[Successfully slain the Giant Ghoul. Gained 500 experience points.]
[Congratulations, your level has increased to nineteen. All attributes enhanced by 190 points.]

At the same time, two spheres of light hovered before Wang Chen. He casually tapped one to inspect it:

Inside the first sphere was a small flag.

[Ghoul Battle Banner]
[Description: Upon use, instantly summons five Silver-ranked Ghouls, each in a berserk state, to fight for you. Can be used ten times in total; after ten uses, the banner will combust. If all uses are expended, you may summon a single Gold-ranked Giant Ghoul to fight for you before the banner combusts.]

Within the other sphere was a skill book.

[Berserk Arts]
[Description: Upon learning and activating this skill, your body enters a state akin to a ghoul’s frenzy, unleashing immense combat power. This is an area-of-effect skill.]

The information flashed through Wang Chen’s mind in an instant. He stowed both items into his storage ring and dashed to Lin Lehan’s side.

At that moment, Lin Lehan was on the verge of exhaustion. She had already used up her skills while entangled with the ghouls and was now relying solely on her agility to evade them. Though the ghouls’ berserk state was gradually fading with the death of their giant leader, a number of them had managed to break free from the web thanks to the lingering fury.

A quick glance revealed about ten ghouls before Lin Lehan—some missing limbs, yet still far from harmless.

Wang Chen rushed forward, shouting, “Lin Lehan, get clear!”

Hearing his call and seeing him draw the Flame Python Blade from his storage space, Lin Lehan instantly understood and dove to the side.

Wielding the Flame Python Blade, Wang Chen swept out a crescent arc of fire, engulfing the ghouls before him.

The powerful wave of flame instantly charred the three nearest ghouls. Those behind them were knocked to the ground, flames licking at their bodies.

Terrified howls erupted one after another, scattering the once-formidable formation the ghouls had cobbled together.

As the fire wave dispersed, Wang Chen charged into the ranks, blade in hand.

Though the blade’s active skill was still on cooldown, its lethality as a weapon was undiminished.

With his level nineteen attributes, Wang Chen’s raw strength alone was enough to spell doom for these battered Silver-ranked beasts.

He weaved through their ranks, singling out isolated ghouls and decapitating them with a single stroke.

Wang Chen was careful, never allowing himself to face too many foes at once.

After a brief respite to catch her breath, Lin Lehan joined him, guarding his flank to prevent any ambushes. She refrained from slaying ghouls herself, as she was currently in the midst of a class transition; killing monsters now would only waste experience points that were better left for Wang Chen.

Before long, the pair had slaughtered every burning ghoul.

They returned to the webs and, using their earlier strategies, lured out and killed the remaining ghouls.

...

[Successfully slain Ghoul. Gained 220 experience points.]
[Congratulations, your level has increased to twenty. All attributes enhanced by 200 points.]
[You can no longer gain experience in your current state. Please proceed to the Class Transition Temple to receive your quest.]

With the prompt echoing in his mind, Wang Chen ceased his hunt. He stored his long staff in his ring and turned to Lin Lehan, saying, “That’ll do. It’s time for us to head back.”

Lin Lehan was taken aback. “You can change your class already?”

Wang Chen grinned and nodded.

Lin Lehan clicked her tongue in disbelief. “Comparing people really is infuriating. You’re so far ahead of me!”

Wang Chen replied, “I did spend half a million for a Platinum Secret Realm ticket, after all. All the beasts I fought were Silver-ranked or higher—it’s only natural I leveled up this fast.”

“When you finish your class transition, get yourself a ticket too. You’ll catch up in no time.”

Lin Lehan widened her eyes. “Hero, are you trying to comfort me?”

Wang Chen blinked. “Am I not?”

She rolled her eyes. “Please! How could I afford a ticket? That’s not comfort—it’s mockery!”

Wang Chen chuckled awkwardly. “Is that so? Well, let’s hurry out. Once we reach the portal, we’ll split the loot, and you’ll be that much closer to your dream of becoming rich.”

Thanks to the convenience of his storage ring, all the materials and equipment they’d collected while hunting were stored with Wang Chen.

Lin Lehan had no objections, and the two made for the exit.

...

“Based on my experience, these materials should fetch around a million,” Wang Chen said as they sat beneath a patch of shade, not far from the teleportation array, dividing—or rather, sharing—the spoils.

With his greater experience in the marketplace, Wang Chen took the lead in sorting the loot while Lin Lehan listened.

He picked up two pieces of equipment. “You’re in luck—both of these Silver-ranked items are compatible with you, and both have bonus skills.”

Of course, that wasn’t luck; Wang Chen had reversed the skills himself. For a comrade who’d fought back-to-back with him, he was happy to lend a hand.

“So these two are yours,” he declared, pointing to them. “But you can’t use the rest, and I’m not interested in them either. I suggest we sell them and split the profits.”

He added, “When we hunted the two Gold-ranked beasts, each one dropped equipment. These are the three items.”

With a flick of his finger, he laid the Celestial Silkworm Armor, Ghoul Battle Banner, and Berserk Arts before Lin Lehan.

“You can choose one,” he said.

Lin Lehan was stunned. “Hero, are you sure? These are all Gold-ranked!”

Wang Chen nodded. “Of course. You nearly died fighting the Celestial Silkworm Spider. Even though this realm has respawn points, dying is never pleasant. You’ve earned the right to choose.”

Lin Lehan fell silent, her gaze drifting among the three treasures.

After a long pause, she looked up earnestly at Wang Chen. “Hero, I don’t think I can really use any of these. I’d better not take one.”

Wang Chen frowned. “How could that be? Forget Berserk Arts for now—Celestial Silkworm Armor and the battle banner are both excellent for survival. One shields you from harm, the other aids you in battle. How could you not use them?”

Lin Lehan listened, silent for a long while.

Then she fixed him with a searching look. “Hero, are you trying to court me?”

“What?” Wang Chen was dumbfounded, wondering if his ears were deceiving him.

Women’s thoughts were truly unfathomable. How had the conversation taken this turn?

Seeing his bewilderment, Lin Lehan nodded. “I thought as much. Though I am clever, graceful, and understanding...”

“Get to the point!” Wang Chen snapped.

“Even if I’m all that, you’ve only just met me. There’s no reason for you to shower me with gifts,” she said. “So we can’t split things this way.”

“Why not?” Wang Chen asked.
