Chapter 143: An Easy Yet Difficult Training?
Xu Han left.
Wang Yuan instructed the others to continue their training, and then departed by himself.
He waited for over half an hour, making sure that Xu Han had not gone to the infirmary, before finally making his way there.
Upon seeing Wang Yuan covered in injuries, the doctor was momentarily stunned and hastily asked, "Deputy Military Leader Wang, what on earth happened to you?"
"Could it be that there was a major mission today requiring your personal intervention?"
Wang Yuan's mouth twitched. He could only nod silently and say, "Just treat me first."
The doctor sighed and remarked, "You work far too hard."
"Even as a Deputy Military Leader, you still go out on missions. What was it this time?"
"Was it the organ-trafficking syndicate over in the Annam Kingdom, or the treasure hunter group from the White Elephant Country?"
Wang Yuan gave a dry cough. "Don't ask about things you shouldn't."
The doctor hurriedly nodded. "Right, right, right. You must have been on a top-secret mission."
"You truly have it rough."
Just then, a few soldiers walked past the outside of the infirmary, excitedly discussing something that had just occurred.
"Old Zhang, you guys missed a fantastic show today!"
"What kind of show?"
"Today, that old codger, the Iron-Faced Yanluo Wang Yuan, got beaten up by a student! Hahahaha... It was so damn satisfying to watch!"
"Huh? Are you certain?"
"Of course. It was that student from yesterday, Xu Han, I think his name is."
"Today, that old codger Wang Yuan intended to get his revenge, so he planned to give Xu Han a combat lesson."
"At first, he beat the living daylights out of Xu Han. But then, guess what happened?"
"What happened next? Spit it out! You're killing me with suspense."
"Hehe, later on, somehow or another—perhaps having an epiphany from taking a beating—Xu Han was trading blows evenly with him by the afternoon, and Wang Yuan ended up getting beaten black and blue!"
"You have no idea how exhilarating it was! Hahahaha!"
"Holy crap! I actually missed a show like that?!"
The voices gradually faded into the distance.
The infirmary fell into a dead silence.
The doctor was too awkward to utter a word, terrified of provoking Wang Yuan's wrath.
With a livid expression, Wang Yuan clenched his fists and swore an oath that he would definitely get his payback tomorrow!
The doctor cast a healing spell on him.
Once his injuries were treated, Wang Yuan quickly left the room.
...
That same evening.
The group gathered together for a rare moment of leisure, inquiring about one another's training progress.
Zhu Junjie and the other two were still watching horror movies.
However, after a whole day, they had developed a significant immunity to the horror films.
At least this time, when a jump scare occurred, Zhu Junjie did not immediately faint from fright.
The one who had made a breakthrough was Jiang Yuchen.
After trying fifteen times, Jiang Yuchen had managed to barely endure the oppressive aura of tens of thousands of soldiers and walk the entire course.
One had to admit, this progress was already considered exceptionally rapid.
Resting for the night.
Training resumed the following day.
Xu Han had already developed a degree of muscle memory.
He was now able to trade blows evenly with Wang Yuan, with victories and defeats split between them.
Meanwhile, Jiang Yuchen was continuously pummeled by Wang Yuan.
However, Wang Yuan held back a lot when dealing with Jiang Yuchen, completely unlike the brutal treatment he reserved for Xu Han.
This stirred a sense of indignation deep within Xu Han.
To think this old codger showed such preferential treatment to girls!
As for Zhu Junjie and the other two, their horror movie training had finally come to an end.
They began target-shooting practice.
That's right.
Shooting targets using skills.
Within one minute, they were judged by how many targets they could hit.
The targets appeared at a blistering pace, often with two popping up simultaneously within a single second.
At the very beginning, they could only hit ten.
Hua Piaowu relied on her archery spirit puppet to achieve a slightly better score, hitting fifteen.
However, since spirit puppets were banned and only skills could be used, she only managed to hit eight.
After a day and a half of training, they had finally raised their count to sixty.
This could certainly be considered a massive improvement.
The speed at which they released their skills had become much faster, and their targets far more precise.
When training ended on the morning of the third day, the group ate lunch and waited by the dormitory entrance.
Hua Piaowu let out a yawn and impatiently asked, "Why did they suddenly gather us all together?"
The others shook their heads in unison.
Zhu Junjie frowned and said, "What perverted training method has that guy dreamed up this time?"
Even though Zhu Junjie could clearly sense his own improvement, he still held a deep aversion toward Wang Yuan, believing that the intensive training methods he employed were thoroughly unscientific and inhumane.
"Yo, you're all here?"
A figure strolled leisurely from the distance.
It was none other than Wang Yuan.
Wang Yuan swept his gaze across the group and nodded with satisfaction.
"Not bad. All these days of training did not go to waste."
"Nor was the training plan I specially tailored for you in vain."
"You must realize that such rigorous training is equivalent to half a year's workload for an ordinary soldier."
"Still, you've completed it well. You truly live up to your reputation as elite students of Dragon Country University."
His praise made everyone feel quite pleased with themselves.
At least, Zhu Junjie felt that way.
A smug smile surfaced on his face.
This guy had finally spoken a sensible sentence for once.
Wang Yuan continued, "Next, I'm going to announce one piece of good news and one piece of bad news. Which one would you like to hear first?"
Hua Piaowu immediately piped up, "The good news!"
Wang Yuan nodded and said, "The good news is that your intensive training has only one final project left this afternoon."
"This project can be described as extremely relaxing—much easier than all the training you've done over the past few days."
The group felt a collective sense of relief.
Xu Han also relaxed slightly.
Having had his nerves strung taut for so many days, he could finally unwind a little.
Yet, he found it somewhat strange.
Would Wang Yuan really be so kind?
He asked, "Instructor Wang, what is the bad news, then?"
With a smiling expression, Wang Yuan replied, "The bad news is that this training will be extremely, extremely difficult, and there is a very high probability that you will fail."
Hearing this, the group members, who had just relaxed, tensed up once more.
Hua Piaowu hastily asked, "Didn't you just say that this training project is much easier than the preceding ones?"
Wang Yuan nodded. "That's right, it is indeed easy—at least in terms of intensity, that is."
Everyone's curiosity was instantly piqued.
"Instructor Wang, what on earth is this training project?"
Su Li asked with a puzzled expression.
With a smile, Wang Yuan said, "You'll know when we get there."
"Get in the vehicle."
Two military off-road vehicles pulled up before the group.
Plagued by doubt, they boarded the vehicles one after another.
The two vehicles rapidly sped off into the distance.
Driving straight out of the military department, the cars headed toward the outskirts.
Before long, they arrived at a destination.
Gazing at the vast, heavily guarded architectural complex ahead of them, everyone was taken aback.
Inscribed upon the structure were several prominent characters:
Chuncheng Maximum Security Prison.
Upon seeing these words, Xu Han roughly guessed what this final training session entailed.
With Wang Yuan present, the guards granted direct passage.
The two vehicles drove straight into the prison grounds.
After parking, everyone got out of the cars together.
A man dressed in guard attire stood beside the vehicles, saluted, and said with a smile, "Greetings, Deputy Military Leader Wang!"
"Everything you requested has been prepared."
