Chapter 100: Let Me Borrow Some Blood to Study
Lin Qiu realized she had misunderstood him, and his face instantly broke into a fawning smile. “Enough, enough!”
He no longer turned to leave. Instead, he hurried over, his voice brimming with respect. “Miss Bai, it is my honor to serve you.”
“I’m right here. If you need anything, just say the word, and I, Lin Qiu, will make it perfect for you.”
Bai Jingjing gave a slight nod, a hint of pride flickering in her eyes.
After finishing the last sip of wine, she felt her head grow a little light. She was actually becoming somewhat drunk.
She waved lazily. “Get out. I want to rest.”
“Of course, of course!”
Lin Qiu nodded repeatedly, backing all the way to the door.
As he opened it to leave, he looked back at Bai Jingjing with a beaming smile. “If you need anything, be sure to come to me!”
He even shook the check in his hand before gently closing the door.
“That fellow lost all his backbone over a little money.”
Bai Jingjing shook her head in disdain, walked to the large bed, and flung herself onto it.
As she closed her eyes and fell asleep, the golden light on her body appeared once more.
If someone had been there with special equipment to inspect her, they would have discovered that the genes and cells in Bai Jingjing’s body were rapidly dividing.
Her bones, meridians, and blood also began to grow denser, tougher, and thicker.
Threads of golden light were born within her bloodline, only to vanish again a moment later.
In her sleep, Bai Jingjing’s aura suddenly surged.
“What?”
Outside the door, Lin Qiu was happily admiring the check when he felt the aura erupting from the room, and his expression changed at once.
He swallowed and cried out in disbelief, “Seventh rank?!”
“System, what is going on?”
“Host, your dragon essence evolved this woman’s bloodline and refined the demonic baleful energy within her body.”
“Without that baleful energy, her cultivation has advanced again.”
“If we judge by the records in Chinese mythology, this woman is no longer considered a demon, but an immortal beast.”
The system’s words darkened Lin Qiu’s face again.
He suddenly felt that the check in his hand was no longer so appealing.
One hundred thousand yuan, and in return he had evolved her bloodline and boosted her cultivation. What a loss.
Feeling the immense aura in the room fade away, Lin Qiu let out a long, mournful sigh. “A loss. Truly a loss.”
He turned away in low spirits and left.
...
In the director’s office of the Bureau, Liu Changfeng handed two identity cards to Lei Long and Ji Heng.
“From today on, you are both members of the Bureau.”
“Congratulations.”
Liu Changfeng extended his hand and shook theirs. Then the seriousness on his face disappeared, and he lightly bumped Lei Long’s shoulder with his elbow.
“Lei Long, now that we’re colleagues, may I make a small request of you?”
“What request?”
Lei Long looked at him with some curiosity.
“I’d like to borrow a little of your blood for study.”
“Blood?”
Lei Long’s fangs shot out at once, and he glared fiercely at Liu Changfeng.
“Wait, wait...”
Seeing the fangs in his mouth, Liu Changfeng shrank back and hurried away a few steps.
“I’m a researcher. I just want to study your bloodline and see whether it can be replicated, or turned into a gene serum to improve human constitution.”
Only after hearing that explanation did Lei Long’s expression ease a little, and his fangs withdrew.
“Blood is the source of a zombie’s power. Without blood, we fall into madness and become butchers.”
“So as a zombie, I have to keep replenishing myself with fresh blood in order to stay sane.”
“I see.”
Liu Changfeng nodded slightly. Blood was a zombie’s food; just like people, when you’re hungry, you need to eat.
“Blood is easy. I’ll make a call in a moment and have some delivered.”
“Can you give me a little blood now?”
“Yes.”
Lei Long agreed very readily.
Liu Changfeng was delighted. He immediately took out a blood-drawing needle and began.
But after wasting more than a dozen needles without piercing Lei Long’s skin, he nearly went mad.
“I’m a zombie. My body is impervious to blades and bullets. That won’t work.”
Lei Long shook his head slightly, a trace of lofty pride on his face.
“I don’t believe it.”
Unwilling to accept defeat, Liu Changfeng took out another blood-drawing needle.
This time, he poured the power within his body into the needle tip.
With that power reinforcing it, and with the needle as fine as it was, it pierced straight into Lei Long’s vein.
Watching the black, viscous blood flowing through the tube, Liu Changfeng smiled in satisfaction.
He drew a syringe full, sealed it carefully, and waved a hand. “I’m going back to study this.”
With that, Liu Changfeng left in a hurry, blood in hand.
He was so rushed that he did not even notice the little cutie greeting him.
“What happened to him?”
The little cutie watched his hurried retreating figure, a trace of disappointment in her eyes.
When Lei Long and Ji Heng came out and saw her, their expressions also turned strange.
“What a sin.”
Ji Heng let out a soft sigh, shook his head, and went to lie down on a sofa nearby to rest.
Lei Long, meanwhile, began wandering about the Bureau.
When he reached Bai Jingjing’s door, his eyes narrowed and his expression turned grave.
Inside the room, Bai Jingjing had already awakened. Looking at the dark demonic energy in her palm, her eyes widened.
“My demonic energy has actually become immortal power?!”
Bai Jingjing stared in disbelief.
Immortal power existed only in legend, though there were records of it even among the ancient demons. It was a force entirely different from demonic power.
It was the power born when a demon shed all its demonic energy.
Yet through all the ages of the demon clan, not one had ever managed to purge the baleful energy from its demonic power and transform it into immortal power.
And yet she had done it.
“Just what is going on?”
Bai Jingjing clenched her right hand, and the immortal power vanished.
She fell into deep thought.
Her change seemed to have begun after drinking that liquor.
“Liquor?”
Her eyes lit up, and she hurried out.
Reaching the hall, she picked up the wineglass from the table and looked at the final drop of red liquor inside, then brought it to her nose and sniffed it again.
A peculiar fragrance entered her nostrils, and even the blood in her body seemed to leap with delight.
“This liquor really is the problem.”
Bai Jingjing was now certain that the change in her had something to do with that liquor and the dishes.
As expected, after sniffing the remaining dishes, the qi and blood in her body began to boil once more.
“What exactly did Lin Qiu give me to eat? How could it bring about such miraculous changes?”
“No, I have to ask him.”
Bai Jingjing began to panic.
This immortal power was a matter of the highest importance.
