not daring to look at Cute Girl, and walked toward the office with his head down.
This scene left Ji Heng and Lei Long a bit surprised. This allegedly unhandsome, nearsighted fellow seemed to dislike Cute Girl!
“This guy really is blind—not just his eyes, but his heart too,” Lei Long commented candidly. Ji Heng nodded in agreement, “Blind!”
Cute Girl watched his departing back, a sweet smile in her eyes. She didn’t want much—just to watch him from afar was enough.
Her mood was excellent; she went about her tasks cheerfully.
Inside the office, Lei Long and Ji Heng sat down. Ji Heng, speaking with the wisdom of experience, said, “Young man, that girl is very beautiful. Why do you seem to fear her so much?”
Lei Long didn’t reply, simply curious as he watched Liu Changfeng busy himself.
Upon hearing this, Liu Changfeng’s movements paused briefly, then a bitter smile appeared on his face.
“I’m afraid of her—terrified, really!” There was a look of dread in his eyes as he glanced at the two increasingly curious old-timers, smiling wryly. “Cute Girl is a boy with feminine looks. My orientation is normal, but I fear if I spend too much time with her, I’ll be turned!”
“What?!” Both Lei Long and Ji Heng’s eyes widened, and they drew in a sharp breath.
“It’s truly a tragedy! Such a good-looking child, yet he’s a boy.”
Even Ji Heng, who had lived for ages, shuddered at the thought. “Suddenly, I pity you.”
Lei Long sighed as well, his gaze toward Liu Changfeng now filled with sympathy. “Yes, it’s a waste—such beauty squandered, what a shame!”
Liu Changfeng’s mouth was full of bitterness. Cute Girl was so beautiful that sometimes he wanted to abandon his principles. But whenever he thought about the dynamics between zero and one, his scalp tingled, and even his chrysanthemum felt a sting.
He shivered, not daring to dwell on it.
The office quieted. The only sound was Liu Changfeng periodically tapping away at the computer.
...
At Wudu Airport, Lin Qiu and Xu Bing exited their car and entered the arrival hall.
“Why is it me?” Lin Qiu held up a sign with “Miss Bai” written on it, his expression sour.
“You’re a man,” Xu Bing replied coolly. “Is that explanation reasonable?”
Lin Qiu was speechless and couldn’t be bothered to argue.
At a quarter past noon, a group of passengers exited the terminal. Among them, a woman stood out—five feet nine, long hair cascading over her shoulders, clad in a white women’s suit. She pushed a petite white suitcase before her, her feet in white towering heels, walking with elegance that produced crisp sounds.
As she walked, her aura drew the attention of nearby passengers. This was Bai Jingjing, a woman who adored white. Except for the black sunglasses perched on her nose, her entire ensemble was white.
White was too solemn; most people would add a black belt to provide a spatial contrast of black, white, and gray. But Bai Jingjing ignored all of this.
Her white attire was powerful, elegant, and seductive.
“Miss Bai, over here!” Lin Qiu spotted her and waved his sign, calling out.
Bai Jingjing looked over, her brows furrowing behind her sunglasses, a hint of displeasure in her eyes. She snorted coldly through her nose.
Nevertheless, she strode over and, before Lin Qiu could speak, addressed him coolly, “I’ve already spoken with your president. I requested a female bodyguard. Are you a woman?”
“Are you blind?!” Lin Qiu cursed inwardly, his first impression of Bai Jingjing plummeting.
“Miss Bai, I am Xu Bing, your personal bodyguard,” Xu Bing stepped forward, noting Lin Qiu’s dark expression. Her tone toward Bai Jingjing cooled as well.
“Oh, Xu Bing—the military enthusiast with several million followers?” Bai Jingjing slipped off her sunglasses with slender fingers, her almond eyes scrutinizing Xu Bing with curiosity.
“You flatter me. Compared to you, the superstar, I’m just entertaining myself,” Xu Bing replied.
“Exactly!” Bai Jingjing nodded in affirmation. “At least you’re self-aware. You’re just a minor internet celebrity, not worth much.”
Her words made Xu Bing’s expression even colder. Was this princess of the Swan Clan so tactless, utterly devoid of emotional intelligence?
To say such things—was she really the legendary queen of jade purity?
“Any objections?” Bai Jingjing asked, noting Xu Bing’s sudden coldness and sneering. “I am Bai Jingjing, the eldest princess of the primordial Swan Clan and a superstar in the human world. No matter which identity, I am above all.”
“You’re just a second-rate internet celebrity and a low-level bodyguard. I criticize you, and you have objections?”
Xu Bing ground her teeth in anger. As Xu Bancheng’s sister, she was used to being the one looking down on others, never the one belittled. Yet she swallowed her pride, her expression icy. “Miss Bai, it’s getting late. Please, this way.”
She gestured politely, opening a path.
Bai Jingjing put her sunglasses back on, surprise flickering in her eyes. She had mocked this woman so openly, yet she hadn’t lost her temper. This was quite different from what Xu Bancheng had described.
