Plate Eighty-Three: The Heavenly Emperor Breaks Through

“A? N?en? ???. R?A?N??E?N `O?R?G? You can end the selection early if you have free time, but no one else can go,” Cain replied.
“Why?! I want to go,” Little Dragon, who was more familiar with Cain, protested unhappily, and Green Sprout joined in.
Cain glared: “Children are not allowed to skip classes. Tom and Poplar, you’ve just been admitted to the seminary, you have a lot of basics to catch up on. His Majesty has arranged tutors for you. Junshi, the same goes for you, don’t skip classes. As for gambling, next time just play at the official betting site. Don’t go to private ones. This time, His Majesty happened to meet their sovereign, spoke up for you, and the winnings will be automatically credited.”
Mentioning gambling made Cain grit his teeth. They had barely arrived at the temple and already stirred up trouble, daring to place big bets at a private site with no real strength. Even a civilization at Level Seven would feel the pain of losing funds worth more than a hundred interstellar cities. He remembered how his subordinates, recording the whole process, went to collect the money, and the manager’s face—dark as ink, as if mourning a child. If not for Emperor Anthony’s intervention and the transparency of the star network broadcast, it would have been difficult to transfer the prize into the Faith Bank’s third-party public account.
Even if the other side did not default, wouldn’t they just ensure the bettors met an untimely death, then pretend to do charity and donate the prize to some institution, and most of it would ultimately return to their pockets?
Without absolute strength, mere public opinion is not enough; shameless people still dare to overturn the sky.
As the temple’s archbishop, Anthony’s usual retreat was equivalent to the most open, top-level secret realm. The energy was so dense it was almost liquid, with multiple fundamental laws flowing and coexisting within. When the Heavenly Emperor entered, it was like a sponge immersed in water—all pores in his body opened to devour the energy. The bottomless pit finally met its end.
Because Cain was guarding, Sang Sang did not approach the Heavenly Emperor, instead staying at the edge to absorb energy and comprehend the laws.
Those who passed the selection early could begin choosing a small world aligned with their main law for advanced study. Among all the candidates, Sang Sang was the only one majoring in time and space. The time-space small world wouldn’t disappear, so she decided to wait until the Heavenly Emperor finished his retreat, since she would have a guardian knight accompanying her, and planned to go with him.
The devoured star core had taken shape.
Sang Sang opened her eyes based on her senses, but saw no abnormal phenomena. She mused: It can suppress anomalies without affecting advancement. What’s the principle behind the law?
No, not entirely absent.
The law of time and space was condensing, and Sang Sang noticed that the secret realm’s time-space was like a plucked string, vibrating ever so slightly—imperceptible to those not sensitive.
Cain, however, was clearly among the rare sensitive ones.
“So it really is time and space.”
Sang Sang abruptly raised her head, studying Cain’s eyes closely.

Cain lowered his gaze and met Sang Sang’s eyes: “No need to be nervous. Time and space is good, but it’s not suitable for me. And his time-space is still a seedling; no one knows if it will grow into a tree.”
Sang Sang could only trust him, casting her gaze upon the Heavenly Emperor with a smile: “He’s destined to become the strongest man in the galaxy.”
“Then in the end, he’ll have to defeat the Lord of the Divine Court,” Cain replied, then fell silent for a moment, before adding, “You’re not a vain person who likes to show off. Knowing the uniqueness of the law of time and space, you still exposed your fusion—was it to protect the Heavenly Emperor?”
Sang Sang denied it: “Time-space themed faith icons fetch a higher price.”
“Hopefully, you two will maintain this purity in the future,” Cain didn’t press further. The Saintess was a public figure; with her standing at the forefront, even if the Heavenly Emperor exhibited time-space fluctuations, it would go unnoticed. And anyone with designs on him would have to consider the temple’s protection of the Saintess.
Cain stayed until the Heavenly Emperor’s time-space star core was formed and began consolidating his cultivation. Upon leaving, he forgot to take Sang Sang, leaving her behind in the secret realm.
As soon as he left, Sang Sang scattered numerous space spheres engraved with condensed laws throughout the realm, absorbing and storing energy. She herself approached the Heavenly Emperor, receiving the shared cultivation experience.
‘Sang Sang, come quickly! Is my star core beautiful?’ As soon as the Heavenly Emperor sensed Sang Sang’s consciousness approaching, he eagerly drew her into his mind sea.
‘It’s just a star core, nothing to fuss about. Being strong and formidable is more important.’
‘But the book says women care more about appearances.’
‘Books are dead, people are alive. Stop reading nonsense and focus on proper textbooks. Don’t forget you failed the basic knowledge course.’
‘It’s fine. Little Gold said the Knight Academy has an elite class—you only need to excel in practical combat, and theory is waived.’
Sang Sang felt deeply unfair. Why did she have to study theory even if she skipped culture classes? Whenever she found a bit of free time, Little Gold made her do Saintess school exams—one year’s work covered decades of main courses, and the printed test papers could crush a person.
‘Little Gold is just looking out for you. A Saintess can’t lack cultural foundation. I’m different—a guardian knight only needs strength; everything else can be ignored.’
Sang Sang ignored him, surveying the Heavenly Emperor’s mind sea. The law stars once hung above, but now hid underwater. The mind sea was pouring with rain, external energy converting to star power and filling the sea. Deep in the ocean, where the core of mental power was once concealed, there was now a stone, countless streams of star power flowing into it, causing it to slowly grow.
No, in a certain sense, there were two. The visible one was black, capable of absorbing all light—the devouring core. The other, invisible, was hidden within the center of the devouring core.
‘The two cores can switch positions freely.’

In the next moment, the devouring core shrank, replaced by the time-space core. Its material resembled transparent gel rather than stone, its color shifting with the environment, and the devouring core faintly visible within.
‘Want to touch it? Star power is qualitatively different from mental power.’
Under the Heavenly Emperor’s coaxing, Sang Sang’s consciousness entered the core, but quickly withdrew, exiting his mind sea entirely. Seeing him open his eyes and laugh heartily, she couldn’t resist kicking him.
“Try any tricks again and I’ll kill you.”
The core was a law forged from the soul. Entering it meant being enveloped by the Heavenly Emperor’s soul, able to sense his thoughts clearly. Unlike soul fusion during dual cultivation, this perception couldn’t be blocked—completely passive. The Heavenly Emperor deliberately thought all sorts of nonsense; if his thoughts weren’t so childish and free of desire, Sang Sang’s kick would have landed three inches below his navel.
The Heavenly Emperor hugged his knees, curling into a ball and rolling away: “I’ll roll off myself.”
Sang Sang was amused, but didn’t pursue him further. Such a rare environment, with energy denser and purer than even the divine tomb, saved her much refining and purification effort—wasting it would be a crime.
The Heavenly Emperor sneakily rolled back from afar, cautiously approaching. When he saw Sang Sang wasn’t about to erupt, he quickly came closer, watching her craft containers for storing energy, and also sat cross-legged, absorbing energy while making his own containers.
Soon after, the Heavenly Emperor tossed Sang Sang a fist-sized spherical container: “Try mine.”
“Devouring and time-space?” Sang Sang examined it—the space within was extremely stable. Adding energy and matter would naturally generate a small world without other laws. Its area was vast, enough to hold the entire Redleaf Interstellar City. Devouring absorbed energy more aggressively than condensation, and could automatically purify it.
The Heavenly Emperor was full of pride: “Isn’t it useful? From now on, I’ll handle all your containers. My level is higher than yours.”
“If I want, I could surpass you in an instant,” Sang Sang retorted, unimpressed. If she weren’t waiting for the time-space small world, she could have broken through to star level right after leaving the divine tomb.
“Fine, fine.” The Heavenly Emperor wore an expression that only he could tolerate her pride. Seeing the dangerous glint in Sang Sang’s eyes, he hurried back to his original seat, continuing to make containers: “I’ll make a few more, so you’ll have energy stored for your breakthrough.”
