Chapter 117: The Resolution—The Ultimate Insult (Part I)

Shilan High School!
“Why are there so many people at the school entrance today?” Chen Wenwen asked curiously from inside the car. Ordinarily, although vehicles came and went before Shilan High School, everything was orderly. Apart from the rarest of exceptional circumstances, there had never been a traffic jam.
Three years ago, after the Black Prince Group had acquired Shilan High School, the entrance had been widened to twice its former size. Since then, there had been no record of congestion at all. Today was not even a special occasion, so how had things become so crowded that cars could not get through?
“Just drop me off here.” Chen Wenwen opened the door and stepped out. Normally, the driver would take her all the way onto school grounds, but judging by the situation, waiting for the increasingly dense crowd at the gate to disperse would be less sensible than simply walking in.
“All right.” The driver nodded and obediently backed away. He was not worried that there might be any danger, assuming that Shilan High School was holding some sort of event. Though curious, his work came first; he still had to return and pick up his employer.
After all, if there were any real danger, how could there be so many people gathered at the entrance? They would have scattered long ago. There could not possibly be so many fools in the world willing to risk their lives just to watch the excitement.
Chen Wenwen walked forward, step by step, until she reached the edge of the crowd. She patted the shoulder of the person standing nearest the outside.
“Excuse me, what happened in there?” she asked softly.
The person who turned around was another student wearing a Shilan High School uniform, someone Chen Wenwen did not know. To the girl’s surprise, however, he recognized her at once.
“Chen Wenwen is here!”
He did not answer her. Instead, the unfamiliar student patted the shoulder of the person beside him and said, “Where? Where? Where?”
“She’s here. It’s really her.”
It seemed that everyone had been waiting for the girl to arrive. One after another, they turned around, and soon everyone recognized the girl whose photograph they had just seen.
“Quick, quick, quick! Make way for her. Maybe she can talk some sense into him.”
“Heh heh. Talk sense into him? I think you just want to watch the show.”
“What, you don’t?”
Amid the bustling crowd, a few voices rose above the rest. Their motives differed, but everyone instinctively parted to create a path for Chen Wenwen, wide enough for her to walk through.
What was going on?

An ominous feeling rose in Chen Wenwen’s heart. Whether intentionally or not, however, the path people had opened allowed her to see only the crowd on the other side. She still could not see what they had gathered around.
Everyone silently watched Chen Wenwen. Even several members of the Literature Club whom she knew well remained silent. Su Xiaoqiang, the so-called “Little Goddess,” who had always been at odds with her, seemed to want to say something, but after gritting her teeth, she ultimately said nothing.
The ominous feeling grew stronger, but Chen Wenwen had no way back.
She could not hesitate any longer.
The girl clenched her teeth and continued forward, one step at a time. After each step, she had to pause. Her heart trembled as though she were walking along the edge of a blade, and she could not stop cursing herself for not making the driver wait for her. If she had, she could have escaped by now.
But every road eventually came to an end. And so Chen Wenwen saw the scene that had drawn the entire crowd’s attention—
“Zhao Menghua? You... how did you all end up like this?”
“Ah, the final prop has finally arrived.” Lu Mingfei patted Zhao Menghua, Xu Yanyan, and Xu Mianmian, whom he had twisted into a single tangled mass.
The three of them were now completely exposed, pressed together in the closest possible embrace, with the distance between them reduced to a negative number. The two obese twin brothers were positioned on either side, with Zhao Menghua in the middle. It was an indescribably joyful arrangement.
The security guards who had originally intended to intervene now lay scattered nearby, sleeping soundly.
“So? How does it feel now?” Lu Mingfei completely ignored Chen Wenwen. Just as he had said before, in his eyes the girl was nothing more than a prop—a prop meant to make Zhao Menghua feel even more humiliated.
It was just as Zhao Menghua had once regarded Lu Mingfei as a prop: someone to run errands, someone he could trample at will, someone whose position he could use to elevate his own so that he could pursue Chen Wenwen.
“Heh heh heh heh heh heh!”
Laughing grotesquely, Lu Mingfei slapped Zhao Menghua’s face with the sole of his shoe, making sure that any unidentified liquid would not get onto his hands.
“Are you experiencing a whole new kind of climax? Is it a hundred times more intense than the pleasure you felt when you spread rumors about me behind my back, ruined my reputation, and stepped on me to raise yourself up?”
“Mm! Mm!” Zhao Menghua’s mouth was completely stuffed with some monstrous mass, leaving him unable to speak. He could only glare at Lu Mingfei with eyes blazing with fury.
Lu Mingfei paid no attention to his gaze. Nor did he spare a glance for Chen Wenwen, who had been struck so hard by the scene that she stood frozen in place. Instead, he took a camcorder from a nearby stand and rapidly skimmed through the footage already recorded on it.
“Ah, as expected, I’m no professional cameraman. Even though I studied a little, the footage still isn’t ideal. But it’ll do.” Although Lu Mingfei’s abilities had been growing rapidly in every area, a single night of intensive study could not instantly turn him into a master cinematographer. Still, that was enough. For this recording, all he needed was a clear, steady image. That alone would make it explosive.

“Do you know what this is?” Lu Mingfei held the camcorder in front of Zhao Menghua’s eyes and played the footage at eight times its normal speed.
“Lu Mingfei?” Finally recovering from her shock, Chen Wenwen gathered her courage and said, “You did all this? How... how did you become like this?”
“Hey, President.” Lu Mingfei greeted her with a smile. “I’m just getting revenge for what they did before. And putting on a little performance as a mad bull.”
At that moment, Lu Mingfei’s eyes were clear. There was no trace of his earlier frenzy. Yet that clarity made him even more frightening. It meant that what he had done was not the senseless act of someone who had lost control, but a deliberate act of madness carried out by someone fully aware of the consequences.
“You...” For some reason, the moment their eyes met, Chen Wenwen instinctively took half a step back. In Lu Mingfei’s eyes, she could no longer see any of the warmth that had once been there. All that remained was icy coldness.
Although he still addressed her as President, Lu Mingfei’s gaze held not the slightest ripple. It was as though, in his eyes, Chen Wenwen was no different from a weed growing beside the road.
Something seemed to lodge itself in Chen Wenwen’s throat. She had wanted to say something, but suddenly she could not utter a word.
“Don’t worry, don’t worry. I know what you want to say.” Lu Mingfei laughed loudly and patted her on the shoulder. Then he turned toward Zhao Menghua, raised the camcorder, and said, “Did you see that clearly? I’m going to make tens of thousands of copies of this video and distribute them online for everyone to enjoy.”
“Oh, right. Something’s still missing.”
With swift efficiency, Lu Mingfei separated the three men.
Though they had been freed, none of them could move with all their hands and feet dislocated. The moment Zhao Menghua’s mouth was free, however, he let out a heart-rending roar.
“Lu Mingfei! Lu Mingfei, you bastard! I’ll kill you! I’ll kill you! I’ll kill you!”
“Exactly. Just like that!”
Lu Mingfei filmed the face twisted into a demonic mask and nodded in satisfaction. At that moment, the crowd on the opposite side split apart as well. A group of men in black trench coats and sunglasses entered with perfectly synchronized steps and identical strides.
“Mr. Lu Mingfei.” Qilan, who led them, spoke in an indifferent tone. Hidden behind his sunglasses, no one could tell that his eyes were always closed. “Your leisure time is over. The leader is summoning you.”
At a gesture from Qilan, a burly man in a military uniform stepped forward and draped a black overcoat around Lu Mingfei’s shoulders.
“Looking” with satisfaction at Lu Mingfei’s appearance, Qilan nodded.
“Mr. Mingfei, since you have made your decision, do not regret it. After all, formal members of Heaven have never been given the option of leaving.”
“Of course.” The roar of a black helicopter filled the air. Its enormous rotors whipped up a gale, and a rope ladder was thrown down from above. Lu Mingfei leaped nearly thirty feet into the air and caught the lower end of the ladder perfectly.
“I will never regret the decision I have made today!”
“All right, everyone. Farewell!” Lu Mingfei waved, as if bidding farewell to his former life. “Perhaps we will meet again someday—but I hope never to see any of you again...”
