Chapter 44: Want Me Dead?
Zhang Xiaofan was speechless upon hearing this. "So, did you agree to it?"
Hu Xiaotian gave an awkward smile. Looking at his expression, it seemed he hadn't just been flirting with one person. "Xiaofan, none of us know how much longer we have to live. We’re in this world, so we might as well seize the day, right?"
"How many have you hooked up with?" Zhang Xiaofan asked.
"Not many, three..."
Zhang Xiaofan sighed. Hu Xiaotian had already taken a major step in life, but what about himself? He thought of Su Qianqian and felt like weeping.
Since there was still time, Zhang Xiaofan found Murong Feng and shared his discovery about the girl with the ponytail named Li Ting from that morning.
Murong Feng nodded with a grave expression. He seemed to send a message to someone on his phone, and before long, a reply came through.
"Xiaofan, you were right. This girl named Li Ting was indeed a student at this school. She passed away later, though the information doesn't specify the cause." After reading further, Murong Feng’s pupils constricted. "The place where she lived was Hundred Flowers Village."
"Hundred Flowers Village?" Zhang Xiaofan’s spirits lifted. If this Li Ting was a resident of Hundred Flowers Village, then what Old Shen had told him wasn't just baseless rumors—the place actually existed!
"It was indeed called Hundred Flowers Village, but it seems the village was later renamed Falling Leaf Village," Murong Feng added.
"How did you get all this information?" Zhang Xiaofan asked curiously.
"My family has connections; it's quite easy to look things up," Murong Feng replied, putting his phone away. "Tomorrow is a holiday, so we can go take a look. I'll pull up the route later."
"Thanks, I appreciate it." Zhang Xiaofan patted Murong Feng on the shoulder.
Not long after returning to his seat, Bao Lei sent a message.
*Ding!*
Bao Lei: It's class time again. Today, we’re playing a special game. Here is a vote: should Su Qianqian die, or should she not?
If more than half of the students vote for Su Qianqian to die, the entire class will be freed from the game. If less than half, the game continues.
The game starts now.
The entire class was in an uproar upon reading the message, everyone staring at their phones in agitation.
"I can't believe that all we have to do is vote for Su Qianqian to die to get out of this game! This is great," a jealous girl said viciously.
"Haha, we finally don't have to die. I'm sure everyone will choose to dispose of Su Qianqian," someone else chimed in.
"Isn't that obvious? We've lost so many people in this game; now that there's finally a chance to escape, of course we have to choose to kill her."
"Hehe, everyone, hurry up and vote."
*Bang!*
Zhang Xiaofan suddenly slammed his fist onto the podium, causing it to crack instantly.
"Whoever dares to vote for Su Qianqian’s death, I will make sure they die the very next second. I... mean what I say!" Zhang Xiaofan glared at the class and shouted coldly.
He felt icy and ruthless inside. This ghost was clearly targeting him, using the person he loved most as a threat to force him to choose between ending the game or continuing it. Not only did this put him and Su Qianqian in danger, but it instantly turned him against the entire class.
The position of authority he had worked so hard to establish was now hanging by a thread. Many students were already restless; in their desperation to escape the game, they were capable of doing insane things.
"Xiaofan, I know you’re powerful and that your feelings for Su Qianqian are real, but can you really bear to watch us die?" Shen Fengxing said coldly, adjusting his glasses.
His words were venomous, effectively accusing Zhang Xiaofan of sacrificing the entire class for the sake of Su Qianqian.
As expected, the students were indignant. "Xiaofan, what do you mean by this? Do you want us to keep playing this horrific game?"
"Yeah, you’re even worse than Zhu Kai."
"This is insane. Haven't enough of us died already?"
Su Qianqian, stunned by the surrounding shouting and curses, stumbled to her feet.
Qiao Xuewei, standing beside her, said, "Qianqian, you’re a good person. Just let Zhang Xiaofan choose to kill you. If you die, our whole class will be free from the game."
Qiao Xuewei widened her eyes, putting on a look of concern. There was no trace of the hostility she had shown Su Qianqian just days before, as if those events had never happened. "Sacrificing yourself saves all of us. You love Zhang Xiaofan, right? Even though he’s cleared the game so many times, what about the future? What if he slips up and dies? So, for his sake, and for ours, you have to die..."
The boys nearby joined in. "Yeah, just die already. We can't help it if the game is targeting you."
"If it were me, I’d kill myself. People shouldn't be so selfish."
"Exactly. Su Qianqian, aren't you such a good person? You’ve helped me before; help us again."
The noisy chatter filled Zhang Xiaofan's ears, filling him with uncontrollable rage. These people took the help they received for granted—they were despicable.
Just as he was about to teach a few of them a lesson to serve as an example, Su Qianqian looked at Qiao Xuewei and said, "You want me to die?"
Qiao Xuewei, assuming Su Qianqian had agreed, said joyfully, "Yes! Just convince Zhang Xiaofan. Once you’re gone, everything will be fine, and we’ll all survive. Of course, we won't forget you; we’ll build a monument for you, and then..."
*Slap!*
Su Qianqian lashed out, slapping her across the face. "Who do you think you are, telling me I have to die!"
"You..." Qiao Xuewei clutched her cheek, looking on in disbelief.
"What 'you'? Just because I’m a nice person doesn't mean you can bully me. No way. I won't die this time, and don't you dare think you can vote me to my death," Su Qianqian declared with authority.
Zhang Xiaofan was overjoyed to see how much stronger Su Qianqian had become.
"Su Qianqian, you’re setting yourself against the whole class!" a boy nearby snarled.
*Bang!*
Lin Rou kicked him and pointed her machete at him viciously. "Chen Shuifeng, say that again and see if I don't kill you."
Chen Shuifeng didn't dare say another word. Lin Rou’s current level of violence was not the slightest bit inferior to any man’s, perhaps even exceeding it, and more frighteningly, her strength was immense.
For a moment, although many in the class still wanted Su Qianqian to die, they didn't dare move under the intimidation of Zhang Xiaofan and the others.
Zhang Xiaofan looked at the students and said, "This game is clearly a trap. I advise everyone not to believe it."
No one believed him, and the students just sneered.
"Wang Hu, this is a good opportunity. Why don't we join forces with Zhang Hua and Murong Feng to take down Zhang Xiaofan? We can't let him be so arrogant," Shen Fengxing whispered to Wang Hu, who was sitting nearby.
