Chapter 130: It’s Best to Speak Honestly

This would lead people to think that those who come to recruit new members are all diamond-level professionals. So, would the other members in the association be of lower ranks? What a strong and formidable group! I want to join!
However, the reality was that a professional like Ajie was already considered a mid-to-upper-level backbone member within the Luzhou Professionals Association, far from the exaggerated image others might imagine.
As for why a competent professional like him would personally go door-to-door recruiting newcomers, it all traced back to that strange old chairman.
Upon hearing Ajie say this, Wang Chen’s pupils contracted sharply.
“He actually openly admitted his rank—what could that mean?” Wang Chen’s mind raced. “Could he be trying to set a trap?”
At this point, only two possibilities lay before Wang Chen: either Ajie was lying or telling the truth.
If he was lying, then two further possibilities arose: his actual rank was either higher or lower than he claimed.
If lower, Wang Chen couldn’t understand the motive behind such bluffing—it would only raise his suspicion, benefiting no one.
If higher, naturally it would cause Wang Chen to lower his guard, but Ajie’s declared rank wasn’t low; it was diamond-level—at least ten levels above Wang Chen’s own.
Therefore, there was no reason for Ajie to deliberately understate his rank.
In other words, the assassin was telling the truth, but why would he honestly reveal his rank?
Wang Chen’s mind filled with doubts. Could it be a form of intimidation, meaning he should just accept being prey?
He pondered endlessly but couldn’t figure it out.
Ajie noticed Wang Chen suddenly fell silent and thought he must be stunned by his rank.
That made sense, since Wang Chen was a recently awakened student whose level barely reached the teens.
Since he had stunned him, the next step would be to employ the three tricks the chairman had taught.
“Heh… it’s nothing remarkable,” Ajie smiled. “You juniors will surpass us old-timers sooner or later.”
“Not at all. Seniors are always seniors. We newcomers can only use you as motivation to strive harder,” Wang Chen replied.
For a moment, Wang Chen couldn’t grasp Ajie’s purpose, so he chose to go along with the conversation.
“This student is truly humble…” Ajie smiled kindly. “By the way, what’s your name? I can’t keep calling you ‘student’ forever.”

Wang Chen was taken aback. What kind of approach was this? Did he have to ask the recruit’s identity?
Seeing Wang Chen remain silent, Ajie apologized, “Ah, you see, I should introduce myself first before asking your name. I’m Wu Jiajie.”
What? Wang Chen was completely baffled. Did an assassin really introduce himself like that?
Could it be that he was mistaken, and this man wasn’t an assassin sent by Lu Han?
But then why had this man been secretly observing him from time to time?
Filled with questions, Wang Chen decided to play along for now to figure out this man’s true intentions. “My name is Wang Chen.”
“Ah, so you’re Wang. Do you often come to this bathhouse?” Ajie asked cheerfully.
“Yes. I don’t have a private shower where I live, so bathing is a hassle,” Wang Chen explained frankly.
He treated the conversation like chatting with a taxi driver, since they might never meet again after tonight.
Ajie showed concern. “That must be inconvenient. At your age, you probably love sports and get sweaty at school but can’t shower immediately when you get home.”
Wang Chen thought for a moment. “It’s okay. I’m used to it. Besides, I don’t sweat every day—I only run five kilometers four afternoons a week.”
Good! Ajie silently applauded himself for smoothly steering the topic toward hobbies.
Feigning surprise, he said, “So you like long-distance running. I thought kids your age preferred competitive sports like basketball or soccer.”
Wang Chen smiled. “I have a classmate named Cai Kun who really enjoys basketball.”
As he said this, Wang Chen carefully watched Ajie’s expression to see if mentioning Cai Kun would provoke any reaction.
After all, this man might have been hired by Cai Kun.
But Ajie’s face showed no signs of discomfort. Instead, he remarked, “For someone so young to enjoy such a discipline-building sport, your future is limitless.”
Look at that smooth flattery—keep it up!
“No wonder your physique is so well-proportioned. Many long-distance runners share similar traits,” Ajie added.
Hmm, something about his words felt odd, Wang Chen thought quietly.
He replied, “It’s not about chasing those things. I just want to keep some exercise in my life to stay healthy.”
“Actually, I run occasionally too, but I’m older and caught up in work, so I can’t keep it up like you,” Ajie lied without hesitation.

He didn’t have a habit of running at all; this was just to create a sense of rapport with Wang Chen.
In his heart, he silently urged, “Just ask me what I do for work already! Then I can naturally introduce you to the association!”
Meanwhile, Wang Chen was unconvinced by Ajie’s words.
Come on, you run? With such dark circles under your eyes, you clearly overindulge and probably lack the energy for exercise.
So he subtly said, “If you make time, running five kilometers will soon become easy.”
Seeing Wang Chen wasn’t taking the bait, Ajie sighed inwardly but smiled outwardly. “Don’t say that, Wang. Only when you’re in school do you have so much free time.”
“Once you enter society… or maybe just when you get a girlfriend, you’ll find there’s little time left for yourself.”
Since he couldn’t push the hobby angle, he moved on to the next topic: women.
“By the way, Wang, do you have a girlfriend?” Ajie asked.
Wang Chen was surprised by the abrupt shift.
At the same time, he grew more suspicious about this man’s purpose.
Suddenly, Wang Chen froze. A strong feeling told him something was very, very wrong.
Information about this man flashed rapidly through his mind: pink nail polish, secretly observing him, complimenting his physique, asking if he had a girlfriend...
A terrifying possibility emerged:
Could this man have a preference for men?
Noticing Wang Chen’s darkening expression, Ajie suddenly had an inspiration and tentatively asked, “Or do you have a boyfriend?”
Ajie wondered if the chairman’s information was mistaken; otherwise, why would Wang Chen look so upset when asked about a girlfriend?
Hearing this, Wang Chen grew even more fearful.
“Oh no! He’s testing me! This man is definitely not normal!”
