Chapter 75: No More Pretending—My True Vocation Revealed!
“If he doesn’t come out within half an hour, it means something has happened. I’ll retreat to the rendezvous point, and he’ll catch up from the resurrection spot.” Lin Lehan pondered silently, believing it wouldn’t come to that. After all, during the twenty minutes she had been fighting the Silkworm Spider, she realized it wasn’t as difficult to handle as she had imagined. Even she, an assassin who hadn’t undergone her second class transition, was able to stall it.
Of course, much of this was thanks to the skills Wang Chen had left behind. But it also proved that as long as the right approach was found—restricting the Silkworm Spider’s movement and vision in advance—it was like a tiger whose teeth had been pulled.
With these thoughts, Lin Lehan continued to spar with the Silkworm Spider seriously, but her mood had lightened; she no longer felt truly threatened by the creature.
Suddenly, disaster struck.
Lin Lehan dodged another lunge, just about to observe the spider’s movement and choose her next hiding spot, when she felt a tightness around her neck.
“Mmm…”
She reached up but found several thin threads wrapped around her neck—spider silk that had somehow ensnared her without her noticing. She quickly used her dagger to cut through them, but as soon as she severed one strand, more wrapped around her neck.
Lin Lehan could only keep cutting at the silk, perplexed as to how it had appeared. Anxiety crept in; if the Silkworm Spider attacked now, she wouldn’t be able to dodge in time.
So, as she sliced at the silk, she kept a close watch on the spider’s movements.
Unexpectedly, it didn’t attack her at all. Instead, it collapsed heavily onto the ground. Its massive abdomen supported its body, while its two pairs of thick legs waved in the air.
After watching for a moment, Lin Lehan noticed strands of sparkling, nearly invisible silk at the tips of its legs. These threads were wrapped around its limbs, drifting in the air or coiled on the ground, forming a vast, transparent blanket that enveloped her.
All this silk must have been secreted from the spider’s tail during their bout. It had dragged the strands across the entire battlefield.
By deliberately making the threads extremely thin and not applying any sticky fluid, the spider had managed to lay them across the arena without anyone noticing.
Lin Lehan had never spotted them before.
She realized she had already stepped into the Silkworm Spider’s deadly trap.
Though the silk was ordinary and could be cut with a blade, there was so much of it that she would be strangled before she could sever it all.
The spider’s legs swung, and suddenly Lin Lehan’s dagger-wielding wrist was yanked. She struggled desperately, but more and more threads pulled at her, an irresistible force tightening around her wrist.
It didn’t stop there; with each movement of the spider’s limbs, Lin Lehan’s legs were pulled upward. She was now like a small insect caught in a web, about to be consumed by its owner.
The silk around her neck tightened relentlessly, her breathing became labored, dizziness overtook her, and the world before her eyes began to fade.
Lin Lehan knew she was about to be strangled, but her skills were still on cooldown. Even if they became available, she doubted she could slip into the protection of the shadow under such relentless pulling.
“Well, looks like we’ll both be heading to the resurrection point. That’s not too bad—instead of waiting foolishly at the rendezvous, at least we’ll go together,” she thought wryly as her consciousness slipped away.
“Hey! Madam Spider! Bullying a young woman—what kind of skill is that? Let me have a go!”
A clear voice suddenly snapped Lin Lehan back to awareness.
She forced her eyes open and saw a figure leaping high—it was Wang Chen.
He gripped his Flame Python Blade and struck fiercely, sending a dazzling wave of fire slashing toward the Silkworm Spider.
A crack echoed—the spider’s legs on one side were severed by the blaze, and the flames set the multitude of transparent threads aflame.
In moments, the battlefield was awash with the glow of fire, like a grand rainstorm of flames.
The Silkworm Spider screeched in furious agony, writhing and attempting to retaliate against Wang Chen, who had just landed.
But its mangled limbs could no longer support its body, forcing it to rely on its shorter auxiliary legs for balance.
The silk constricting Lin Lehan’s neck suddenly loosened, and the pulling sensation elsewhere vanished.
She collapsed to her knees, supporting herself with her hands, gasping violently.
Meanwhile, Wang Chen launched into battle with the Silkworm Spider.
He swung his Forest Gale staff, its tip ringing with the sound of waves.
“Wave Dragon Strike!”
A water projectile, stretched long by its rapid speed, roared toward the spider’s wounded limb.
The Silkworm Spider shrieked in pain—the sharp attack further damaged its injured legs.
With the piercing effect of Wave Dragon Strike triggered, the water missile burrowed deep into the spider’s exposed, unarmored flesh.
Wang Chen’s staff shimmered, a light, agile glow danced.
“Power of Swiftness!”
The effect surged through him, making his body feel lighter.
With the boost from Power of Swiftness, he sparred with the Silkworm Spider, waiting for another chance to launch a Wave Dragon Strike.
Now, with its movements severely restricted, the Silkworm Spider was no match for the fully recovered Wang Chen. Despite its furious writhing and attempts to fight back, it could not land a truly effective blow.
It had no opportunity to lay a web of silk like it had done to Lin Lehan earlier.
Gradually, the spider’s body was riddled with wounds. Each strike of Wave Dragon Strike wasn’t heavy, but the spider’s carapace wasn’t especially tough, and Wang Chen targeted the already damaged areas, making each hit count.
“That’s enough. Go join your husband, Madam Spider.”
Wang Chen activated the antidote bracelet on his wrist.
A stream of green poison shot out, burrowing into the spider’s breached armor and spreading within.
Moments later, the Silkworm Spider convulsed violently, yellow-green froth spilling from its mouth.
From the wounds where its carapace had been pierced, flesh swelled and tangled, ultimately dropping off in chunks.
Wang Chen moved quickly around it, saturating the wounds with poison.
After a series of violent tremors, the Silkworm Spider collapsed, its head striking the ground and leaving a deep pit.
[Successfully killed Silkworm Spider. Experience gained: 460 points.]
[Congratulations, level has risen to eighteen! All attributes increased by 180 points.]
At the same time, a ball of light drifted toward Wang Chen. He tapped to inspect it.

The equipment’s information flashed through Wang Chen’s mind. Satisfied, he flicked his finger and stored the Silkworm Armor in his inventory.
Then he walked toward Lin Lehan.
By now, Lin Lehan was much better, having recovered from her earlier debilitated state. Though her face was still pale, her spirit had returned.
