Chapter Ninety-Two: Never Seen Before
Qian Suyin picked up the knife that had been knocked from her hand, a wild madness flashing in her eyes. She raised the sharp blade high, plunging it down with all her strength.
Bang—
“Aaah!”
Her palm was pierced, blood pouring down in torrents.
The knife fell onto the green lawn without even making a sound.
The shot had been fired by Huangpu Shenqing.
He walked forward, gun in hand, step by step, like a Shura of the night, sending terror coursing through Qian Suyin.
He tossed aside the gun, took up the nearby knife, and approached her.
She shook her head in terror, “No, no… please, no…”
Clutching her wounded hand, she retreated, trembling, tears streaming down her face in fear.
Huangpu Shenqing stabbed at her viciously, his expression cruel and cold.
The ground was stained in patches of crimson, the body before him mutilated, corpses scattered everywhere. Red filled his eyes, driving him into a frenzy.
Warm blood splattered onto Shangguan Renran’s face. Her pupils dilated, every pore contracting, her body shuddering. Her eyes, strangely, turned blue, and her face was etched with fear.
Shangguan Renran fainted, convinced she would never forget such a horrifying scene for the rest of her life.
She had never imagined that Mr. Huangpu, always gentle and accommodating, could ever be so furious and ruthless.
Ye Zuo, after dealing with everyone else, saw that the crazed man was rampaging out of control.
Gong Yi and Ouyang Mufeng rushed in as well. Although they had seen Huangpu Shenqing like this before, they were still shocked anew.
Xia Wanqing and Ouyang Muya fainted outright from fright.
…
…
…
When Shangguan Renran awoke, she was in her own room.
Ye Xin had returned from the hospital to recuperate and, seeing her awake, happily called Ye Zuo in.
“Miss, are you feeling unwell anywhere?”
“Ye Zuo, what I saw—was it real?” she asked softly, her face pale as death, only those faint blue eyes shining with a trace of brightness.
Ye Zuo lowered his head, unsure how to respond.
“You both go. I want to be alone for a while.”
Ye Zuo and Ye Xin quietly left, closing the door behind them.
It was as if the door to Shangguan Renran’s heart had closed as well.
A tear slipped from the corner of her eye, vanishing as quickly as it appeared, leaving only a damp pillow behind.
I am afraid of you now, Mr. Huangpu.
…
…
General's Mansion, Country G
“How is my second brother?”
“I’ve already given the patient a sedative. He’s calmed down for now, but when the violent factor in his body starts acting up, it’s beyond his control. I recommend hospitalization for observation and further medical research.”
“Thank you, doctor.”
“Thank you.”
“It’s nothing.”
Ouyang Mufeng looked toward the room where Huangpu Shenqing lay, worry etched on his face. “Has big brother returned yet?”
“How could it be resolved so quickly? A murder at the general’s birthday banquet—no matter what, it’s a mess that won’t be easily sorted out.”
“I’ll go help big brother deal with it. You find a few more people—we must keep an eye on Huangpu.”
“I understand.”
Ouyang Mufeng arranged for Lin Yan’s personal guards to secure the surroundings tightly.
Huangpu Shenqing woke up around two in the afternoon.
“Second brother, how are you feeling?”
“Where’s Ranran?”
“Second brother, first tell me, do you have a headache? Do you need me to call—”
“I asked you, where’s Ranran?”
Huangpu Shenqing grabbed Ouyang Mufeng’s collar, anger still burning in his eyes, though he controlled it well.
“Second sister-in-law has returned to the country. Don’t worry about her. Right now, the main thing is you, second brother. You need to—”
“I want to go back. I know my own body best.”
Ouyang Mufeng stepped forward to block him. “Know what? Yesterday you couldn’t even control yourself. How can I let you go back?”
“Move aside.”
“I can’t possibly let you go back.”
Huangpu Shenqing grew angry. “I’ll say it again—move aside.”
“I said I can’t let you go—”
Before Ouyang Mufeng could finish, Huangpu Shenqing shoved him aside forcefully, catching him off guard.
He chased after him, only to see Huangpu Shenqing entangled with Lin Yan’s guards, fighting them ruthlessly. He knew these men couldn’t hold him back.
“Stop! Let him go!”
…
When Lin Yan and Gong Yi returned that evening and learned Huangpu Shenqing had already left, they weren’t surprised.
They had already guessed as much.
Even so, unease lingered in their hearts, so Lin Yan sent them back as well, promising to come find them after handling domestic affairs.
Ouyang Mufeng and Gong Yi arrived in City A at eight in the evening. They assumed Huangpu Shenqing would seek out Shangguan Renran, but to their surprise, he was at a bar, drinking alone.
The hotel manager even called Ouyang Mufeng about it.
Receiving the news, they hurried to Mist Night.
“Second brother!”
“Huangpu!”
Entering, they saw Huangpu Shenqing drinking alone.
Huangpu Shenqing drank as if he could numb himself this way.
How he longed to see her!
Yet he was afraid to see her.
She must be afraid of him now. He had worked so hard to win his little girl’s affection, and now…
“Second brother, stop drinking.”
Ouyang Mufeng snatched the bottle from in front of him, Gong Yi grabbed the glass from his hand.
“Huangpu, this isn’t the way to solve things. You’re running away.”
Huangpu Shenqing’s eyes were bloodshot, the burning liquor scorching his throat and stomach.
“Then tell me, how should I solve it?”
His little girl was afraid of him!
How was he supposed to fix that?
Gong Yi tossed aside the glass and sat down, silent for a moment.
Ouyang Mufeng pushed all the bottles into the trash, then sat down once the table was clear.
Gong Yi lit a cigarette and exhaled a cloud of smoke. “Huangpu, give her some time. She’ll come around.”
“How long? A month? Two? A year?”
Huangpu Shenqing thought in despair—why does fate always toy with him?
How could he bear so long without seeing his little girl?
His heart felt as if it were being torn apart.
His mind was filled with thoughts of her.
“Second brother, second sister-in-law was just frightened, she’ll be fine. Think about it, she’s seen all kinds of things, only the methods differ. Give her some time, she’ll get through it.”
Ouyang Mufeng tried to comfort him, though in truth, he wasn’t sure what would become of Shangguan Renran.
Because even they had been terrified at the time.
