Chapter 105: Hidden Truths

The sunset painted the sky like a masterpiece over the thousand-willows forest. Shen Yu sat silently atop the carriage in front of the main gate, the candy figure in his hand long since melted away. He did not hurry back inside but seemed to be waiting for something. In the distance, the fish-scale clouds in the sky gradually dispersed, and a stooped old servant appeared before the estate.
The old servant approached with a smile and said, “Young Master Shen, why do you not enter the mansion?”
Leaning casually on the carriage railing, Shen Yu replied faintly, “There are some questions I want to ask you.”
The old servant folded his sleeves quietly, awaiting what was to come.
“I am Shen Yu,” Shen Yu stated.
Master Zhao smiled, “That is naturally something I know.”
“You don’t know,” Shen Yu shook his head. “I am Shen Yu of the Dao Sect; Yang Liu is now my junior sister.”
The old servant, who had kept his head slightly bowed, suddenly contracted his pupils at the mention of the Dao Sect. His body froze, then forced a smile, saying, “To be the senior brother of the young lady, you are truly an honored guest of the Yang family.”
Shen Yu gazed into the distance and said casually, “In ancient times, it is said that since the chaos of heaven and earth, humans, demons, and monsters have lived on this continent.”
The old servant fell silent, a puzzled expression on his face. “Young Master Shen, what do you mean?”
Turning his head to look at him, Shen Yu said calmly, “I just want to ask, what kind of demon are you?”
As the words fell, the temperature around them seemed to plunge suddenly, a chilling wind howling.
The old servant kept his head lowered, but after a long moment, he finally raised it.
“Young Master Shen, perhaps you are tired, speaking in riddles no one understands.”
The once hoarse, aged voice whispered continuously in Shen Yu’s ear.
Suddenly, a dazzling light erupted before the Yang family mansion’s gates.
The old servant stared fixedly at Shen Yu, his eyes glowing with an eerie orange-red light.
Shen Yu remained motionless, as if entranced.
“Sleep for a while. All of this is but a dream. When you awaken, you will forget everything.”
Then, a seductive feminine voice gently whispered into Shen Yu’s ear, soft and deep like a mountain spring.
The two simply stared silently at each other, appearing to outsiders as if frozen in a perfect still frame.
But unfortunately, the brief moment of transcendence was swiftly shattered by a casual, dismissive tone.
“Such lowly seductive tricks, daring to disturb my Dao heart?”
Shen Yu shook his head and asked.

The old servant’s eyes widened in horror.
Before he could react, his body was suddenly torn backward, crashing into the wall behind him.
He lowered his head silently, crimson blood flowing from his right shoulder.
It turned out the other had drawn a sword.
A blood-red wooden sword pierced through his right shoulder, pinning his entire body firmly against the screen wall in front of the main gate.
Pain contorted the old servant’s face, but more than that, shock filled his eyes.
He had not sensed the opponent’s move at all, but he was certain Shen Yu’s aura and cultivation were not particularly strong.
In normal combat, he might not have been sure to lose, but certainly not so quickly.
The speed was unimaginable—utterly abnormal.
Shen Yu’s lips moved slightly, releasing sword energy.
The old servant let out a mournful cry, his body glowing as his form began to shift.
His once stooped figure grew slender; white hair turned black, flowing like a waterfall; and his skin became increasingly pale and radiant.
In the end, before Shen Yu stood a bewitching woman with a faint spring-like flush.
What was more intriguing were the three tails behind her.
Shen Yu said calmly, “So you are a fox spirit.”
“My fox clan’s transformation technique is flawless. How did you see through it?” the enchanting woman said, indignantly.
“By your aura,” Shen Yu replied. “Earlier, when you released spiritual energy inside the square pavilion of the Nangong family, though disguised, there were flaws. Moreover... my perception of demonic energy is more sensitive than most.”
The woman, who had been disguised as the old servant, gave a bitter smile and looked up at the sky, her expression hopeless.
Dao Sect disciples have always harbored the greatest hatred toward demons; many of their spells were created specifically to harm them, causing tremendous damage.
She felt utterly without hope.
“I never intended to harm them,” the fox spirit whispered, holding onto the last shred of hope.
“I know, otherwise you would have died just now,” Shen Yu said. “But I want to know why.”
She replied calmly, “Is it necessary?”
Shen Yu nodded. “Of course.”
This trip was meant to ensure the safety of the Yang family; to him, both inside and outside the household were one and the same.
The woman’s face turned pale as she said softly, “When Yang Yuanhao was young, he once saved my life—I came to repay that kindness.”
Shen Yu said nothing.

The woman smiled bitterly and said, “Demons are so despicable in your eyes; I knew you people wouldn’t believe me. If that’s the case, there is no need for more words.”
Shen Yu lowered his right hand.
The wooden sword vanished, and the sword energy lingering within the fox spirit dissipated.
The alluring woman with beautiful peach blossom eyes covered her right shoulder and asked, puzzled, “What do you mean?”
Shen Yu seemed to recall something and quietly asked, “Do you really think humans and demons can truly fall in love?”
A highly cultivated fox spirit who had faithfully accompanied the Yang family for over twenty years, even sacrificing her most prized beauty—Shen Yu understood what this implied.
But this question seemed to strike her deeply; a turbulent demonic aura spread and dissipated.
Her eyes turned cold and sharp as she said word by word, “I warn you, do not reveal this to anyone. Even if you come from the Dao Sect, I will use all my strength to kill you.”
Shen Yu neither accepted nor rejected the threat but asked curiously, “What are you afraid of?”
“Afraid?” The fox spirit sneered. “Isn’t it because of you hypocritical humans? Despicable, shameless, selfish. Ten years ago, how did the hundred thousand people of Fengdu City brutally treat a demon woman? In the end, they all died by their own hands, and a peerless strong one was destroyed alive. And yet, they blame demon women for bringing calamity upon the country. Aren’t these disgraceful acts all your doing?”
Shen Yu remained silent.
Because fifty years ago, an event occurred.
He had heard of it in the Dao Sect.
Or rather, the entire realm knew of the tragedy.
In Fengdu City of Central Plains, over a hundred thousand people and cultivators perished overnight—none survived.
Countless vengeful spirits and wandering souls roamed the city, once prosperous but instantly transformed into a ghost town.
The perpetrator of this great massacre was a cultivator of the Dao, one whose mastery of Dao techniques was unparalleled.
Many speculated this unnamed man came from the Dao Sect, but there was no evidence, and the Dao Sect never acknowledged it.
As long as the Dao Sect denied it, no one dared openly accuse them.
The woman asked, “Do you know why he did it?”
Shen Yu replied calmly, “Fifty years ago, the city’s people captured a pregnant demon woman and subjected her to unspeakable humiliation, stripping her clothes, cutting open her belly to take her child, and finally hanging mother and daughter on the city wall for three days and nights.”
The fox spirit’s eyes filled with tears for some reason as she said, “Was it wrong to kill them?”
Shen Yu closed his eyes slightly, speechless.
