Chapter Forty-Four: It Will Be All Right
"Huangpu?" When Gong Yi and Ouyang Mufeng arrived with their men, this was the scene that greeted them. People lay sprawled across the ground, blood everywhere, and the furious man drove recklessly, aiming straight for Huangpu Qingyin.
"Are you crazy, Huangpu?"
"Second Brother?"
A loud crash.
Huangpu Qingyin was struck on the head and lost consciousness.
After receiving the location of Shangguan Miaomiao from Mo Yi, Huangpu Shenqing drove off.
"Third… Third Brother, what do we do?"
"I'll follow Huangpu. You call an ambulance. As for the others, handle them quietly—leave no trace. Let it look like a traffic accident."
"Alright, I understand."
—
"Shangguan Renran, you never imagined, did you? That one day you’d fall into my hands. Tsk tsk, look at you now, half dead and barely breathing."
Not far from the city outskirts, in an abandoned warehouse, Huangpu Qingyin had assigned her two men, and conveniently dumped Shangguan Renran here as well.
Shangguan Renran was unconscious, her face mottled with bruises, the skin at her mouth torn, her white dress slashed and stained with wounds. Her exposed calves bore scars of varying depths, the dress soaked in blood and mud, its original color now unrecognizable.
"Go fetch some water and wake her up."
"But there might not be any nearby—"
"I said go find it."
"Yes, ma’am."
One of the bodyguards went out to search for water. It was his departure that allowed Huangpu Shenqing to quickly locate them in the vicinity and rush toward the abandoned warehouse.
"Did you bring the water?"
—
Shangguan Miaomiao looked up at the sound of footsteps, only to find, "Young Master Huangpu—" She barely finished before she was kicked aside. The other bodyguard rushed forward, but was dispatched in moments, rendered immobile.
Huangpu Shenqing gazed at the lifeless girl on the ground, his eyes reddening. Just like when he was a child, he could only watch helplessly as she was taken away.
He gently picked her up, his hands stained with indistinguishable blood, moving quickly yet careful not to jostle the person in his arms.
"Huangpu?" Gong Yi had just parked when he saw Huangpu Shenqing carrying Shangguan Renran out.
A trail of blood marked the ground, and the girl in his arms remained unconscious, her body marred with wounds that would wrench anyone’s heart.
Huangpu Shenqing held her like a machine, emotionless, but only he knew how his heart ached, ready to burst.
He dared not use any force, afraid of hurting the one in his arms.
They drove to the nearest hospital.
By the time Ye Zuo arrived with his men, they were already too late.
—
"This is our station’s reporter. According to reports, at around eleven this morning, a serious car accident occurred near the outskirts of Datao City. One of the vehicles was heavily damaged, its body crushed. Only one injured person was found at the scene. Sources say she may be the eldest daughter of the Huangpu family, Huangpu Qingyin..."
Aunt Zhang was about to turn off the television; such accidents happened every day, always leaving someone anxious.
But her gaze involuntarily swept over the screen—wasn’t that badly damaged car a Bentley? The license plate looked just like the one her young lady drove.
And the abandoned phone nearby—wasn’t that the one her young lady took when she left?
The remote fell from Aunt Zhang’s hand in fright. "Butler Yang, something’s happened—Miss was in a car accident!"
"How could Miss get into a car accident?" Shangguan Yang dropped his cleaning tools instantly.
"What happened? How…?"
"The TV, the TV…" Aunt Zhang’s voice trembled, tears streaming uncontrollably.
"Quick, call now!"
Shangguan Yang pulled out his phone to call Shangguan Xing.
—
Aunt Zhang also called Ye Xi.
"Master, something’s happened!"
"Madam, something’s happened!"
...
Inside the intensive care unit, Shangguan Renran had been in for two hours.
During that time, Huangpu Shenqing sat outside, motionless, like a statue.
Ye Zuo sat beside him, his face unreadable.
Ye Xin crouched in a corner, crying quietly, afraid to weep openly lest she add to others’ worries.
Gong Yi and Ouyang Mufeng sat together in silence.
Ouyang Muya and Xia Wanqing arrived as well—they had learned of it from the trending news.
Most importantly, Shangguan Renran’s phone had been found at the scene, so they recognized her immediately.
Xia Wanqing stared at the operating room, tears streaming down her face. She covered her mouth, her body collapsing to the floor.
"Mu… Muya… do you think… Ranran… will be alright? Just yesterday… she asked me to find a bodyguard… How did things turn out like this today? Ah, wuu wuu wuu..."
She clung to Muya, sobbing softly, not wanting her cries to burden the others.
Shangguan Xing, having received Shangguan Yang’s call, hurried to the hospital. Seeing everyone outside the ward, he felt as if he’d aged several years in an instant.
"Uncle Shangguan," Xia Wanqing greeted him, her tears flowing uncontrollably.
"My good child… how is Ranran?" Shangguan Xing’s voice trembled, his tone full of remorse.
"Uncle, please don’t worry too much. Ranran hasn’t come out yet, but I believe she’ll be alright," Ouyang Muya said to comfort him.
"She’ll be alright, she’ll be alright… she must be alright." As if repeating it could calm his heart and bring him solace.
