Chapter 136: This, Too, Was Specifically Instructed by the Master
The man gently kissed the corner of the young woman’s mouth.
"Be good, I have some business to attend to."
Sadness flickered in Shangguan Renran’s blue eyes. She buried herself in his chest, wrapping her arms tightly around his neck. "Can’t I know what it is?"
"Be good. It’s just some urgent matters that need handling. I’ll be back as soon as I’m done. You stay in the hospital and focus on your recovery, and then let Mo Jiu and Mo Shi take you back to the country. How about that?"
The man’s gentle voice drifted into her ear, tickling and warm.
Shangguan Renran shook her head without hesitation. "No. Where are you going to handle these matters? Can I go with you? I won’t cause you any trouble."
Joy stirred in the man’s heart; this was the first time she had taken the initiative to want to stay by his side, yet he had to refuse her.
Huangpu Shenqing’s voice was hoarse, brimming with affection. "But... it’s not a suitable place for you, Ranran. Be good. I’ll be back in a month."
"So you’re leaving tomorrow, then? Can’t you stay a few more days? What about one day? Can’t you stay even one day?"
"Be good. I promise I’ll come back as soon as I’ve taken care of things, all right?"
"No, no, I want to be with you."
To Huangpu Shenqing, the girl’s sweet, soft voice sounded more beautiful than any melody. He whispered into her ear, "Be good. I’ll take you next time. It’s very late now; go to sleep."
Shangguan Renran was deeply reluctant, fearing he would leave while she slept. She hugged his neck tighter, her tone soft and coquettish. "I don’t want to. What if you leave in a little while?"
"Be good. I’m not leaving right now. Go to sleep."
Suspecting that he might slip away once she drifted off, Shangguan Renran forced her eyes to stay open, her arms locked tightly around him, terrified that he might suddenly vanish. However, by four in the morning, she finally succumbed to exhaustion and fell asleep.
Hearing the girl’s steady breathing beside him, a faint smile tugged at the corners of Huangpu Shenqing’s lips. He gently reached over to cover her eyes and kissed them affectionately. With soft, practiced movements, he left the hospital room.
In the adjacent room, he showered and changed his clothes. It was already five in the morning, and outside, everything remained shrouded in darkness. The entire hospital was silent and still.
As Huangpu Shenqing opened the door, Gong Yi and the others were waiting in the hallway.
"Come in."
The group crowded into the room, all there for the same purpose. Huangpu Shenqing sat in a single armchair and instructed Mo Lin, "Go and investigate the incident regarding Renran’s kidnapping."
"Yes," Mo Lin replied.
Everyone understood; the man finally wanted to know what had happened behind the scenes. Before, he had been afraid to find out, but now, he had no choice. He then turned to Mo Yi. "In an hour, arrange a private jet to take those people away. Keep the ophthalmology specialists behind."
"Why is that? Is there something wrong with the Second Sister-in-law’s eyes?" Ouyang Mufeng voiced the group’s confusion.
"I need them to research a new potion to conceal her eye color."
Relieved, the others realized that was all it was.
"Yes, I will have it arranged immediately," Mo Yi said.
The man continued, "Once Renran wakes up, have Ye Xin tell her that I’ve gone to G-Country to handle business. Tell her to undergo a full check-up at the hospital, and if everything is fine, Mo Jiu and Mo Shi will take her back to the country."
"Yes," Mo Jiu and Mo Shi replied.
As the sky began to brighten, everything proceeded in an orderly fashion. Above the Gemyre Hospital, planes took off one after another, flying to all corners of the world, a sight that left many dizzy.
Before Shangguan Renran even opened her eyes, she reached out habitually to the space beside her, only to touch emptiness.
She sat up immediately. "Ye Xin? Ye Xin?"
Ye Xin pushed the door open and entered. "What is it, Miss?"
"Where is he? Has he left?"
"Miss, Mr. Huangpu has already left. He went to G-Country to handle some business. He’ll be back in a month, so please don’t worry."
Shangguan Renran patted her cheeks and sighed. "He left that quickly?" He must have left while she was asleep. How frustrating—how could she have slept so soundly?
Sigh. Sigh. Sigh.
Sighing heavily, she went to the hospital bathroom to wash up and get dressed. When she came out, Ye Xin had already prepared porridge, and Mo Jiu and Mo Shi were standing nearby.
"Have you eaten? Shall we eat together?"
"We have already eaten, Miss Shangguan," Mo Jiu said.
Shangguan Renran nodded and began eating the porridge with Ye Xin. Suddenly remembering something, she looked up from the table. "I’m all better now. Can I be discharged?"
"Miss Shangguan, you still need to undergo a comprehensive examination. If there are no issues, you can be discharged," Mo Shi replied.
"Ah? Do I really need another check-up?"
"Yes, this was specifically ordered by the Master. Also, after the examination, you might need to wait another day or so; the specialists are currently developing a potion for you."
"Alright, I understand. But as for the potion, I don't think it's necessary, right?"
Mo Jiu, showing remarkable perceptiveness, added, "This was also specifically ordered by the Master."
"Alright then."
Shangguan Renran underwent another detailed head-to-toe examination.
Lin Yan had already returned to G-Country; it was said he left with Mr. Huangpu. Gong Yi, Ouyang Mufeng, and the others accompanied her throughout the entire process, which made her feel quite embarrassed.
"You don't need to keep me company. If you have things to do, please go ahead. I’m feeling very well."
"It’s no trouble at all, Second Sister-in-law. We don’t have anything urgent to attend to right now. We aren’t like the Second Brother, who is busy all day long."
"Is that so? Indeed, he is quite busy. I wonder what he has to be so busy with for an entire month."
Ouyang Mufeng smiled, secretly thinking that his big mouth really didn't know how to speak.
Gong Yi emerged with the medical safety report. "How is it? Is there anything wrong with the Second Sister-in-law?"
Ye Xin, Mo Jiu, and the others looked at him expectantly.
"Physically, there are no issues," Gong Yi said, "but the doctors suggest drawing a bit more blood for a blood test."
"Ah? Is that necessary?"
The gaze of everyone in the room shifted toward her, their eyes twinkling with anticipation.
"Fine... alright."
Shangguan Renran went downstairs to have some blood drawn for the test. Ouyang Mufeng lamented to himself that it was fortunate his Second Brother had left; otherwise, this examination would never have gone so smoothly.
By the time everything was finished, it was already three in the afternoon. Only then did Shangguan Renran realize that her phone and some of her personal belongings were not with her.
"Ye Xin, are my phone and bag still at the Skikowei family castle?"
Ye Xin was caught off guard. Ouyang Mufeng eagerly jumped in to answer first, "Yes, that’s right. They are still there and haven’t been brought over yet. I... I’ll have Mo Jiu and the others send someone to get them."
In truth, the bag was hidden in the room next to the one Huangpu Shenqing had stayed in. How could his Second Brother ever let his woman’s personal belongings remain at someone else’s home? He had sent someone to retrieve them the very next day.
But did he dare say that? Currently, the headlines on phones and television were all about his Second Brother. If the Second Sister-in-law found out... Ouyang Mufeng shivered. He was terrified his Second Brother would skin him alive.
Mo Jiu suddenly said in a loud, solemn voice, "Yes, I will go to the Skikowei family castle in person immediately to retrieve all of Miss Shangguan’s belongings."
Shangguan Renran was startled by Mo Jiu’s formal expression, but she recovered in a second. "Alright, then I’ll trouble you to make the trip."
Three black lines streaked across Gong Yi’s forehead. Is this really someone from headquarters? Is this the sharp, capable, cold-blooded operative we know? Are they incapable of lying, or what?
